Hurray for Devin and Chase!

I am surprised that no Mississippi State defenders made the first or second teams. This seems like a snub.

Yes, this was sarcasm. I followed it with the word honestly to indicate that I was no longer being sarcastic.

No, there are thousands of blue chip recruits who would swim through a sea of thumb tacks to play for a big name coach like Ryan Day.

Honestly, coaching transitions rarely help recruiting in the current cycle. Leaving the bulk of the coaching staff in place will likely mitigate any damage. Anything could happen. It is difficult to predict the decisions of 17 year-old boys.

Will there be any kicking of the football?

My son is, indeed, dead. Dark humor helps me cope. The football season, prior to Saturday, had also been a comfort. The Game just felt like piling on.

I am on a run of such bad luck, including burying my 8-year-old son last year, that my wife has concluded that I devoted the entirety of a past life to raping nuns. This year's version of The Game was pretty consistent with the rest of my conscious experience. If the outcome was somehow my fault, I am sorry.

That was my first thought as well. I think your line is a little generous to the Scarlett Knights.

I would imagine they groundskeepers are watering the field tonight for good measure.

11/08/2018 - 9:59am My point was to better…

My point was to better define our rooting interests. The odds of Mississippi State or Auburn beating Alabama are slim but stranger things have happened. Both of those teams have good defenses that are capable of holding Alabama to 30 or fewer points. Neither team has looked all that sharp on offense. They would need some lucky bounces to score enough to win. Slim odds are better than no odds.

11/07/2018 - 12:34pm Right. Many above have…

Right. Many above have stated we should pull for Alabama to go undefeated. It is better for us if Alabama loses before they play Georgia. Root against Alabama in their next 3 games.

If Bama completes the regular season undefeated, the story changes and we want for them to beat Georgia.

11/07/2018 - 11:03am Yes, I logged in to make…

Yes, I logged in to make this point exactly! It is unlikely that Alabama will lose before the SEC Championship Game but want that to happen. We do not want Alabama to win out, we would want an undefeated Alabama to beat a one-loss Georgia.

I will be in Tuscaloosa with the Mississippi State contingent rooting for a Bama loss on Saturday.

10/16/2018 - 5:21pm Yikes, what a time. I was…

Yikes, what a time. I was marginally affiliated with the Wolverine Liberation Army, which disbanded about the time our savior Brady Hoke was hired to coach our team back to relevance.

In 2008, I turned to football to cope with shock and disbelief that my youngest son had been born with a lethal genetic disorder. I had never known a University of Michigan football team to suffer a losing season or miss a bowl game in my, then, 38 years of life. Needless to say, that football season did not provide the relief I sought!

Class of 88 here! Earnie Bach was a 1985 Northville grad who walked on to the football team and played special teams. Have any of our alumni contributed since?

12/19/2017 - 6:13pm Playing for Mullen

So he is going to play for Dan Mullen who, a month ago, was the head coach at his school's arch rival? Strange.

11/30/2017 - 4:51pm AJ Brown...

11/13/2017 - 12:33pm Everybody Injures

Which is interesting because Mississippi State was not bitching about their top 3 receivers not starting the game with injuries or Bama having difficulty running the ball outside until Mississippi State's best safety and a starting inside linebacker left the game with injuries.

Every team is affected by injuries at this point of the season. Some, of course, have more than others. The way Bama recruits, there isn't as much drop off as you find with other teams when you move down the depth chart.

I'm not feeling much pity for Bama!

09/05/2017 - 2:54pm Does Dantonio Have a Vote?

I have to believe he gave his team a vote in the poll.

07/31/2017 - 1:23pm Agreed

He seemed to do a good job of creating/scrambling, but was neither a great passer nor exceptional on designed runs. Alabama did not have much confidence in his passing ability during the playoff games. Fitzgerald ran for nearly 400 more yards on about the same number of carries behind a much worse offensive line.

07/31/2017 - 1:17pm My Bad

I believe he needs to show more on the field before being included on this list.

07/31/2017 - 10:47am Weber or Hurts?

