streaming credit is new.  You'll just see if on your bill just like the uber credits.  Re: miles redemption: doing it WITH amex isn't always the right move but you can transfer the miles to a bunch of other suppliers.  With Platinum, one key is booking flights/hotels through their portal which triggers 5x multiplier.  If you travel a lot, this adds up.  Once you've hoarded points, you can transfer them to a specific vendor once you've narrowed the trip you want to take (rather than redeem them with Amex).  Amex points historically have held about as much transfer value as any card miles  but sometimes you'll see a promo where you get 1.25x or even 1.5x on transfer miles.  Again, if you travel a lot, it can be a huge value.  If you're into points/miles, there are a bunch of blogs/sites that cover the topic like a currency exchange.  Here are the amex transfer bonsus:

https://millionmilesecrets.com/guides/amex-transfer-bonus/#:~:text=Current%20Amex%20transfer%20bonus%20deals&text=Earn%2075%2C000%20Membership%20Rewards%C2%AE,3%20months%20of%20Card%20Membership.&text=35%2C000%20Amex%20Membership%20Rewards%C2%AE,Terms%20Apply.

The Points Guy is another site that covers it.

Long live #pick4

Love this diary, Jamie, great work as always.  Having said that, I'm fading Iowa but with you on Clemson and Stanford.  My 4th would be the under on the Clemson/UL game (68).

Wait

Did Saban or Belichick offer?

Heavyweights

"Lunch has been cancelled due to lack of hustle!"

Edit: reply fail to earlier comment w/r/t HW

Sort of fuzzy details here that's a citation 680, it needs about 3000-4000 feet of runway depending on conditions. Golden Triangle has an 8,000 ft runway less than 10 miles from Starkville. So flying in to Jackson would only be classified as arbitrary slight of hand as opposed to necessity. BTW, flight aware has it in Jackson, TN, which is further than probably 10 strips that could easily handle that plane. (Edit, others already found details in included originally)
LOL

This is a perfect MGO genre parody.

Brilliant execution, really well done.

Transitive property

Works every time.

I think he meant no bowl ban,

not that it never happened at all.  Tressel still would have been fired, the bowl ban didn't come until several months after that and was really more due to the booster infractions re: DiGeronimo.

This is

a bizarre tale.

Yeah, if

there were only a way to see them coach against eachother in a game.  Maybe a neutral site game.  Glendale, AZ?

I think

you may have misread that tweet.

"Can't wait to recruit with a " referring to Coombs, not Dawson.

Re: that stat

OSU had 200 yards rushing and 21 first downs.  If Michigan can do that with no turnovers?  No contest.

"President Regan Dyes:"

"His Hair, details at 11 only on ACTION News".

I get why the paper did it but it's just intellectually dishonest to further than headline as the substance of the article.  What the details note is that it is not 64k for bowties...it's 64k of marketing materials in some instance relating to bowties.   Relating that spending to other schools, in particular private schools who aren't divulging such expenditures, is a pretty wank/wank meothod of comparison, don't you think?

Worry and thinking MSU is a "likely loss"

are two very different things.  MSU has shown nothing on offense aside from running Bell 40 times a game.  That plays directly into OSU's defensive strengths (between the hash rush D).  Both teams have some pretty glaring issues but none that I would say tips the balance in either direction to say an particular outcome is "likely".  Might be a repeat 10-7 game but which direction is really anyone's guess.

Close wins to inferior teams is a scout badge both of these teams have earned so far so I don't think that is a great barometer between the two (or any team in the B1G for that matter).

I think the bigger mistake

is thinking that statistics of that nature will influence voters.  We've seen time and time again that winning is one of the most important factors.

A loss like the one UM had vs Alabama is going to be very difficult for Denard to overcome.  Not impossible but a steep uphill climb to be sure.

Are you saying

that Meyer/Herman's offense doesn't work when down?

Or Braxton can't throw the ball downfield? Or he's not clutch? Or what?

It hasn't happened yet this year so I guess there is a bit of TBD on this but last year Miller was down two scores in the 4th twice that I can think of, at UM and UF in the Gator bowl.

10/14, 147yards 1td/0int.

Sure, plenty of room to grow in Miller's game but I think if anything, Herman's variation of Meyer's offense will be more succesful in those situation because the added emphasis on the short and intermediate passing game.  The numbers might be bloated over the course of a season because Miller will throw a lot more than he did last year but you can't say it's ineffective (hasn't happened yet) or he's not capable (in an pretty limited sample, he's performed quite well).

Maybe

but unless USC loses a commit, I think 18 recruits and 18 four stars is a pretty good bet for the top spot this year.

Holy homer

There is nothing to show that other teams will improve but Michigan is destined to repeat 11-2 or improve.  Yeah man, nothing to refute that.  Surely all of UM's replacements will exceed their expectations, no one from OSU or Nebraska will improve or exceed theirs.

