07/12/2018 - 1:31pm I upvoted you for …

I upvoted you for "waterboard with cat urine" since I wasn't able to upvote the OP.

07/09/2018 - 1:33pm I am fortunate to be hosted…

I am fortunate to be hosted that day by an old friend who is a ND "fan".   I put fan in quotes, since he grew up in the area, but never professed to be a fan until he moved back to the area recently, in his 40's.  I have taken him to the Big House twice, including The Horror.      And I attended WMU @ Notre Dame in 2010 and he was all Bronco that day.

Glad to be seeing it in person.  I like the history of the place and it's not all that far from home.

07/03/2018 - 10:54am I lived in 2 different dumps…

I lived in 2 different dumps on W Walnut, both of which are still there.   832 in the 95-96 academic year and 814 the following.

07/02/2018 - 3:15pm Since nobody has taken on…

Since nobody has taken on GRAND RAPIDS, MI yet, here goes:

  • Relatively low cost of living.   Came from Chicago for the first 10 years of "adult" life
  • If you like beer, which I do, this is Mecca.
  • We have some world class amenities in what I would otherwise consider a "good small city".   Having some billionaires around that feel its important to benefit West Michigan with the use of their money has worked out well.   No politics.
  • It's a great place to raise kids.
  • A naturally beautiful place to live, lots of waterways, beaches, and golf courses.

  • The Sparty inferiority complex is strong here.   Perhaps that's true everywhere, but it really stands out to me.
  • I would love some more capable public transportation.  I miss that from the aforementioned Chicago years.
06/21/2018 - 10:57pm I have walked to Founders.  …

I have walked to Founders.   Quite an operation.    In my WMU years and since, I have been going to Bell's for over 20 years (gulp).

Come to Grand Rapids.  Get a hotel and an Uber, fergodsakes.   Go to Founders.  It's a temple of beer.  Also go to New Holland's Knickerbocker on Bridge St NW, which is also a beer temple.  Get to the Mitten on Leonard.  Eat the pizza.   Go back to Harmony Hall on Bridge.   More pizza.   Make your way over to Elk Brewing on Wealthy.   Hell yeah.   Then hop skip to Brewery Vivant on Cherry St.   Oh, and we have a Jolly Pumpkin on Bridge also.

Go ahead and split this up over a couple of days.   Somehow squeeze in Perrin north of town on your way out or on your way in or whatever the hell you please.   Just do this.    Chase down the Flying Dutchman if you need more recommendations.

06/12/2018 - 5:01pm I was getting it as well.  …

I was getting it as well.   Glad it's resolved.   It's good to be back.

Any of these guys are one big hit away from season ending injury.

Some of these guys love to compete like this.  I would be most of them think they are better than the next guy.   I bet Peters thinks he's better than Shea and McCaffrey, and that keeps him focused.   Same for the other guys.

Oddly enough, my freshman year roommate (WMU) and long term close friend is the scout for the Rangers that drafted him.

He told me in advance (1 day) that it was going to happen.  I would have posted it here but I didn't believe him.   He's not a M fan (Iowa) so I thought he was just screwing with me.

Apparently he was really good in high school.

Nah.  I'm kind of happy go lucky.     Sorry you can't have your 30 seconds back.

05/09/2018 - 8:59am It's now compulsory to tell

It's now compulsory to tell my own Buck I Guy story here, even though I have certainly told it here before.  Bear with me.

I was taken as a guest to the OSU at MSU game near the end of the 2016 season.  One of those business things where I kind of had to go, but since I'm a sports fan, it's alright.   We actually got to tailgate about 100 feet from the stadium in a group that I was told consisted of close Dantonio relatives, who, much to my surprise, were lovely folks.

The weather was shitty, and I actively hoped both teams would lose, so the perfect outfit for the day was a black golf rain suit.   I didn't look like a fan of anybody, and certainly was the opposite for both squads in the stadium that day.

We get to our very good seats in the front row on the corner of the end zone.   Much to my chagrin, this Buck I Guy piece of shit is about 8 seats to my right.   He clearly enjoys himself, poses for the photos, gets on camera, and evidently really thinks highly of himself.   The game starts.  Etc etc.

Halftime rolls around and our section/rows empty out a bit.  I have nowhere to go and the weather is clearing up, so I'm just kind of standing there for halftime.   As a one-percenter of human largeness at 6'4" 245lbs with square shoulders and not being very old yet, I don't typically draw much attention from people that want to act like dicks.   Never, in fact.  But it's my lucky day.

