As a former BIG ball player, who played against Putnam, I have never heard more excitement about him than on this blog. He was not at all a focus of our game planning, pitching or hitting, and we swept M in AA. Those other guys you named, as well as Getz, Brauer, etc were far more respected for what they could collectively do against us as opposed any individual Putnam included. To your point, he was not the impact that it appears Meram was. |

Is it possible to create the lockers and award certain players the locker and the distinction, but only actually wear the patch & jersey on the designated "Legends" game? Perhaps it becomes a homecoming tradition? Could Denard wear an "empatched" #27 for just one game next year? Yet be given the combination to the Friedman Legend Locker for the whole year? |

The Boss story is nice, I remember him recruiting me at EMU and he did a great job helping them become a much improved program. I can't go along with losing him as the reason for Maloney's troubles. Maloney had outstanding recruiting at Ball-Freakin'-State before Boss was ever working with him. How did Maloney do all that? FWIW competing against M for the BTC in 2006 I heard a lot of gushing from players and parents about Maloney, never heard anything good or bad about Boss. In a year where I heard a lot of negativity from parents and players about their coaches across the BIG, Maloney stood out as one who was revered. Lastly, I know Putnam is homeboys with many here, but as players, we had far more respect for Brauer's abilities than Putnam. That could have been a function of age though. |

Did Maloney not have another 1st rd draft pick at BSU as well? I am not sure I understand what happened here. I played against Maloney's BTC teams and it seemed like everyone from recruits to former players and all of their parents said every good thing you could say about Maloney's ability to coach, manage, hire, recruit, and develop. Where did it all go? I never knew of a team that talked their coach up as much as M kids did Maloney. Everyone else in the BIG seemed somewhat dissatisfied with their coaches. |

In the clubhouse that players thought Tram was too soft and too much of a friend/not enough of a mgr. |

My honesty is this: when I was being recruited D1 I did not care about the storied traditions and history of BIG programs at all. I wanted coaching and exposure to get me to the next level. Fans grow attached to traditions, recruits, despite what many say, are focused purely on the here and now opportunities to get themselves to the next level. Although it makes for good copy to say things like we love tradition and are excited about history. |
