Lewan's on field antics

http://t.co/KVS5Qz3B51 Says it all. Unbelievable how he would go and pull a Gholston like this. How is this being a leader? One thing to lose and another to go ahead and do the same crap that we as a fan base have wholly condemned. Edit: yeah he's a competitor and a kid and football is tough etc. bottom line is that an MSU player did the same stuff 2 years back and this board (rightfully) called it dirty. Lewan did the same exact stuff today, so how is it not dirty?

Who cares - He has not provided leadership when it counted. He plays with no mean streak. No rhythm. He and Kalis are flat footed and can't slide or move and can't drive anyone forward. He played this way last year if you watch old video... Stands up. No leverage. No leadership during times of adversity. Just a lot of talk during camp and no communication on the field during games. Not a top 15. 2nd or 3rd round. If lucky. Best.

Was that Isaiah Lewis he Gholstoned? Blech. Makes it tough to root for the kid. Thank God basketball season is here.

I may be wrong for saying this, but I actually enjoyed Lewan giving it back to them.  Everyone talks about toughness and bringing a swagger back.  I may not have liked the penalty but like someone has already eluded too these are thugs with a chip on their shoulders.  The best way to get even is to just dominate them; however, it is difficult to dominate someone when your O-line mates are not heloing the cause.  This was purely out of frustration and for that I can deal with it.  His NFL stock is solid and will still be a 1st rounder he has been the only lineman to play consistent all season.

There is not now, and never will be, any justification for twisting a guy's facemask (and head/neck) while he is on the ground.

None. End of story.

Are we serioulsy letting a troll post OPs like this when we claim to have such a tight handle on threads? C'mon mods.

One of the few plays I saw live yesterday was in the first half when he took a 15-yard personal foul for extracurricular activity. State knows he is a hothead and they exploited it. Personally he has been a major disappointment this season from a leadership standpoint.

The way the OL has played this year, and with the way he has hurt the team in spots, I have to seriously quesiton his leadership.  Also, Lewan is the anti-Jake Long.  Even comparing the two is an insult to Jake.

Perspective:

Lewan is 10 days older than Gholston, meaning he was a full two years older than Gholston when he pulled an identical stunt to the one Gholston pulled in 2011. So any "he's young and made a mistake" rationale better have been granted to Gholston--perhaps more so--two years ago.

Suspend him for the next game. Period.

As far as anything else connected to yesterday/this rivalry... time to call it like it is. The tide has turned. MSU has the better program, evidence by their vastly superior preparation for yesterday's game (how scary is it to think we had a bye week before this one?!?) This has become an annual narrative. Could it change with the influx of Michigan recruiting? Possibly, but I'm not holding my breath as long as the current staff is in command.

Even though Lewan made a stupid mistake, I didn't see Sparty rush well over his side, or Schofield's for that matter. It cost us 15 yds on a punt, not as dumb as Kalis' PF that killed a 2nd half drive at PSU.

We can't respond to DL twists or LB blitzes. We've tried how many different interior line combos? It's coaching and technique, not one guy making one silly foul.

His face mask thing wasnt anything like what they did to Denard. I liked how Lewan wanted to brawl out there & try to get the team fired up.

That was some punk bitch stuff.  He acted like a little baby that couldn't get it done between the whistles so he had to resort to that cheap shit to feel like a man.  Just makes him look really small.

I thought Lewan was pissed from what happened the play before his "flare up". He was leading an option/sweep play toward the outside with Gardner trailing right behind him. It appeared that an MSU defender attempted to lunge into his knee with his helmet, which he did and broke up the play... not sure if it was an intentional attempt to injure Taylor, but he may have felt that way. I guess you don't really know unless you are out there.

Sorry if my comment about youth struck a nerve with folks who then took up the "unacceptable" flag and then focused on the perceived problem with the age of the player.  First of all, I'm too old to see any difference between 18 and 20, and it's beside the point for other reasons.  Second, in no way is it comparable to Ghoulston's attempt to inflict serious injury after a play was over.  Finally, I judge not because I quite simply have no idea what it's like to be out there.... I do know it makes no sense to expect our players to be ultra tough but as civilized as Thurston Howell.  like another poster said, time to move on.

but I can't say that I approve of his antics but I am sure that done of his moves were retaliatory. If like to think that UM is above it but maybe he was setting a tone with the perceived thugs across the LOS. Cheapshot for cheapshot. Eye for an eye.

You people can be such drama queens. The guy lost his senior season to an in-state rival he has only beaten once in his career at Michigan. I'd be pissed off too! All you self-righteous bastards who are going to knock him for his leadership and example - are you seriously going to judge his leadership based on a couple plays where emotions got the best of him? Why don't you come out of your mother's basement and show us how it's done .

Didn't the Big Ten players vote Lewan as the most dirty player in the big ten? Man. Some of you people are delusional. What's holding him back is all the penalties he commits. He did yesterday exactly what we screamed about Ghloston doing in 2011.

two of those plays occur on the field multiple times in every game every saturday and sunday. its delusional to think otherwise.

What doesnt happen every game is what he pulled on the guy in the pile and that is inexcusable. I hated seeing lewan stoop to that.

but about him being a dirty player.... I dont think he is a DIRTY player i think he lets his emotions get the better of him. and that is his first blatant cheap shot penalty i can think of. You dont get to be a first round pick by playing patty cake and picking daisies. You dont "Like" your opponents you respect them. Until that play i thought lewan did respect his opponents always. He'll have to prove himself but to condemn this kid as dirty awful player who you hate is rude also

for Lewan's actions.  Hoke should sit him for a game.  He has hurt the team from day one, and he continues because he doesn't get disciplined for it.  Not acceptible for a Michigan player.  Period.

Win or lose, one reason I root for Michigan is because of a perceived moral superiority. This kind of behavior is thuggish, and it was one of the reasons why I've despised Michigan State in the past.

Unacceptable. I hope Hoke suspends him for a game to send a message to the team.

What lewan did is terrible. I cannot believe how many people have cried for him to be thrown off the team and other over-reactions on this board. Are you all so much better than this kid? What he did was unacceptable and disrespectful like they both said. Should he be suspended a half a game? a full game? probably but who are you to decide and heap insults upon a player who loves the maize and blue more than you ever will? He decided to NOT be a first round pick and i see people saying he doesnt have pride in the school? I disagree whole-heartedly. Id like to know how many of the people criticizing Lewan so harshly actually have played a sport against a MAJOR rival, then tell me what they think. This does not excuse lewan, he deserves punishment. But he takes pride in his every snap and made a mistake. Next time you make a mistake i hope its posted online and everyone cries for you to be fired from your job and tells you how awful you are non stop. just like the people crying for lewans head are doing to him. Dont excuse him, but for gods sake kick him off the team? I dont know thats just not me

ps- what he did was not an intent to injure at all let alone seriously injure. he shook the guys head, people get facemasked way worse in game and are just fine. he was mad the guy wouldnt get off gardner(still inexcusable though)

pps- are you kidding with the Hoke doesnt crack down comments? he basically kicked stonum of the team for a DUI, plenty of players do way worse and CONTINUE there careers. Hoke does just fine with cracking down.
