Do you consider paying players (admittedly against ncaa rules, but definitely not illegal and arguably not even immoral/unethical) to be equivalent to sexual harassment and covering up sexual violence by players?? Because that’s a pretty ridiculous position to take.

Sorry Detroit, my mistake for not putting this in terms simple enough for you to understand.  Try to follow without inserting a false equivalence ?.   You’re entitled to your opinion about paying players (I’m for it) but to suggest the Universities shouldn’t take action when Coaches are paying players is asinine. It’s also asinine to assert that you shouldn’t take action unless a violation is as bad or worse than what Miles has done.

*You* are the one drawing false equivalencies. Your argument seems to be ‘if they punish Les for sexually harassing college girls and covering up sexual assault by his players, then Self should totally get in trouble for paying kids’. If you actually think that you’re even dumber than you appear to be (which, quite honestly is very, very dumb).

That’s like saying - if they’re going to punish so and so for murder, his coworkwr should totally get the book thrown at him for Jaywalking. It’s laughable, it’s idiotic and apparently, it’s the best argument you can come up with. You should maybe sit this one out while the adults talk, champ. That or maybe try to think before you spout off this nonsense

RichRod was fired by Arizona for sexual harassment, and yet for some reason a lot of posters here are still convinced he's a good guy.  We're lucky he flamed out on the field before that bombshell could go off.  The compartmentalization about RichRod is astounding.

Ding, ding, ding. This is the point - there were no known character issues at the time of RichRod’s hiring. He was an abject failure as a coach, but even his issue at Arizona was a consensual relationship with an adult in the program - not the same as hitting on students or covering up assaults/rape by his players.

Everyone makes mistakes. I am sure you do things that would make certain people think you are a "scumbag". The best we can do is pray for him and hope that he is Saved. I will pray for you.

Even with all the angst of the post-Carr era, we sure dodged a bullet by not hiring this guy. Maybe Lloyd knew what he was doing when he used every trick in the book to torpedo Miles coming here.

may have mentioned on another thread around this, UM was ready to hire Miles over Carr's objections, according to Bacon's Three and Out.  Miles, Sue Coleman, Martin were on a call, all agreed to Miles being coach, except...Pres Coleman wanted to meet in person and Miles couldn't until after the NC game. Then the RR candidacy came in during that gap.

Who do you think was Bacon's source for that account?

I assumed, reading it, that it was probably someone in the hire-Miles camp and thus was ultimately Miles's version of the call. And of the three, Miles is the one least qualified to determine how ready UM was to hire him. To me Coleman's "we need to meet first" meant she was having some doubts. And whether it was intentional or not, the effect was to give Carr more time to come up with alternatives.

There's never been a doubt in my mind that Martin knew what he was doing when he got on the boat. I've worked as an admin asst. and I've been the middleman in the "if X calls you won't be able to reach me" game. But surely if they had known up front they didn't want Miles, things would never have gotten to that point?

If they went from "Lloyd's just pissed about something that happened 15 years ago" to "hmm, maybe this is something we don't want here," maybe because people other than Carr started to chime in...well, given what the issues were I can imagine Coleman getting there first.

According to Chinese legend, when Sai Weng lost one of his prized horses, his neighbor expressed sorrow for his loss. But Sai Weng was unconcerned. He said, “Who knows if it may be a good thing for me?” Surprisingly, the lost horse returned home with another horse. As the neighbor congratulated him, Sai Weng said, “Who knows if it may be a bad thing for me?” As it turned out, his son broke his leg when he rode on the new horse. This seemed like a misfortune, until the army arrived at the village to recruit all able-bodied men to fight in the war. Because of the son’s injury, he wasn’t recruited, which ultimately could have spared him from death.

After reading all of that, my only question is, what does he have against brunettes?

Seriously though, this may be the least surprising set of sexual harassment allegations ever.  I, mean, the dude's brand was basically being a troglodyte.  Just very thankful he didn't end up back here.

So last night we're watching a TV show and my wife didn't recognize a character:

Wife: Who is that?  Is she new?

Me: No, it's 'so and so', the same person from last week!

Wife: Are you sure?  Her hair is different...

Me:  Really?  Her hair is different?  Because women don't change style and colors monthly?

I'm still wondering how a woman actually said that...

The women lovely, blonde and fit,

But on his lap they should not sit.

So Miles to go, and then he'll quit,

Replaced by one less full of...

Hopefully, this era when powerful sports coaches, doctors, athletes, etc, view the women at their universities as some perverse dating or whatever pool is coming to an end. I think it is, but Miles is probably not going to be the last one of these we hear about.

I was out of the loop on what was happening until now. Wow, what a sleaze.

The article is worded strangely, like it was losing the 2012 championship which put him over the edge? No way that was the start of it - you don't get to "a.m. vs p.m. girls" without a whole lotta practice objectifying and disrespecting women...

This is sordid.

I remember back when Miles was fired by LSU, Harbaugh was asked about having Miles back as an honorary captain or something. Although he offered some platitudes about how much respect he has for Miles, he seemed uncomfortable with the subject and his tone made him seem dismissive of the idea ("those are all good suggestions" were his exact words, if I remember correctly).

I think people who have coached or played at Michigan know what Miles is about. There are good reasons why he's never been welcomed back in any real capacity, and now the rest of the world knows what they are.

I always thought - and still largely do - that that was about the Moeller incident.  Don't forget that Harbaugh has been around the university since he was, what, 8 or 9 years old?  He had near unrestricted access to coaches and staff that whole time.  He knows where a lot of skeletons are buried around Schembechler Hall going back more than 40 years.

I'm sure he's not surprised by any of these revelations...

There's also this (keep in mind that David Brandon was a teammate of Miles and is probably more "in the know" than anyone about the program's secrets, irrespective of what we may think of him)...

...and this (from JUB's MGoBlog Q&A about the book).

I kept out more than a few salacious details because they were not sufficiently sourced or they were not relevant to the main questions, and felt like cheap shots.

Sleeze...yeah, and feel bad for the women who have to live with negative emotional ramifications. He seem grossly sneaky trying to get girls 40 years younger than him into his car and then discussing his condo aka "never used lair" if you will.

But I disagree with the article that his failure at Kansas would have been predictable. I thought he would be more .500 personally or at least a couple more than 3 wins in 2 years...Les give him that.

And yeah, overall it's cool we didn't hire him, but we did hire RichRod and he didn't have anything female related happen while he was here (that I can remember at least, tell me if wrong). RichRod waited til he got to a slimier place at Arizona to become more brazen. So in an alternative universe it may be that Les needed Michigan to keep him straight really. Michigan would have likely stopped anything crazy like this earlier instead of letting it go on. At least I hope so...I get we are not a perfect school, just seem like classier staff than LSU would have gone a long way.
