How many people believe this is the year Michigan will beat tOsu?

Submitted by VinnieMac25 on

I was trying to talk sense into a buddy of mine, who is a Michigan fan.  Just not a fan of the coach.  It went back and forth with me bringing up so many points on how the defense being young and inexperienced.  However how they are improving and not giving up! He expects shut outs or an average defense atleast. I told him it will come in due time!  To the thread, sorry for the delay.  I haven't picked Michigan to lose any of the games this year, I was hoping for a 12-0 season.  Realistically it may fall 7-5, 8-4, or even 9-3 (excluding bowl) Just curious as to how many people are on my side and agree that after 2562 days it will end? I guess for some dilithium reasons or not, i believe the "team" will get up for the game and shock all those fans!

... whatever. But hey, our offense should give us a chance in every game. Also, never underestimate pryor's ability to be an idiot and tressel's ability to be too conservative. Still, OSU is a very good team, especially on D (envy!)

I liked Tressel's call on the 3rd play of the game to run the option with Pryor. It resulted with Pryor pitching it over the head of Herron and stalling the drive. Good start to a huge game on the road. They probably could have stuck to their bread and butter running plays.

TOM will decide the game.  If TP throws the arm-punt we wipe our ass with him and laugh.

If Denard throws the arm-punt (which he has done twice, tho I love him to death) they laugh.

I have a feeling its time for the Tressel era to end and the Rodriguez era in series dominance to begin.

We have a high powered offense and TP is a joke. It all fits in.

Do we have the talent to beat them? Yes. Will we actually pull it off? I hope so, but it's too early to say.

I'm not gonna sit here and throw out stats, but after that loss to Wisco, I think OSU got a huge reality check. But then again, they also lost to Purdue last year and still beat us, so who really knows.

All in all, I feel confident going into that game. We play Wisco and OSU back to back. If we beat Wis, we will have the confidence on our side going into OSU, but even if we were to lose, I think we would be fired up and ready to play against them. It's a toss up for sure, but I feel good about it.

We've played 7 games and our offense truly has not been stopped yet by a defense.

OSU and Wiscy will be tough. Pryor and Tolzien are capable of making mistakes though.. That's what we'll have to hope for!

I dont think we stopped ourselves against MSU. The MSU defense stepped up and prevented any big plays and tried to make Denard beat them, and he couldnt' do it. The same with Iowa's defense, when a play had to made they were better. I'll take a team with a good defense and good offense, over a team with a horrible defense and great offense.

Just because we didn't score on a long touchdown run or pass doesn't mean their defense stepped. MSU and Iowa was giving us the short stuff all day, but we didn't take it. We shot ourselves in the foot.

We may not have huge gainers against Wiscy or OSU, but that doesn't mean we can't methodically march the ball down field the whole game and beat them that way. We just have to do our thing and protect the ball.

Unlike the last two years...this year we actually have the talent to win.  However, if both teams play their best OSU still wins.  If we lose the turnover battle or it is even, we probably lose.  Win the turnover battle by 1 and we can probably win.  Win it by 2 or more, and its our game.

The last two years we would have probably had to have been +4 in the turnover margin in each game just to keep it close.

I wouldn't put money on the OSU game but you can never tell how that game is gonna turn out.  Last year's game was a lot closer than I expected it to be and if Tate hadn't thrown so many picks, it could have been a different outcome.

If they can protect the ball (unlike the last 2 games), it will go down to the wire.

wont make friends with this comment, but i think our chances are better with Forcier getting as much, if not more time than Denard at QB.

jmo that this game sets up well for Forcier's skill set vs Denard. if you thought MSU and Iowa did well vs Denard just wait til Michigan meets the OSU defense in their house @ 330pm.

they are vulnerable against the pass and Forcier proved that last year save a bum shoulder and freshmen mistakes. i simply dont think Michigan will be able to conjure up the type of running game necessary to beat OSU. it will have to be through the air imo.

lets face it, the running game is Denard Robinson. while he is an elite player there are still legit questions on our RB's/OL vs their front 7. on the other hand, imo Michigan has an extremely underrated WR corps and an accurate passer to get after their defense and get them on their heels.

either way, i just want to see Michigan win. if Denard gives M the best chance then great. if Forcier does then great. if they both help Michigan win then even better.

If michigan doesn't turn the ball over many times like they did against Iowa and MSU i think they can win every game left on the schedule . We have beat ourself in both of our loses . We can try to blame it on the D all we want but thee D hasn't really been that bad the last two game . We have stopped both teams enough to pull out the win with our O but we have done some real dumb things with the ball . It's all about the Turnovers and stupid penalties

TBH at this point I'm almost as optimistic about us beating OSU as us beating Illinois.

That is to say, relative to the beginning of the year, I'm more optimistic than I was that we'll beat OSU, and less optimistic about Illinois.

last week.  I still think they have a good shot but OSU will have to change their MO moving forward.  UM would have better off if they (OSU) just kept winning with whatever they trotted out and had never faced adversity.  I still have to like our chances at home with a potential BCS bid on the line.  It will be very interesting to see how the OSU team responds to the Wisconsin loss in the next few weeks.

I am hugging myself with glee just thinking about it, but it feels like it's something that can't be spoken aloud.

Can't we just work out a "we're gonna beat em this year" hand signal to flash at each other?

If you don't believe then why watch?  Hate to sound cliche'd but "You Gotta Believe".  If the defense can continue to learn and improve a little bit, then maybe, maybe we have a shot.  The offense can move the ball.  The x-factor is that in a game with a team tOSU's caliber, we can't turn the ball over.  We have to get points whenever we can.  Any stop the D can give is a plus.  If we don't throw the ball away we can play with anyone I truly believe.  The only other thing I think we need is to get back to having a little better balance on the offense.  With a defense as talented as tOSU's, we can't lean to heavily on DRob's legs or arm.  We'd have to keep the defense honest on both fronts.  Runs on first and second down and getting into third and seven will surely mean a pass against a good defense and they'll drop into coverage on Denard.  We need to keep 'em guessing.  It's not out of the realm of possibility to win this game.  I hate to say it though, we'll have to do it in a shootout.
