He was way off on his shot last night. If I had to speculate, I think Beilein decided he'd rather roll with Robinson on D on the wing vs getting lit up in the post. Overall I think Robinson had more to contribute on offense last night and that was the difference

Very happy for our guys to have such a great run in the tournament and in the second half of the season. Really hard to have any complaints at this point. Felt like the magic was back from our runs a few years ago. Very fun basketball

Good for Wichita, but bad move for the conference. Wichita's success is entirely tied to their coach and they had a long tournament drought before he got there (They had one appearance in 2006 but hadn't been to the dance since 1988). If Marshall leaves, you're stuck with a rudderless basketball program in the middle of nowhere Kansas in a location that is not conveniently located geographically with the rest of your conference.

Michigan State is the most obvious answer. It was nice to finally shut down the "Why can't we be more like Izzo" talk at least for a little while. There were some real low points in the season, and the @Illinois game is the lowest. They completely broke us and that was when our D was playing its worst.
Besides the obvious fun of winning, it's nice to FINALLY hush up some of the Beilein haters. I know that as soon as we lose in the tournament, they'll be back, but honestly it's just fun to have every fan in the same boat at least for a little while. These people are such a fun-suck to this board which really makes the season not as fun sometimes (I always have the option of not reading, of course). I wonder if every fan base is as self-loathing as Michigan fans can be. Sports are supposed to be fun! Not every mistake is a fireable offense. The mindset of "If my team wins then that's awesome, but if they lose I'm just proven right. Sorry for having high expectations!" is exhausting.
Anyway, the answer is Michigan State

Appreciate the good insight not just on this post but on all basketball content...catching some of the OK St blogs, they are still using PPG as a barometer of team efficiency. Our defense is not stingy because we give up 65.5 points per game (35th nationally).

I'll be there Sunday if they win. It's close enough to Metro D to make a day trip out of and they should be done at a reasonable hour to drive home. I recall from the BTT a few years ago that Indy has a very visible scalping scene a few blocks around the stadium (there's no legal restrictions). I'll likely stubhub a ticket last minute (if the fieldhouse can scan mobile tickets) or scalp if I'm desperate.

Really hoping to see Michigan in Buffalo. Easy drive from metro Detroit, a Thursday game (home for Friday St Patricks/basketball fun) and the most realistic location based on seeding that is also driving distance (10ish hrs to Greenville, 12 hrs to Tulsa, or a flight to Salt Lake City.) Here's hoping!

Part of the fun of march madness is watching the little guys get in and see the live celebration, like when Michigan got in during the 2008-2009 season. Theres a bit of that magic whenever they reveal the names and matchups

Any program not named UCLA, Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, or Kansas would love to be Wisconsin. You seem to be mad that Michigan is not consistently a top 10 team, but I dont know what solution you have for this. There's no clear go-to candidate waiting in the wings (e.g. NC State praying to get alum Archie Miller). Basketball Jim Harbaugh is not coming here because we had some good seasons in the 90s.

I think asking what the ceiling is a question that deserves a better answer than BAH LOSER'S MENTALITY but okay
|5 weeks 20 hours ago||This is just cliche sports||
This is just cliche sports talk that doesn't actually mean anything. Will you know Michigan has heart and determination when more balls go through the hoop? How is Michigan not "striving to be better"?
|5 weeks 20 hours ago||Wisconsin is a good model to||
Wisconsin is a good model to shoot for, but I don't think we're in need of blowing up the program to get there, especially when they are doing exactly what Michigan is trying to do now: develop talent that turns generic 3 star recruits into awesome Jrs and Srs.
We're 11th in AdjO in Kenpom and the defense has improved throughout the year (still a long way to go at 105th in AdjD), but at least Beilein has at least some recognition that it needs to improve by hiring Donlon. With another few years to go on Beilein's contract (there's no way he gets fired as long as he keeps making the tournament), my view is that it's just best to enjoy the ride and see what happens
|5 weeks 23 hours ago||I guess my question for you||
I guess my question for you is the question for all of these kinds of posts: What is our realistic ceiling and how do we get there? John Beilein has flaws, especially when it comes to the types of players he values in recruiting. He's also missed the tournament only 3 times since he was hired and made 5 of the last 6. How much is realistically improved by firing him?

Almost forgot the "but we got Harbaugh" argument that pays no attention to the incredibly unique circumstances that got him here. It's funny that this is the go-to factoid for Beilein replacements but then in other threads we laugh at NFL teams who talk about backing up the money truck to give JH a much more prestigious job.

Let's just fast forward to the part of the conversation where you suggest Archie Miller/Greg Marshall/Tony Bennett as replacements and I'll try to keep a straight face.

It's very obnoxious to bring up John Beilein coaching speculation right now. This team just had their best week of the season since the MSG games and has solidly played themselves in the tourney barring an epic collapse.

"Michigan won two out of three games this week and the third went to OT. What gives?"
|5 weeks 1 day ago||I don't buy any ref||
I don't buy any ref conspiracy theories. I'm just not sure what style of play the refs were trying to enforce. Seemed like any challenged shot (for either team) was an automatic foul.
|5 weeks 1 day ago||Besides the last four minutes||
Besides the last four minutes of the first half, that was an exceptionally ugly and tedious game to watch. I'm not sure we made it more than two possession changes without a foul call in the whole second half. I'm still incredulous that Beilein got a foul called on him on the opposite end of the court. Overall not a good basketball game

ESPECIALLY after the IU game ("you wrecked the program"), the name Jordan Morgan was met with tons of groans. Going from that low to being the perfect pick and roll guy with Stauskas was amazing.

That can all be true and still make Harbaugh in the wrong by not making things crystal clear with Swenson. There was a communication issue and it's on the staff to make it right
|8 weeks 5 days ago||Appreciate Harbaugh reaching||
Appreciate Harbaugh reaching out to give his side of the story. It sounds like he's learned his lesson about being more communicative and honest with recruits. The "it's a business" line doesn't fly when the optics on the situation were so bad for Michigan, so at least he came out and gave his side. I'm glad it all worked out for Swenson

Football games just arent as fun to go to now that TV is the main audience. I went to a Lions game this year and timed 15 minutes of dead TV timeout time in just the first quarter. Is it really that fun to sit around on your phone for an hour and change while the TVs go to commercials? College football is getting to be the same way
That+being increasingly expensive+weather+the drive to Ann Arbor+the guy behind you spewing hot takes about effort and play calling means that fewer people want to go when you can spend your 3.5 hours at home and enjoy it all the same.

You certainly have that right! However there is a good bit of overlap between the "safe spaces are bad" crowd and the "I don't watch sports to hear about politics" group..as if they want sports to be a place where they won't feel uncomfortable I.e a safe space
