Angelique Chengelis: Wormley thinks Hurst will be back & Harbaugh thinks Drake could play

Submitted by Indonacious on

Wormley says his "gut feeling" is Hurst will be back at UM next year

Granted this likely means nothing but nice to hear this way vs. a "no comment"...

Harbaugh on Big Ten call: "where he's at physically...what i've seen in practice" says Drake Johnson should be ready to play this weekend

I think Onwenu is destined for d-line next year. Maybe some snaps in six-man o-line fronts, but more defensive linemen play in the course of one game. More depth is needed there

I think its more that they are more worried about the OL. Cole is the only 1st team starter returning. No one knows when or if Newsome will be back. JBB hasn't set the world on fire. Bredeson and Onwenu will be needed at the guards. Kugler is the only other player seeing any significant playing time. As stated above DL could be strong with Gary, Hurst, Mone and Winovich starting.

I look for Onwenu to get reps on the DL in short yardage situations.

We took a large class in 2016 because it would be the first full class of the Harbaugh era. He inherited a strong foundation from Hoke.

We have a lot of young talent and it'll be their turn to shine next year.

Michael Onwenu, Carlo Kemp, Ron Johnson, Shelton Johnson, Lawrence Marshall, Michael Dwumfour, Reuben Jones.

And then we'll add players like Luiji Vilain and James Hudson. There's room for players like Jay Tufele and Rutger Reitmaier.

Young, not thin.  Get used to this...we will be entering Bama and OSU territory over the next few years, where you just reload.

Onwenu at NT and Hurst returning would be a very solid gap stuffing run D to start with.  Gary, Marshall, Kemp, the Johnsons....I think we will be fine.  Maybe not suffocating like this year, but we will be solid.

Not many people in college get off the ball as quickly as Hurst. I could see him being projected high with the value the NFL places on interior pass rushers.

I feel sorry for whoever their next coach is when he won't be able to produce wins at the level bama fans are used to...but really I don't. Brace yourselves for the storm that's coming. The schadenfruede will be like none we've ever experienced before and it will be glorious

Mo has his eyes on the NFL, that is for sure. But he is a smart kid and knows that coming back will very likely raise his draft stock to 1st or 2nd round. And this is not to say he doesn't deeply care about Michigan's succes ( he does ) but the NFL is a goal. Especially since his dad, whom he doesn't know, was a NFL player.

change the rotation for the DL by giving Brown great flexibility at 3/5 tech in combinatin with Gary who should be able to play every tech on passing downs.  Otherwise, the 3 tech gets a little thin next year unless Onwenu mans the 1 and Mone ftis the 3.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ty Issac declared. He has already transferred once, he has very low mileage on him, and I'm guessing he would test well. He doesn't figure to be "the man" next year, and a team could definitely take a shine to him.

Drake Johnson is probably moving on with his life after this year. I'm sure he wants to go out in style and play as much as possible, but he's not playing pro and I can't imagine he wants to try for a sixth year after he's had the bad luck he's had at Michigan. Him being part of a team that beats OSU and getting us a shot at the big ten title is a fitting end for any Michigan career.

I think you underestimate his or a players in general competitive drive. Yes, he may want to play this year to contribute as much as possible to a possible championship team, but he can also get an extra year of schooling and recovery and come back full force, possibly even transferring to be a lead back at a smaller school.
