Purple Face shares why he left ND for LSU
I found this article on Brian Kelly to be interesting as it gives a little insight as to why he left ND and how the SEC takes their commitment to football to a higher level. The part about having a gourmet chef that travels days ahead of the team was a new spin on the different levels of seriousness that football is down south. Enjoy.
I think he just wanted to dance with recruits more often.
Purple face? I think its more eggplant.
Similarities?
To be fair, I'd bolt for some really good jambalaya and crawfish etouffee, too.
There is a Cajun restaurant near me (north of Atlanta) and the owner is a chef from Louisiana. He cooks up some great food and allowed me to introduce crawfish etouffee to the kids. Also had them eat some gator so they could strengthen their hold at the top of the food chain.
Used to have a cousin that would hunt gator.
They named him after a man of the cloth.
Called him Amos Moses.
Used to eat up his weight in groceries.
I had a friend who was a swimmer for LSU. One Spring break I visited him on campus. He worked at a fancy country club over the summer and became good friends with a worker who was from there. We went to his friends house, and his mom made us the best gumbo I have ever had in my life. Her Creole was so thick, I could barely understand what she was saying. Her son had to interpret for us, but she was extremely hospitable.
"About forty-five minutes southeast of Thibodaux, Louisiana
Lived a man called Doc Millsap and his pretty wife Hannah."
My MAN!
My lyrics on spotify say "Tippytoe Lousiana"
Not far from Cut Off. Home of Michigan Panther championship quarterback Bobby Hebert.
There is a lottery here in Mississippi to award alligator hunting licenses to a small number of people each year. Those who are issued licenses are allowed to take one small and one large gator based on length. All gators taken must be measured to ensure they fit the parameters before they can be killed.
I know several people who have done this. They go out at night, hook gators and pull them up to the boat to measure them. If the gator fits within the specifications, it is dispatched with a gunshot to the head. If the gator is the wrong size, hunters must unhook it and let it go. I say again, if the gator is the wrong size, it must be unhooked and released!
I have not been tempted to join a hunt as of yet.
I have a friend who raises cattle in Florida. Apparently gators are quite the nuisance on the farm at times. He told me when a gator reaches seven feet, it gets hit by lightning. I gave him a puzzled look. "Yeah, it's illegal to shoot them so they get hit by lightning."
gators slip and fall all the time.
in the U.P. we called it 'the three S's - shoot, shovel, and shut up'. that was with nuisance bears. don't talk about it, don't harvest the hide or the meat, put it in a hole and everything is just fine.
My 4th grade gym teacher taught us the Amos Moses. He didn't continue as an elementary gym teacher long.
He later was the strength and conditioning coach for the the University of Washington, the Miami Hurricanes and 30 years for the Miami Heat.
I always laugh wondering if he played the parachute game with Lebron and Wade.
Sang by the great Red Beaulieu.

Money.

This.
More money to BK. More money invested in facilities. More money invested in the program. More money invested in the players (snicker). Fewer restrictions on how that money is spent.
If your goal is winning and winning alone, tough to find a better situation.
He certainly didn't leave out of love for or belief in Notre Dame, its mission, values, or commitment to integrity!
commitment to integrity
Being a Catholic institution, I suspect this is the null set.
Bigotry doesn't make you cool.
I don't think it was just about money. ND had the cash to pay him more, if that was the only sticking point.
I think he legitimately thought it'd be easier to win a national title at LSU. It's located in a more fertile recruiting region and has more generous admissions standards.
Also, there was a faction of the ND fanbase that never liked Kelly. For a guy who inherited a .500 program and turned it into a repeat playoff contender, he was not beloved like you might expect. Off-field issues had a lot to do with that, starting with the death of Declan Sullivan.
Who could have guessed that killing a student would affect your reputation around campus?
I know several good men that played for him at GVSU and they all insist he’s a big time asshole.
I can personally attest to this.
I can't personally verify that but I have heard it for many years from numerous people.
He had to suppress his deep southern accent for 60 years and now little birdy can finally fly
Still one of the funniest things ever. My 7 year old does the imitation perfectly and takes great joy in doing it. It's become his get out of jail free card. Any time he's about to get in trouble, he busts out "Me and my family" with a twang and I crack up every damn time.