"I don't see why any would expect anything less than another 11-2 or 12-1"

Because you are starting the season against the defending national champion at a neutral site, likely dogged double digits at kick.  That defending NC also has the best coach in college and has recruited more talent than any other team over the last 3 years.  UM will also play 3 likely-to-be-ranked at the time teams on the road, where if you'll recall, UM didn't play very well on last year, taking their two losses to a kinda good team and a pretty meh team.

If you don't see that as reason to speculate on more than 2 losses, you're a total blind homer.  Not saying it can't happen but if you're being reasonable, even if Michigan is a better team in 2012, they could very well end up with a worse record than 2011, that's just the way it sets up.

I don't understand

why people are acting like he's fresh off the boat and has never played football.  The guy started every game last year for one of the best D-lines in the country.

Um

Steele picked LSU and Alabama for the NC game and picked UM in the Sugar.

He showed his formula predicted LSU to win that game but he went on record predicting Alabama to win, prior to the season.

This is from August 2011.

http://blog.philsteele.com/2011/08/12/2011-12-bowl-projections/

Here is Steele talking about picking Alabama to win in 2011.

http://www.elevenwarriors.com/2012/07/12344/12-0-is-a-possibility-chatt…

Yeah, what a hack.

It's also

the first game of the season.  It's not like they are locking in to game film from last year and won't prepare for alternatives.  In terms of defensive schemes, I would say Saban's ability to adapt to the situation is as good as anyone in CFB, many would say the best.

I mean, 234 yards against the LSU secondary

is pretty amazing.  Michigan's defensive backfield was tremendously improved year over year but, and I mean this honestly with no trolling intention, no one in the UM D backfield would see the field for LSU.  The Bama WR's might not hark to the days of Julio Jones but they will get theirs especially when the D loads up to stop Eddie Lacy.  The play action is going to brutal for UM, being put into 1 on 1 with no help over the top is going to lead to a few big gainers.

Of course, you never know what could happen.  Lacy could fumble a few times, tipped balls etc.  I'm not saying it's a lock but Michigan is going to need some serious breaks to walk away with that one.

He is really a

DT.  That's just recruiting services lumping them together.

Well...

Sliding in the draft isn't a bad thing all the time, it would only be a bad thing if he fizzles out in his first contract.  TBD.  If you go on to a long career, it really won't be a huge difference either way.  The difference between the #5 and #15 pick is ~4.4 million over the first three years.  The difference could be made up in year 1 of his second deal if he catches on with a team and plays well.  That 3 year difference is about 2 million less than Andre Blatche makes per season.  If he is going to be good, he will make plenty of money regardless of where he goes in the draft.   Between this and the Troy Smith thread, the butthurt of Michigan past is strong today.

I mean

the accuracy of the original story is really neither here nor there.  He was using it to illustrate the basis for Genovese syndrome, which the story, accurate or not, does.  Getting into the accuracy of the original story doesn't change the basis of the point he is making w/r/t the Genovese effect and the Penn State scandal.

Take your last bit

and run it after saying a really racist comment.  Sounds like your speed.

THERE IS A REASON STEREOTYPES EXSIST, GUYS!

I'm not sure

how much can be gleaned from last year with respect to games played at the end of November of this year.  That is a long way off to be talking about what will or will not work w/r/t a new offense.  Keep in mind, these are estimates, not casino numbers.  No one is "enticing bets" or any other chicanery with these numbers, simply guestimates.

I mean

UM scored 14 on that defense last year.  So if you take the logic of "we'll be better on both sides of the ball" you would have to assume that MSU's defense would be better as well, effectively cancelling out the UM gain in O.  I think JM's larger point here is that MSU is talented, plays UM tough and 6.5 is a lot in any tight rivalry.  So, by proxy of "getting while the getting's good" I think the idea of taking the 6.5 is a good bet in that the odds are in your favor that the number will go down as the game approaches.

Russian River

So, so jealous.

Aside from the idiotic concept of

karma w/r/t a team and respective fans of said team...let me address your point about OSU LB recruiting....

Let's just take Rivals as an example.

2012 4* 4* 3* 3*

2011 5* 4* 3* 3*

BTW, Scout was higher on them as a whole

2012 4* 4* 4* 3*

2011 5* 4* (4*) 3* (scount no longer lists Price, who since left OSU)

For the record, Shazier was a 4* in both, which I think having seen his freshman year, is a bit underrated (he really was a big impact as a freshman).

So...not really sure where in the living hell you pulled "their linebacker recruiting two years running looks weaker than typical from a rankings perspective, and things could continue to get worse for them."  The past two years have been the best LB recruiting years in the last 5 for OSU and deeper two years in a row than the previous 3.  Seriously, what the fuck are you talking about?

Are you brain damaged?

You are seriously saying that an OSU employee had something to do with this?  That someone in the AD texted with a sex offender and said "hey, there are some underage kids that might be coming to Ohio State next year.  They are at a BW3 off campus, you should go and meet with them".  This is seriously what you are suggesting?  And you think that there is evidence to justify a warrant to prove this?

Both of these

things are extremely optimistic.  Michigan would be lucky to start in the top 10 and going 4-0 would certainly be a big boost but #1?  Who is USC, LSU, Oregon, UGA, OU etc. going to lose to that early?  Top 5?  Sure, that's a very real possibility but #1 would take a lot of stars aligning, especially that early.

