UT people are the worst: Gray commit status?

Submitted by MgoFunk on October 26th, 2018 at 9:10 AM

I was listening to 104.5 The Zone out of Nashville on my way into work this morning (I live in Bowling Green, KY) and they had a Tennessee insider on that said in passing that Gray had decommitted.  Did this happen and I just missed it?  I thought he was shaky but still committed currently.

i wasn’t sure how to word the title.

I know enough to not link to an article from a paywalled site, but I think it's ok to provide a synopsis of an article from same? Here are the highlights from yesterday's interview with Gray posted on Vols 247 site this morning re his commitment status (SIAP of course):

  • Says he will make final decision on the first day of the early signing period in December and that its a tough decision.
  • He has visited Tennessee 3 times since September. Has not visited Michigan since his official visit in June.
  • Tennessee's closer proximity to home appeals to him.
  • He and his family like Knoxville.
  • Sounds like playing time may be a consideration as he said Tennessee "needs players" and he is intrigued by the idea of being the only RB in Tennessee's 2019 class as Vols are telling him they are only taking one RB.
  • Says he will take officials to Mississippi and Alabama in December and may visit Mississippi State this weekend (did not indicate if Mississippi State would be an official or unofficial - sounded more like unofficial).
  • He still "hopes" to visit Michigan for Penn State game. He would like to see the game day atmosphere and interact with other commits. He would also would like to experience the weather, i.e., see how cold it is.
  • He says his decision is made tougher because of what he's seen at other schools while he has not been able to visit Michigan since June due to the distance.
  • Said he has remained committed to Michigan because of how he felt during his Michigan visit in June and because of his chats with other Michigan commits and "laughing and joking" with them.
  • He says Jay Harbaugh will be in attendance at his team's game in Memphis tonight.

I doubt he ends up in the class, which is a shame. I am pretty sure during his Army All-American jersey event the other day he was wearing a bunch of UT wristbands.

We will see if he stays with Michigan, but there is a lot of time left until NSD.

Well, last month he said Michigan was winning a "one-horse" race.

Also, hopefully this article from yesterday seems to be positive.

The money section:

Gray committed to Michigan in July, and despite taking official visits to Ole Miss and Tennessee since, he’s still convinced that the Wolverines are the right program for him.

“With Michigan I felt that coach Jay Harbaugh was the best running back coach for me because of the drills and the things he does,” Gray said. “And the homely atmosphere I felt there in June when I was there and campus was empty, I still felt like I was home even though it’s 11 hours away from Memphis. I’ll miss my family, I’ll miss the barbecue.”

He hasn't decommitted. Though Tennessee is pretty confident they can flip him. Michigan is out this week visiting all of their top prospects (committed and uncommitted) so they'll probably drop in to talk to him about his recruitment.

I think it's really important to get Gray back on campus. He was supposed to visit for the Wisconsin game but didn't end up making it. So Michigan should do everything they can to try to get him up here for PSU or Indiana

Hey, I have no idea why someone would decommit from Michigan to go to that dumpster fire of a program, but to each their own. Wish the kid luck either way.

That's highly debatable.  There's no question that choosing BC has enabled him to put up big numbers early in his career, and that may not have happened at M where he'd have been splitting time with other backs.

But if Dillon had gone to M, he'd be still be getting carries and he'd almost certainly be the #1 back heading into 2019 (if he wasn't already--I love Higdon but I honestly can't say how he compares with Dillon).  I don't know how BC's offensive line compares with what Michigan has had in 2017 and this season, bu t I find it very difficult to believe that BC's line over the next couple seasons will be anything close to what he'd have in A2.  And by the time his UM career was over, he'd probably have less wear & tear on his body and thus be potentially more appealing to the NFL.
