35 Wolverines made final 53 man NFL rosters
Random thoughts: Undrafted rookie Josh Ross made the final Ravens roster! Only 5 of the 35 active Wolverines didn’t play for Harbaugh (Brady, Clark, Graham, Henne, Lewan). 37 year old Henne heads into his 14th season (backup QB is quite the gig, keep collecting those checks!). Mone enters his 4th season in the NFL after going undrafted (signed a 2 year $12M extension this summer).

Sorry, missed RB Hassan Haskins of the Tennessee Titans in my list and Henne is actually entering his 15th season, not 14th.

With Chad Henne hanging on, I believe there are more Wolverines who were coached by Carr still in the NFL (2 — Brady and Henne) than Rich Rod (1 — Lewan). Did I miss anyone?
August 31st, 2022 at 11:05 PM ^
Brandon Graham played two seasons for Carr 2006-07 but didn’t rack up conference or national honors until his seasons under Rich Rod in 2008-09
September 1st, 2022 at 9:36 AM ^
So Carr: 2.5 to Rich Rod 1.5.

Nice to see a lot of recent players making it. I'm a little bummed there were so many cut, as there could have been at least a few more.
August 31st, 2022 at 11:03 PM ^
Some names I was surprised I didn't see....
Mo Hurst (injury)
Ryan Glasgow
Cam McGrone
Jake Ryan
August 31st, 2022 at 11:10 PM ^
McGrone is on the Patriots practice squad (even though he should be starting next to Junior Colson)
Ryan Glasgow retired last year.
September 1st, 2022 at 6:46 AM ^
Jake Ryan hasn't been active for quite some time:

Also, good for James Ross! Didn't see that coming ...

Yeah, Hurst is on the IR list for the year but by all accounts would have on the SF roster if not. So that's good for him.
McGrone wasn't getting a ton of positive write-ups for the Patriots but still a bit surprised he got bumped down to the practice squad after only a year.
September 1st, 2022 at 10:00 AM ^
Those positive write-ups pretty much stopped once preseason games started. He struggled.
August 31st, 2022 at 11:18 PM ^
I think just about every player that was cut was added to their respective practice teams.
September 1st, 2022 at 10:52 AM ^
Practice squad players make over $200,000 a year. Not a bad gig and maybe good to transition to coaching.
September 1st, 2022 at 12:14 AM ^
Sad to see Chris Hinton didn't make a roster.
September 1st, 2022 at 5:22 AM ^
Can we stop claiming Frank Clark?
September 1st, 2022 at 7:25 AM ^
Yeah, if you kicked a guy off your roster for violent assault then fans should probably stop treating him as one of their own.
September 1st, 2022 at 10:34 AM ^
Wouldn’t we have to do the same for Taylor Lewan?
September 1st, 2022 at 1:32 PM ^
I’m not claiming them. I don’t root for him or Lewan. Just simply listed the players who played their college football at Michigan who are now on active NFL rosters
September 1st, 2022 at 5:24 AM ^
Thanks for compiling this list
I am saddened that Ben Murderface Mason didn’t last longer in the league.
September 1st, 2022 at 5:49 AM ^
He made the practice squad.
September 1st, 2022 at 6:31 AM ^
Interesting to see what a lack of offensive skill talent we’ve produced that has been able stock in the League. The later year Hoke recruits should be important veterans at this point.
September 1st, 2022 at 8:25 AM ^
I pointed this out years ago as one of the reasons the team couldn't get over the hump. A couple years ago, I don't know that there were any offensive skill position players in the league other than Brady, certainly no pro-bowl worthy players.

It looks like the Steelers win the title of 2022 Michigan Alumni House with 4. Kansas City (if we count Frank Clark) and New England are close seconds with 3. Baltimore, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Green Bay and Tennessee with 2 each.

Taco and Vincent made the Saints practice squad.
It was posted in the earlier thread but Hawkins and McGrone made the Pats practice squad as well.
September 1st, 2022 at 7:33 AM ^
Not often a fan of the way the NFL conducts player business, but the expanded practice squads seems like a good decision for the sport as a whole.

