He's the winningest Lions coach in the Super Bowl era (except Moeller, who was 7-4-3 in his one season). It's hard for me to understand why he has been given such a short leash.

I think Cole was expecting help on that play. It appeared that Bredeson was supposed to help double team McDowell. He whiffed and ended up blocking nobody.

The UFRs have borne this out. Great UFR numbers with no negatives in 3 weeks with limited snaps.

I agree that their data may be useful, but if PFF and this site are going to purport the PFF data as a standard, it's imperative that their system be more transparent as the commenter above suggested. Brian is paying for this data and can ask more from them, rather than having to guess at how they arrive at their numbers.

Some African American names are invented, with extensive usage of prefixes like Da/De, La/Le, distinctive letters Q and V, and suffixes like -iqua and -awn. Some are French (Antoine), Arabic (Tariq) or Swahili (Imani) in origin and have particular meaning.
The invented names are mostly an Afrocentric post-civil rights era phenomenon (African Americans above 50 are likely to have pretty conventional names), but these names give a melodic and unique rhythmic pattern when combined with the (usually) British surnames inherited from slavery.
We chose a conventional name for our son, but I definitely dig our naming traditions.

On at least half of Smith's runs today, there was an unblocked defender meeting him in the backfield as soon has he received the handoff. Since that has been the case for so much of his career, he has learned to make the first move available rather than wait for the right move. It looks like poor vision, but I think it's just an antsy learned survival reaction.

I was surprised to not see anyone mention Tommie Frazier until now. He was the QB for two consecutive undefeated NC seasons basically on one good leg and was just incredible to watch run the option.