I am not sure who is more overrated. The case has been made for Weber, but I don't get all the Jalen Hurts love. Sure his team wins, but he is surrounded by 5-star talent. For fun, compare Jalen Hurts stats to Nick Fitzgerald and Mississippi State. Both were Redshirt Sophomores. Fitzgerald played behind a subpar offensive line and had better stats that Hurts.

07/29/2017 - 2:28pm I Disagree

Coach Saban needs to send a strong message. Look for him to sit for the entire first half of the Mercer game.

04/19/2017 - 12:34pm Thank you, Sir!

Make-A-Wish is an excellent organization!

Before opening MGoBlog this morning, I phoned my 8 year-old son's physician to request he be transferred to hospice. I, then, came here to get away from my thoughts. I opened and closed my browser three times before deciding to comment. I chose to do it as a reply so as not to hijack the thread.

My son's disorder, junctional epidermolysis bullosa, is painful and progressive. We have spent an average of 14 weeks in the hospital the last four years and attempted a bone marrow transplant in December, 2015. His suffering has reached a point where he would rather have his life end than attempt to continue to grit it out. It is heartbreaking as a parent.

I responded to your post because I want to commend you for being caring enough to help families in our position. The strain of a having a longterm sick child at home is indescribable. It neagtively impacts sleep, family communication, recreation, spiritual pursuits, exercise, travel, finances, and work.

If you know someone with a severe ill child, offer them help. Because life becomes difficult and confusing, they may not know what they need. Be persistent! They will eventually recognize they have needs you can assist them with. We have only survived the last 8 years because of the support of friend, family, and our community.

02/10/2017 - 7:56am For simplicity's sake...

There are 13 potential opponents in the 14 team conference. If we were to do away with divisions, would it not make sense to lock in 3 rivalry games each year (leaving 10 remaining potential opponents), play half of the remaining teams in a given year and the other half the following year. This would allow for a home-home pair of games against every conference opponent every 4 years. It also leaves us one game short of the desired 9 game conference schedule. For final game, teams could play the conference foe who finished closest to them in the conference standings the previous year with the caveat that rematches are avoided.

TL;DR summary: Each year play 3 rivalry games and 5 set opponents (1/2 of remaining teams) plus the team that finished closest in the conference standings with whom you do not have a scheduled game that year.

02/02/2017 - 4:56pm I Look Forward to Meeting Him

The Mississippi State ROTC is coordinating a 5K to raise funds for the EB Research Partnership in support of my son. The race starts and finishes at the football building and I have been told the team will be involved (I am not sure in what capacity). I imagine he will be there. https://www.racesonline.com/events/sprint-with-super-gabe

01/26/2017 - 4:57pm No Word Here in Starkville

I have seen Willie Gay play from the sidelines and he was impressive. My youngest son was the honorary team captain for Starkville High School in their home game against Clinton last year. His play stood out as impressive behind AJ Brown who had multiple 70+ yard TD receptions. I remember him being fast and hitting hard. He always seemed to be around the ball.

My step-daughter will graduate along side Willie Gay this spring. I am a longtime resident of Starkville and have been a member of the Mississippi State University faculty for 14 years. For all of these connections, I have heard nothing and have no insider information. The little bit I have heard from the Mississippi State football program and fans indicates that they hope to land him, but they are not sure of his intentions.

01/25/2017 - 8:03am This!

01/19/2017 - 3:06pm Speight's Injury

took away the deep ball and allowed opposing defenses to collapse and attack the run game. I cannot think of a deep throw downfield after the first half of the Iowa game. If not for this, we would have been competitive in the playoff.

12/05/2016 - 6:48pm Who's playing tonight?

I typed the particulars into webcrawler and came up empty.

12/04/2016 - 8:13pm Motor City Bowl Randy Moss Played In

I remember the Ole Miss band came out at half time and the recorded voice of the band director said they would now play the National Anthem and they lit into Dixie. Confederate flags came out and a group of local got into fist fights in with the Ole Miss fans in the stands. A fun time was had by all.

12/03/2016 - 9:17am I am going to go with...

10-2. I think we will sweep the home slate and lose two close ones on road. One of the losses will be at Iowa, the other will be the result of poor officiating at one of our rivals.

.yes.

12/02/2016 - 11:19pm So

Orange Bowl then?