"HAHAHA...(deep breath) You're grounded."
Clever kid...
wait until he's a teenager....
Notice how Barney (the purple dinosaur) cleverly frames his personal itch to win a national championship as really about concern for his players.
He said he left ND because players need a personal chef (which ND agreed to) and a dining hall (which ND said he'd get).
Of course, the larger message is that the SEC throws money at football but the reasons Barney gives are as substantial as cotton candy.
They throw lots of resources at the program and don't care about academics or rules. What's not to like if you are a person with zero integrity?
How was he ever a fit at ND? They may not go all in ala SEC but winning is why they kept that asshole around.
I wonder how many 4-8 seasons LSU will tolerate.
One would make things uncomfortable I’m sure.
I've not been to another atmosphere like Tiger Stadium for a football game ever. Those fans are insane. I've been to a handful of Michigan games, including one Ohio St game. I'm not as traveled as a lot of others fans, but I've been to games at Ole Miss, Florida, and Florida St. Nothing is quite like Baton Rouge.
Yes, go on….
it's gotta be something in the flood water.
Bacteria???
I was at Tiger Stadium in 1984 for the ALCS clincher vs KC and it was insane. Will always be > Comerica
Nothing beats likely walking through an open crime scene investigation outside. To eventually make your way into an obstructed seat behind a big blue steel bar, and just hanging out with 8,000 of your closest buddies, in a stadium built to hold 60,000. Cheering like hell for Dan Gladden and Tom Gullickson.
Pure bliss.
I always thought his name was Bill Gullickson. Dude won 20 games. Happy Opening Day everyone.
Well, maybe that's why he didn't like us yelling Tom at him.
Oh and I've got my fingers crossed that the end of your first ever topless woman story ends with, "and her name was ... Pete Incavaglia. And now you know, the rest of the story."
Pete Incaviglia! The guy who said, “people think (sic) make $3 million and $4 million per year. They don’t realize most of us only make $500,000.”
And true story: first time my best friends and I ever saw a woman topless was in the bleachers at Tiger Stadium. during a rainy game featuring a lot of home runs.
Despite being only 10 or 11 years old, we convinced these 20-something yo ladies, who were drinking heavily, to take their tops off and flash us for every home run. There were at least 3 hrs after that and they paid up.
Great memory! When I was a kid my friends and I could get bleacher seats for $1 each if I remember correctly. We used to go to a couple games a week during the summer if they were in town. Back then they played a lot more day games and had real double headers. This was the late 70’s and early 80’s.
We would bring pockets of change and bet on batters (nickel if Champ Summers hits a homer, .25 if Ron LeFlore steals 2nd, etc.) It was fun. You were so far from home plate many plays were over before the sound of the bat cracking the ball reached the cheap seats.
The bleachers were notoriously rowdy back then and parents today would never let their children go alone or with chaperones! we drank a lot of free beer from the friendlies around us, even though we were like 12 years old LOL.
I remember eventually the Tiger brass wanted to get things under control so they only sold low alcohol beer for a season or two, but that was probably after ‘84 though.
Had some buddies that went to opening day when streaking was popular and a streaker attempted to make that run through the outfield and got arrested and cuffed,(behind the back,no fig leaf hand)Ouch.Another game some guys stripped down to their drawers for a couple of innings before they got escorted out. This was back when the bleachers were rough and Hines Park was rockin.
Senior year of high school, a bunch of us went to OD and sat in the center field bleachers. A classmate made the news for throwing a full napkin dispenser at Kenny Lofton. This was the big brouhaha after the strike that had cancelled the previous World Series.
I have but one upvote to give, or you would get 1000 of them.
Dude, at Tiger Stadium, any seat that wasn't obstructed was a good seat. The upper deck was much closer to the action than it is at Comerica Park. There were no problems with the sun in your eyes and the roof protected you from the elements. Ilitch let it go to rot so he could get a new stadium built, but it was always a good place to watch a game.
It was a unique venue. The short porch in right, the deep center field, the flag pole in play, the double-deck all around . . . you could tell looking at a baseball card that the photo had been taken there. Comerica looks just like 20 other stadiums.
All true.
