This is the thread for hot takes about the offense and the offensive playcalling.

JJ McCarthy is now the Michael Jordan of football. Blake still primed to go off. TEs are killing it. A little concerned for Donovan, but nice for him to get that TD. Hope he can build off that.

Seven games in, and Edwards has his first touch down.

Seven games in, and the game is done by the 4th quarter

There is so much in the tank that this team is not revealing.

Also, great game in the rain.

We score 0 points and hardly gained any yards in the entire 1st quarter.

The first string offense scored 38 points in only two quarters of action in the pouring rain.

The second and third string offense scored 14 points on their own in the 4th quarter in the pouring rain.

The defense only gave up 7 points all game long and utterly shut down Indiana after the 1st quarter.

52-7…

Damn folks…damn

I've never in my life seen michigan beat bad teams like they should for 7 weeks straight, they always found a way to struggle against some bad teams. This team is elite

Also I'm glad they kept Tuttle in, if JJ gets hurt we need someone with experience

State is a tougher matchup than their record suggests (even leaving aside rivalry juju).

They have more ability in the passing game and on the DL than what we’ve faced so far. Washington crushed them by throwing every down and winning 50-50 balls, but U-M isn’t that kind of team.

State has to play a much cleaner game than they have to date, and they just might not be capable of that. But if they knock off the mistakes for one day, they could be feisty.

Here's a terrible question:  Was this JJ's 2nd worse game?  I think the 2 fumbles might do it despite the really shiny yds/attempt.  But, I suppose that's the real point.  14-17 for 222, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions, 2nd worst?  Ha-ha, I'll take it.

Edwards isn’t close to what he was last year. If we’re being honest, so far Corum isn’t quite what he was, either. Right now, the best part of the offense is the passing game and the best player has been McCarthy.

McCarthy now has 41 career TD passes, which places him 9th all-time. Nine more this season and he would pass Steve Smith (42), Devin Gardner (44), Shea Patterson (45), Rick Leach (48), and Denard Robinson (49) for 4th place. The top three are Henne (87), Navarre (72), and Grbac (71).

agree with this.  I don't know if he's taken a step back in his technique, if he's not fully recovered from his off-season repairs, if there's something else going on we don't know about, or some combination thereof...but using him as a conventional running back appears to be a misuse of his talents and a disservice to the offense as a whole this season.  but in the passing game, he looks like a more lethal weapon than he did last year.  He's still dangerous with the ball in his hands, just not when he has to pick his way through a wall of beef.

How is that? Edwards is averaging just a little more than three yards a carry. He seems noticeably slower and less quick. Corum has been good, but not as explosive as he was before the injury. They’ve played seven games, so there isn’t a lack of sample size. I’m not sure what difference more 4th quarter snaps would make.

You seem like you want to prove that BC is not as good as last year. The number of carries he is getting is not high. It is not like he had explosive plays every play last year. The more you play, the more opportunities you get. May be they want to save him up for a deep run. We will see how he performs vs PSU.

Everyone around here wanted more passing game. Now we got that, we are complaining about our running backs.

This is a very simplistic way to look at it but at first glance, last year he averaged 5.9 YPC, this year he’s averaging 6.0 YPC. Numbers aren’t going to look as gaudy due to how the games have gone, maybe not breaking as many long ones as last year but I don’t have any concern about BC
