A. Don't you think that retort is a little heavy-handed?

Friendly correction: "overstated."

I know you've had a colorful commenting history, but I very much agree. Peppers will likely take some knocks in coverage and be very good by the end of the year or in 2015 by learning from his mistakes. He's also not the most important new player. That honor belongs to Hurst or Mone.
|1 year 9 weeks ago||Though it is true that Irvin||
Though it is true that Irvin is "Just a Shooter" right now, one of the other (and I think more important) reasons why he won't be called "Not Just a Shooter" when his stat line is a little fuller is because he came in with a reputation for being a complete scorer who was going to have Hardaway skills on both ends of the floor, whereas Stauskas' main expectation was that he'd make his living on his long-distance shooting. When Irvin becomes Not Just a Shooter, he will be living up to expectations, whereas when Stauskas is "Not Just a Shooter" he's surpassing expectations.

My favorite plays are often those where, say, Jeremy Gallon makes a "cerebral" or "heads-up" play or a "gritty" block, or when Jake Ryan uses his "natural abilities" to track down a mobile QB, because of the way they subvert the stereotypes.

Taylor became a pretty sure tackler, especially by the end of the year, and outside of maybe playing off too far off the ball (which may have been what he was instructed to do) looked solid in coverage even while getting picked on. Peppers appears to be an exceptional athlete, but he will take his knocks early as all freshman DBs do (even Woodson did). I'm still holding out some hope for Delano Hill, who made a couple of heads-up plays early on with special teams, to get some looks there.

I'd say LeVert, Spike, Stauskas. I've rarely seen GR3 do many things in the clutch.
|1 year 11 weeks ago||I'm not sure that I||
I'm not sure that I understand the rationale here. What exactly made Ryan the best linebacker? As has been stated, the statistics, even if projected through the entire year, do not support this claim. Morgan and Ross both had very good seasons, tackled well, and had to cover enormous swath of territory in the bend-but-don't-break formations. I thought that, for all of his strengths, Ryan was more often out of position because he was looking to be disruptive.

The game he sarcastically referenced (Holiday Bowl '94) would have been during your time in school, no?

What an incredible human being.
My favorite Mandela memory is when he came to Detroit in the early 90s (Tiger Stadium IIRC) and acknowledged his standing ovation with great enthusiasm, saying "Yes, Detroit! Motortown!"

And by that logic Reader71, we should have been in a lone set back formation and thrown a throwback screen, even that close to the goal line.
|1 year 13 weeks ago||I somewhat disagree. Green||
I somewhat disagree. Green had two nice runs for first downs where he ran over some guys for positive yards after building a head of steam, but he still seems too hesitant near the LOS and thus loses momentum and can be tackled. Smith looked more like Hyde to me, since he has great balance, he broke quite a few tackles and hit the hole with more authority. I bet he'll almost always gain at least two yards next year.
|1 year 13 weeks ago||We were 7-5 when we went to||
We were 7-5 when we went to the Gator Bowl on NYD 2011. That would be fortunate, I think, to go back there this year. I'd rather us play a NYD bowl for the payoff and prestige, but for selfish reasons I'd love to see us out west for a bowl like BWW.
|1 year 15 weeks ago||This has been stated many||
This has been stated many times before, but I feel it is worth repeating: expecting freshmen to be world-beaters on defense is pure folly and is fueled by a complete overvaluing of incoming recruiting talent over playing experience. Expecting Da'Shawn Hand or Jabrill Peppers to catapult us to relevance next year is fantasy. Even Charles Woodson took his licks as a freshman and got beaten over the top a few times before he started figuring it out and flashed some greatness (like '95 OSU, for example). Though I believe that they will both be excellent players, those freshmen will need time and will make some significant blunders before they start figuring it out later in the year or sophomore year.

Ironically, the OP does actually provide an example of begging the question by making points 5 and 6 by assuming points 3 and 4 to be true.
And I'm pretty sure that this is an example of irony.

Point made, of course, but for accuracy's sake: "I'm 5'8 1/2", but I play like I'm 5'9". "

We need his bloodline. Forget lacrosse, kid; we're teaching you how to snap to shotgun and execute reach blocks. Hope you're a quick learner.
|1 year 20 weeks ago||I doubt this is the case.||
I doubt this is the case. While it will undoubtedly give emotional lift to the team and the fans to see him out there, the coaches aren't going to just put him in with an ACL that's not been tested in a game only when the game is on the line. He's likely going to a bit rusty initially, like Countess was. I'll predict he gets in on the 2nd or 3rd series.

Matt started the tradition of performing the drum major's pregame show back bend touching the ground with his head, without a helmet or hat. He was an excellent drum major and I hope he heals quickly and fully.

The real shame here is that "Blurred Lines" rips off Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give It Up", which is a much better song.
|1 year 20 weeks ago||Agreed. I still haven't||
Agreed. I still haven't jumped off his bandwagon. I know it was against meager competition, but he really battled for the few yards he had in the CMU game. I don't think he was that slow.
|1 year 20 weeks ago||It's pretty difficult to do||
It's pretty difficult to do the entries into Michigan Stadium; at 5-8, 180, he'd better be built like Barry Sanders.
I live in Sacramento and had no idea that DJ Wilson was here. There are many Michigan grads and potential connections to form here if he wished to utilize them.

It may look lame and corny now (and probably did in their day too, frankly) but it's a great link to our school's history and traditions. I was glad to see them.

This was a great post with an excellent quote, and there is great humor in the juxtaposition of your signature line right underneath it.

Apparently, Michael Ferns made his mark on defense, too. On TTB's recruit tracker, he's noted to have had 20 tackles in his game on Friday and 62 for the year.
And WRT to the "Redskins", my favorite commentary on the matter has always come from Chris Rock on SNL's Weekend Update: http://snltranscripts.jt.org/90/90cupdate.phtml
