đź”’[Covid thread lockdown] Anyone come back from Indy with a little friend? (covid)
I guess I shouldn't have been high-fiving people sitting next to me like it was 2019. I'm not too ill, sorta like a cold. Of course, the victory was worth it. Luckily no one else in my family is ill and we are all vaxxed to the max. So just curious, anyone else get COVID at the game?

COVID is spread by air not by touch. You probably got it in a public restroom or some other indoor area during your trip.

As confident as Tyler Durden maybe here he is wrong.
Once thought to be true but probably only represented the limits of the ability to culture tiny amounts of bacteria. More modern methods based on genetic markers over the past decade have completely overturn this assertion.

as a scientist, I am not confident in the methods as described to be certain that there was an instance of contamination in the urethra
it takes 1 viable bacterial cell
also, the kidney filters pretty much anything that isn’t transcellularly permeable or actively transported into the bladder

Pee is pretty darn sterile but once it’s out there’s bacteria in the literal air that will colonize it.

Why make such a definitive statement when a simple google search would've proven that you are wrong?
The virus that causes COVID-19 can land on surfaces. It’s possible for people to become infected if they touch those surfaces and then touch their nose, mouth, or eyes. In most situations, the risk of infection from touching a surface is low.
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/disinfecting-building-facility.html#:~:text=The%20virus%20that%20causes%20COVID,touching%20a%20surface%20is%20low.
The COVID-19 virus can also spread if someone touches his or her eyes, nose or mouth after touching a surface or object with the virus on it. Without cleaning and disinfection, the COVID-19 virus may stay on surfaces from hours to days. However, the risk of COVID-19 infection through contact with contaminated surfaces is low.
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/coronavirus/in-depth/coronavirus-transmission/art-20482397
Surface transmission. A less common method is when you touch surfaces that someone who has the virus has coughed or sneezed on. You may touch a countertop or doorknob that's contaminated and then touch your nose, mouth, or eyes. The virus can live on surfaces like plastic and stainless steel for 2 to 3 days. To stop it, clean and disinfect all counters, knobs, and other surfaces you and your family touch several times a day.

Blue, not a single case of COVID transmission had ever been proven by fomite transmission. Not s single case by genetic sequencing.
The CDC has to say that it's still possible because they told us all for one year to wash out hands and but disinfectant. There's not a single study with empirical evidence though.
And honestly Blue your a jerk for spreading misinformation. How many people have died because they think if they wash their hands they can't get COVID?

Despite the bullshit you wrote in your last paragraph, I'll engage you on this topic because you seem to be more informed than someone like me who just follows the CDC. But with regard to your comment that "not a single case of COVID transmission had ever been proven", isn't there a difference between (a) proving a case of fomite transmission, and (b) being able to rule it out. It seems to me that you are assuming the latter because you haven't observed any cases of the former.
As far as your second paragraph goes, the most logical explanation is one of caution, no? Why jump to the conclusion that they don't want to admit that they were wrong? They clearly say that it is thought to be rare which, in my mind, is like saying 'unlikely but still possible'.

Our entire household and my daughters as well has some messed up kavorka bug. Starts out as a killer sore throat, then congestion and horrible ear pain. Dr prescribed antibiotics to my son and daughter and it didn’t do shit, obviously viral. I’ve been feeling like I got drug behind a truck since Monday, just when I feel like I might be over it another stage enters the mix.

There's not a single case study that has ever happened, ever. We've traced cats giving COVID to humans and we still haven't traced fomite transmission. That you have so many up votes is confirmation that most people still don't understand COVID as a very unique disease.

This is actually true. That’s why the sanitizer thing is mostly for show. A doctor friend of mine says her and her friends laugh about it and say whatever benefit it has could be obtained by simply washing your hands with soap and water.

Your "doctor friend" laughing about strangers taking precautionary measures means that your doctor friend is an out-of-touch prick.
Proof that being a doctor doesn't mean you're smart. They just put up with residency and redundancy more than most would.

Thats the point. It’s actually not really a precautionary measure. It has vey little to do stopping infection, yet everyone — for 2 years until most woke up — put as much hand sanitizer on as possible. That’s why it’s funny. It was silly and based in hysteria.
What’s not so funny was shutting down schools for almost 2 years for no reason having anything to do with public health or stopping transmission. Will never get over the destruction that caused and hope nobody else does either.
