anyone think Harbaugh would come out throwing with a 15pt lead in the championship? Or any game?

I really enjoy Blantons. Nice choice.

I came to this thread specifically to see what bourbon you might be drinking. Enjoy the next 57 days, I had enough for both of us last night.

Atomic Punk,

reading comprehension is not your thing.

01/01/2019 - 2:18pm Spath may have some kind of …

Spath may have some kind of “source” but most of those tweets are subjective opinion. When Spath says what “seems” to happen it’s unclear if the source is guessing or Spath himself. In either case it’s not a solid piece of news it’s someone’s opinion. Same with his guesses as to what they were doing with Gary in his tweets further down. Unless Gary is his source how could anyone know what he’s thinking?

Lastly the transfer talk:  if Spath (via “source”?) knows of players transferring then that info would be news but simply saying “it will make sense when you think about it” without reporting that something is actually happening is still just a guess and nowhere near journalism.

Michigan State game this year M varied their snap count a lot. After the fiasco a few years ago I watch for that now. Patterson gave several decoy signals during that game too. I didn’t pay enough attention the rest of the season but in that game M was intentionally trying to mess with State’s front 7 on the snap count.

The NYE party I attended had a “Roaring 20s” theme. So I brought a bottle of Old Forrester Prohibition Style 1920 bourbon, an Old Fitzgerald 9 year (vague reference to F. Scott) and a 20 year Pappy (cuz “20”). Enjoyed thoroughly.

I have met him and after a couple hours chatting with him he is a very disgruntled fan. About like everything as far as I can tell.

12/31/2018 - 2:22pm Owen,

I respectfully…

Owen,

I respectfully disagree with your second bullet point. The TEs were not largely eating Perry/Martin/Bell snaps. The TEs + Perry/Martin/Bell were combined keeping 1 or 2 of DPJ/Black/Nico off the field. I recall (so this admittedly anecdotal) many snaps where Perry or Martin were on the field with one of McKeon/Gentry/Eubanks. If you want to give Black/DPJ/Nico a breather then sure that will happen some but I recall it being the dominant formation and if anything Black/DPJ/Nico were the far less used group.

Beyond that, what game would you say Tarik Black really could have used a rest in? I think he needed many more snaps than he played and would still have room for the occasional rest.

12/31/2018 - 11:16am good question OP. Follow up…

good question OP. Follow up questions:

1. Why do we so rarely see Black/DPJ/Nico and so often see Martin/Perry/Bell, and once famously McCurry in place of one or 2 of those 3 when do have 11 personnel?

2. Why was Black blocking on screens to Perry in the bowl (and whiffing) instead of  Perry blocking on screens to Black? One is clearly a better blocker and the other is clearly superior with the ball in his hand.

Hot take connected to this topic:

I’m sure I’m not the only one but hindsight on this season it appears to my very uneducated and inexperienced eye, that the best use of talent would have been Black/Nico outside (yes of course when he was healthy. I know) with DPJ and Evans in the slots and Higdon at RB. Gentry/Eubanks rotating at receiving TE with Mason as blocking guy on the arc reads. Mason might be over-rated but he cannot possibly be a worse blocker than McKeon. I just can’t see why McKeon should play if it means taking DPJ/Evans/Mason off the field because he can’t be the receiving or blocking (Mason) threat those options produce.

TEs are absolutely not ballin’. McKeon is terrible today

I read past the jump specifically to learn more about this game and it wasn’t even mentioned. I really want to know what they were doing.

LongLiveBo,

I also love Home Alone and try to learn as much as I can about it. I am the same age as Kevin McAllister (I was 8 when it came out) and laughed SO HARD in the theatres. Also I worked a few miles from the house for about 6 years.

Excellent choices! My lineup today is Blood Oath 25 yr Rhetoric, Elijah Craig 18, and Weller 107. Plus a “surprise bottle” from a family member. All appropriate for a kids birthday party.

MgoGrendel,

so many memories came up with your post! I miss being a travel ball free agent!

*my Dad was a travel coach’s dream and I’m left-handed so we had no need for shortstop etc etc but I played for all different teams and saw many examples of what you outlined.

I don’t want to speak for anyone but I think he meant hiding it from the players. Not like, “nobody can see it! Where’d it go?!?”

12/07/2018 - 10:31am Mattison is probably still…

Mattison is probably still the best around.