Backup QBs and long snappers - the safest NFL road to longevity Go Cheeseman! Make us proud! (With that name, shouldn't WA trade him to GB?)
September 1st, 2022 at 7:53 AM ^
More practice squad guys:
Daylen Baldwin on the Brown's practice squad
Sean McKeon on the Cowboy's practice squad
Khaleke Hudson on the Commander's practice squad
September 1st, 2022 at 8:13 AM ^
It is always interesting to see how some guys who were never stars in college still succeed in the NFL for whatever reason, while some who were stars can’t cut it—but those are mostly Ohio State QBs.
September 1st, 2022 at 8:16 AM ^
37 year old Henne heads into his 14th season (backup QB is quite the gig, keep collecting those checks!).
I believe it was the purveyor of this blog who once wrote something very similar about Todd Collins many many moons ago. I'm dating myself.
September 1st, 2022 at 10:42 AM ^
Henne helped KC win a playoff game in 2020! As Boyle and Blough saw with the Lions this preseason, holding down the back-up job isn't a gimme.
September 1st, 2022 at 10:52 AM ^
Dating yourself, be careful don't wake up regretting something you let yourself do the night before.

Former Michigan players...
Benjamin St-Juste (M then Minny) on Commanders
Ian Bunting "Ol Skillet hands" (M then Cal) made Cowboys
Luiji Villain (M then Wake) made Vikings
September 1st, 2022 at 8:29 AM ^
its good to see that Martellus kid hanging in there....
September 1st, 2022 at 8:56 AM ^
Or... one Bama draft class!! haha.. just kidding.
Awesome to see guys filling out NFL rosters, hope we can keep adding to that finally for years and years after some slow times. Would love to see someone pick up the mantle from Tom.. JJ? Davis? Who's next!
What a career arc for B Graham. He was considered a bust early, then had injuries, then came on, and now is a wily vet!
September 1st, 2022 at 9:16 AM ^
More Lloyd Carr QBs still on NFL rosters than QBs from RichRod, Hoke and Harbaugh combined
September 1st, 2022 at 10:19 AM ^
In 2020, I wrote a Diary post which detailed all the pro accomplishments of every UM starting QB since Bo was hired.
I don't remember the exact words, but my summary of Carr's years were something like, "Carr sent EVERYONE to the NFL, even if all they got was a cup of coffee, or, if you're Drew Henson, a sad dose of reality."
The Moeller-Carr years were THE era to be a Michigan QB.

Four players on the Steelers; three on the Patriots and Chiefs. Two players on the Ravens, Browns, Packers, and Bengals. The rest are solitary animals.
For position groups -- 8 on the D-line, 8 on the O-line, and also 6 in the defensive backfield.
I can't resist a good pivot table. Or even a mediocre one!
September 1st, 2022 at 10:14 AM ^
4 Steelers, 4 Chiefs, 3 Patriots. Winning programs.

Quinn Nordin not anywhere?
September 1st, 2022 at 10:32 AM ^
He's also in some type of injury status but his rights are held by the Patriots. Unclear if he'll have a roster spot once healthy but kickers tend to bounce around a lot.
September 1st, 2022 at 10:31 AM ^
Andrew Stueber is in the same status as Mo Hurst. On an injured/PUP list and not eligible to play until week 5 at the earliest, but the team doesn't have to release him as he doesn't count against the 53-man roster.
Most of what I read had him 50/50 to make the Patriots though I'm sure the injury didn't help.
Also looks like Patrick Omameh has ended what has to have been one of the more unexpected 8-9 year NFL careers. Congrats to him on finding all that success at the NFL level.

Wolverines are 2% of league rosters. That's pretty awesome. Averaging more than one Wolverine per team. GO BLUE!
September 1st, 2022 at 10:53 AM ^
Henne is smiling and thinking "I've got the best fucking job in the world."
September 1st, 2022 at 8:51 PM ^
Trivia question- what was the most number of UM QBs in the NFL simultaneously?
I think it was 5 around 2001: Harbaugh, Grbac, Collins, Griese, and Brady. Hard to imagine we ever had more than that. At the time, it seemed it would last forever and you would always have multiple NFL teams to root for just based on a UM player involved in every play.
September 1st, 2022 at 10:01 PM ^
Dreisbach also made NFL rosters during that time period. He was signed as a backup for the Lions in 2001.