As for "probably have the #1 recruiting class locked up by October 1st"...well, counting chickens etc.  They are all verbal commits on October 1st and UT, UF, UGA and Bama could all pass UM by NSD, by October 1st...TBD I suppose but nothing would be "locked up".

The above comment should be the cap on this thread....

Anyone who says he's an idiot or that "any rational human being knows this is a stupid decision" clearly isn't thinking about the possibility that he is drafted at all, assuming he is just flushed through the D league straight to Euro ball.  So...what if he gets picked up at 30ish...plays a year of D league and boom...makes a NBA team.

I thought Daequan Cook was stupid for leaving early (also after his frosh year), the guy didn't even start his freshman year (though was 6th man of the year in the B1G I believe).  Now he is a solid role player on the best team in the western conference, banking 3.3 mil a year.  Is anyone (other than the above poster) going to acknowledge that the kid could make it?

Good luck to the kid, hope he does make it.

I dunno

Manny Harris leaving was pretty stupid.

This...

might be the most outrageous thing ever posted on the internet, sir.

You shouldn't be afraid of a staff

that hasn't worked a single game together as a unit.  That's idiotic.  I do think there is great potential though, hard to say there isn't.  Great players make coaches look great, plain and simple.  The talent is there for OSU to be very good next year.  If you think that these coaches are incapable of winning 10-11 games with the talent on hand, we'll have to agree to disagree.

No matter

how much effort you put in to this sign, there is no contest for greatest sign of the college basketball season....

It seems

some of the same folks who were saying Hoke was the worst case scenario and would be the death knell of UM.

Correct

on both counts.  Graduating in 3 years.

Well a few things

first, Bama v Michigan is a better matchup than Bama v LSU?  You are being serious?  And the biggest problem with ticket sales is people being "able to take 2 or 3 days off" of work? Come on.  If you have 2-4k to drop on a football trip, you can take off work for 2 days.  I think the main problem with BCS games, especially ones that can't sell out, is that the generally have crappy teams in them who didn't really deserve any type of special bowl.  Va Tech for instance...got murdered in their last game yet expected fans to shell out a few grand to go see them play again?  Come on.  It's that the also-ran BCS games mean nothing.  If each BCS game meant a potential birth into the next round of a playoff, each one would sell out in a heart beat.  Michigan v Bama is a hot ticket because both teams have everything to play for at that point versus Va Tech playing Michigan for a pride trophy and tshirt sales.

Uh ok

Congrats on scheduling Alabama this year, let me know how well that works out for you.  Probably similar to how scheduling USC was for OSU.

You act like

Meyer promised hookers and gold, PT freshman year and that he bad mouthed MSU.  He probably offered a scholorship and Pittman took it.  It's not like Houston taking away a 5* from ND, this is an Ohio kid that changed his mind.  No reason to assume crazy promises were made in order to get his commitment or that there was anything negative about the process, that's just absurd bias unless of course you have some facts to back that up...?

So

you know the initimate details of the in home visit and then cite Farrell, known hack, to make a statement on Meyer.  Okey doke.

This is more of a gesture

to pressure other schools to do it, ultimately putting oversigning practices to an end.  Anyone ragging on Urban Meyer in a thread about OSU offering 4 year schollies is not very intelligent and/or overwhelmingly butthurt 24/7.

A great example of the differences between sites (re: stars/#s)

Jamal Marcus and Jordan Diamond are the exact same ranking on ESPN (4*, 80) and nearly the same on 247 (4*s, 94 and 96 respectively).

Yeah...

that didn't happen though.

Speaking

of butthurt

Generally

new buildings look better than old, dilapidated buildings, yes I would agree with that.  You hate anything OSU, I get it but W/R/T recruits, I think seeing a brand new area with restaurants, bars and shopping isn't a detraction.  I'm pretty sure there aren't any 5* guys out there looking for a cosy kitch area.  "Rabble, rabble, I don't like your restaurants and new buildings, I want run down places with some character, like the old days, rabble". -no recruit, ever.

It's no murdermore

but across the river is a tough area.

http://spotcrime.com/dc/washington/anacostia

That's two shootings, a handful of assaults and a ton of robberies (not thefts).  All in the last two weeks.  Now, those "worst neighborhood" rankings that come out from time to time are definitely idiotic considering last time they listed anacostia and navy yard side by side...lolwut?  Yeah, bottom line, I'm not taking pleasure walks through anacostia.

I think tickets could go down

when the official preseason lines comes out.  Saban with an entire offseason to prepare?  I'm honestly interested to see what that line will be.  I'm assuming it will be Bama -12.  If Dont'a Hightower returns will be a big factor.  Trey DePriest will do very well replacing Upshaw and their depth in the front 7 is absurd (lol oversigning).  Even replacing their entire def secondary, I don't think Denard can get away with any prayer punts against that D.  Their new CB's are both juniors 4 and 5* respectively.  The safety situation is even more absurd with 3rd year 4 stars or 5 star 2nd years.