This board makes me feel crazy for wanting to think carefully about if Mattison might be a little past his best days and what the team needs.

Defensive Ends have been recruited well and in Winovich/Paye/Uche/Wormley’s case especially developed well.

Tackles are not a “zero concern” area. Glasgow reached his ceiling or close to it, So did Hurst. it’s  too early to know about Solomon/Dwumfour/Kemp but Solomon seems on track when healthy. There is not “zero concern” about Dwumfour or Kemp as both have a ways to go even compared to Solomon who is close in age. Combine that with Irving-Bey leaving and Jeter being seemingly further away than others and I don’t think it’s crazy to at least consider carefully if this group is on the best path and getting the best guidance even if the answer proves to be, “yes there is nobody better than Mattison”.

never forget!...that hilariously weird post.

12/02/2018 - 1:48pm Shirley you know the idea…

Shirley you know the idea Brown should be fired is extremely difficult to accept at face value after winning 28 games in 3 seasons mostly relying on defense to carry the team.

So what defenses do other top defenses run? What is “the modern college championship defense” and who runs it?

nope. Brian predicted 40-27 on this blog. My family and I were thinking 38+ points would be needed to win. Absolutely people saw the shootout potential in this one. Surely the coaches had to have seen that possibility as well given that M has consistently scored 40+ on teams ranked similar to OSU’s D this year and OSU’s offense has not scored less than 30 at home all season and only once in the past 2 seasons (Oklahoma).

11/26/2018 - 3:08pm Space Coyote,

Space Coyote,

thank you so much for doing this! I am frustrated with the obnoxious attempts at humor and the screaming at the universe and questioning of Hell.

I just want objective analysis of what happened and why it happened and what it means going forward. I really appreciate you doing this and if you want to do further review/analysis I would support it any way I could.

it’s actually Mark Dantonio who is pretty close to Brady Hoke’s record these days.

Brady was 31-21 as HC of Michigan and Dantonio is like 33-19 or 32-20 in his last 52.

I thought last night they showed the 1938 or 1939 team pic but this is the 1937 so my grandfather is not pictured it is my great uncle and he is the 5th one in from the left one row from the top.

Stoller, I think, is 3rd one in from the left in the 2nd from the bottom row with the Fr Coach in the suit furthest left in the row.

The coach in the center is Charlie Hoyt who was legendary.

Arb,

Could we run this with Evans doing the zipper motion and the handoff to Higdon? Runyan could get out to a LB right?

11/12/2018 - 8:34pm similar situation for…

similar situation for Northwestern University. At least when I was there, they were very limited in how many kids admissions would drop for and far fewer could get in as NCAA minimum qualifiers.

For M and NU (and similar) this is for good reason: once the kid is on campus it’s hard to get the degree. I don’t know what it’s like at Michigan but at NU we had nowhere to hide in small classes with no blowoff courses to speak of.

I have often wondered, when M has had classes wash out (“Never Forget” comes to mind) if part of the reason is that said kids had the potential in a vacuum but trying to split attention enough to survive M classes (even with tutoring and office hours) further hampered their ability to put it all together on the field. As alums Harbaugh and Fitzgerald have better sense than Hoke/RR ever could about what type of kid can get the schoolwork done and still be able to grow substantially as a football player.

11/11/2018 - 9:48pm Since you asked, locations…

Since you asked, locations often do get shut down but are run by criminal organizations so closing the doors to one parlor just means they move the women to another location. It’s a lot of work for law enforcement to even get close to these groups let alone prove felonies in court without sending a trafficked woman to prison for prostitution. Plus, if the estimates are correct that it’s a $2.5 billion annual industry in America alone, there’s probably a number of bribes and things making it even harder to prosecute. Best approach thus far seems to be making laws that make it harder to open a small business but obviously that is a whole other set of problems for the economy.

11/11/2018 - 8:10pm Zach is a total mess, doesn…

Zach is a total mess, doesn’t sound like Herman is a good person either.

Quick note on Asian massage parlors: They are the #2 most reported source of human trafficking. According to research from the Polaris Project there are 9,000 known massage parlors that are fronts for human trafficking in the United States. By comparison there are only 8,222 Starbucks locations.

For the $ they make and status they have, Herman and Smith could be cheating with women able to consent, even if they are high end escorts. That it was statistically likely Herman cheated with an imprisoned former sex slave is next level disgusting.
