| 3 days 4 hours ago | Typical ND schedule |
None of those teams are considered national title contenders. It's either middling BCS teams, BCS teams with question marks or the service academies. And playing ASU in Arlington amounts to a home game for ND. That road schedule isn't difficult once you get past Michigan. Those other road environments are pretty tame. |

just to spite OSU. Ohio State plays a little brother every year in Ohio, Akron or Toledo. I doubt their rivalry could ever approach the levels of UM-MSU. There's just not enough hate built up there. And I'd hate to say this, but Sparty fields better teams than Cincinnati. If you look at the players Sparty had when they beat us, you'll find more than a few NFL caliber players on those teams. I don't think you could say the same for Cincy. |

You could be the Anthony Bourdain of Bolivia. |
| 6 days 20 hours ago | IU and ND played regularly until the late 50s |
And I think IU was either the first or second team ND played on NBC when they signed that deal back in the 90s and crushed them. Maybe IU didn't want to take the beating every year. Also, I don't know what MSU and Purdue's contract with ND is. It's possible that those contracts didn't have as convenient of an exit clause. And as much as people don't want to hear it, ND doesn't need Michigan to gain a national stage. They're on national TV regardless of who they play. There's just no getting rid of them unfortunately. |
| 6 days 20 hours ago | Just playing devil's advocate |
That is all. Like I said, ND handled the move in a dickish way. In my four years at UM in the 90s, the series was on hiatus for a couple of those years. So going on hiatus for a few years is not something new with us. |
| 6 days 21 hours ago | To be fair |
Their rivalry with Sparty has more history. They're played almost twice as many games against them so it makes sense to keep that game. And Purdue is an in-state rival, so they can't drop that game. But I don't appreciate the dick move to "serve" Brandon right before the game last year. I do love that this move forced us to show that we're just as much the national program as ND and can play anyone, anywhere and don't need them for our non-conference schedule. |

I don't know how anyone can post a pic of POTUS or anyone else in government and lead with "Without getting political..." Not impossible, but improbable. |

| 1 week 3 days ago | Guys getting paid in the 80's is not hearsay |
Also, Frieder is the one that let Ed Martin come into the lockerroom after games and hooked him up with tickets. It is proven fact that Ed Martin was involved with the program before Fisher took over. Fisher set is own firing in motion when he knew that Ed Martin tried to pay for Louis Bullock's apartment and intervened without reporting the violation to his superior (the AD). You can't defend Fisher if he's complicit in the whole thing. Michigan merchandise did not take a hit due to the scandal. That Nike deal we signed in 1994 was due largely to the Fab Five's success. We were the first Nike school. And Michigan merchandise, including basketball jerseys, have always been some of the best selling merchandise. |
| 1 week 3 days ago | Ed paid players who went to other schools |
When George Raveling coached Iowa in the 80s, he regularly hooked up Ed Martin with tix. He helped out kids who went to State, but none of their players got busted rolling off the side of the road in a new SUV. |
| 1 week 3 days ago | Michigan fans suffered, athletic department did fine |
The school profitted greatly by the Fab Five's success. They can return whatever tournament money they want because they made so much money in apparel. With no Webber, this team doesn't go to back to back Final Fours and the school doesn't profit as much off of those maize jerseys I still see people in their 20's and 30's wearing. Webber had nothing to do with the guys who were getting paid in the 80s. He had nothing to do with Traylor, Bullock and Mo Taylor taking money. He also didn't force the school to hire Brian Ellerbee or let their athletic facilities get bypassed by MSU and OSU. I understand people have tunnel vision when it comes to Webber, but he was just one of many people who comitted errors. |
| 1 week 3 days ago | I'll go one further |
At least Jerod Ward has a decent senior year. But Willie Mitchell? OMG that dude was a huge bust. Funny thing, he used to always come up to our floor in South Quad to see some girls. He had a friend with him all the time. That friend? Tyrone Butterfield. Possibly the worst performing Mr. Basketball in Michigan history and the worst player to wear the #1 jersey since A.C. together. Some things just can't be made up. |
| 1 week 3 days ago | It was crazy |
My freshman year (95-96), it was a who's who out there. The basketball players, football players and guys from the black fraternities were out there with the groupies. That's when I had an upperclassmen point to the girls out there with them and said, "Those women don't care about you unless you have a number on your back, Greek letter on your chest or a car." Somehow that pitch didn't get me to pledge. |

| 1 week 4 days ago | Frieder and Fisher deserved more blame |
Everyone knew about Ed Martin back in the 80s. Frieder hooked him up with free tix and access to the players in the locker room after games and Fisher didn't stop it when he took charge. Fish knew Martin was paying for apartments for Bullock and a couple other guys on the team and made sure the money was paid back, but he didn't even tell his bosses about this. That's a blatant ignoring of the rules. While we were stuck dealing with Ellerbee, Fisher was taking SDSU to the tournament. How about Frieder issue an apology for allowing Martin access to a bunch of players that would flame out in the first weekend of the tournament each year and Fisher apologize for playing the good wholesome coach role, while keeping major violations a secret. Then follow up with Tom Goss apologizing for giving us a de facto death penalty by hiring Brian Ellerbee. |
| 1 week 4 days ago | It was Maceo Baston |
We made a basket to cut the lead down to two or three and he called a timeout, so we could set the defense. |
| 1 week 4 days ago | Outside of ND |
They have a pretty easy schedule until we play them. But they're not surviving the stretch of Michigan, @Nebraska, @NW Now I see why Sparty is complaining about being in the new East division. If it ain't easy, it's not worth having. |
| 1 week 4 days ago | I never cared for him |
I never saw that dude on campus without his nose stuck up in the air. He was an arrogant douchebag. People can talk about what the Fab Five didn't accomplish, but that second "Fab Five" was extremely talented. They played like they didn't care. Maybe getting paid by Martin made those guys lazy and took away their motivation. Those years always felt like a period of wasted potential. |
| 1 week 4 days ago | He definitely didin't need the money |
His family would've been considered upper-middle class, but him and his family was still fine financially. He was just greedy and as you say, dumb. If you were on campus at that time, you may remember that a lot of the basketball players were flaunting big SUVs and nice jewelry. Even Ron Oliver(!) was over at South Quad regularly in a mysterious new ride. |
| 1 week 4 days ago | I still wish he had broadcasted the 2006 game |
It's still one of the best games in any sport I've seen and was worthy of an announcer his caliber. |
| 1 week 4 days ago | If we beat ND, our chances of a #1-#2 matchup is possible |
Something about the UTL game has me nervous, but our schedule sets up very well for us to be undefeated going into November. After the ND game, Sparty and Nebraska are the only teams that could match us talent-wise before The Game. I think we'd have at least a 30% chance of it happening if we're both undefeated after September. |
| 1 week 4 days ago | Didn't UW beat Stanford last year? |
I thought I remembered that one Saturday night. Husky stadium is still one of the five loudest stadiums in college football, so you don't want to go in there with an iffy QB situation (Wisky, Sparty). If they get past that game, they'll still blow a game, maybe at SDSU. BSU is programmed to blow a game late in the season to end their championship game hopes. |

Not without latex gloves. |
| 1 week 5 days ago | I just want an explanation |
No apology needed. I want to know how he was given $600K while playing basketball at Michigan and no one could tell. I want to know if this was a story of his dad capitalizing off of a son's fame, a la Cam Newton. I never fully believed the full Ed Martin story. He was a crook, so that is enough for me to not trust every word coming out his mouth. Too bad he kicked it right before the perjury trial. All I know is the $38K Webber said he took is a far cry from the alleged $280K amount. |