Somebody (besides me and not to my knowledge) must have done or said something to this narcissistic motherfucker.   I turn in that general direction, and with nobody now occupying the 8 human spaces between us, he is staring directly in to my face, and shaking his head side to side with clear disapproval of something that has nothing to do with me.

After about 10 seconds of just looking back at his dumb ass, I offer him a stern "What?".  He turns away.   I go back to minding my own damn business.

No more than 2 minutes later, I glance that direction again, same circumstance, and here's this dope at it again.   Staring right at me, shaking his dumb face, looking very pissed off.  This time I wait no more than 5 seconds until I offer him a "hey, fuck off" with a delivery where he should know I meant it.

Wisely, he fucks off, and doesn't look my way again.   I could have, and would have gladly midget tossed this POS from his front row seat on to the field, and happily been kicked out of that trash heap of a stadium.  My industry friends, a blend of MSU and Michigan fans, would have been cool with it.   Oh well, opportunity missed.

I know, "cool story bro".

04/29/2018 - 11:57am Yup, they just WOULD NOT TALK

Yup, they just WOULD NOT TALK ABOUT IT.   I get it.   It had to be harrowing.  Now that most of them are gone, however, it's too bad we don't have more personal accounts.

04/29/2018 - 9:45am I thought the same thing...

I thought the same thing... this dude is getting blown out in most of these highlights.

Here's the other thing I saw:   there was some great running around and scrambling and some Manziel-type plays in there.   While exciting, those are the broken plays, of which Michigan's OL will probably allow a few.

But if that can be mostly avoided, it's the more routine stuff we should be gushing about.  The less spectacular clips in the highlights show us some laser like, video game quality shots upfield..   That's how it is supposed to look, and we haven't seen that in a while.

With two really good upperclassmen RB's, two stud sophomore WR's, and a slew of nice blocky catchies, that's what I want to see, is those laser shots upfield.   I don't care if we don't see a single one of these crazy scrambling out-of-the-ass highlights in all of 2018.   If we don't, we may know it's all working.

04/27/2018 - 12:43pm Like many of you, my

Like many of you, my grandfather was one of those guys.    He went across Omaha a bit later (when the beach was "open") than the scenes depicted in Saving Private Ryan, fortunately, so he did not experience that extreme of a situation, and went on to lead a platoon in the Battle of the Bulge, and then live a long productive life in to his 80's.

He was 22 years old that day and had a young son back home.

Saving Private Ryan came out when I was... 22 years old.   I picked up a pretty co-ed from Miami (NTM) and we went and saw it, and we were blown away by the film.  Later we drove out to the beach, had some beers, and probably made out a little bit by the fire.   What a lovely night.

Later I realized the difference between my grandfather's life at 22 and mine, and I just about puked.   Those may be the bravest men in history.

I hope it's an amazing experience for all members of the Michigan football team and staff.

And what other sports blog has conversations going on like this?   Answer - none.

04/26/2018 - 11:55am I was at Western the same

I was at Western the same time as Saddi and had the privilege of a lot of pickup basketball with the team.    Saddi was a damn fine player, and really was a couple bad knees away from likely being a Big Ten player.

The 97-98 Broncos were a lot of fun.   That's the year they beat Clemson in the dance.  I was working at Waldo's at the time, but took the day off, and we nearly burned the place to the ground that day.

04/20/2018 - 1:16pm He will get there someday.

He will get there someday.   Seems like a great kid with an NBA body.   He just lacks NBA polish right now, and all his competition up there would have the NBA body to match.   Go through the motions with intent, gather data, come back to Ann Arbor and be the Big Ten MVP.  Profit.

I got little goose bumps reading the OPs last bit about Austin Hatch.   What an amazing young man.

04/03/2018 - 9:23am My youngest son began 2013

My youngest son began 2013 and 2018 in either the Neonatal ICU or the Pediatric ICU.    Both years I felt like they were playing for him.   The first stay was months, the second only weeks, but in those dark, cold post-New Years Days, my DVR treated me to some Michigan basketball when the shit was sorted out for the day.   Hell on earth medicated by some maize and blue hoops and possibly a drink or two.

Now, I'd like to see Michigan back in the Final Four every year, so we are going to need to break this particular streak, immediately.    Mmk thanks.

03/25/2018 - 10:25am 2 weeks ago I was in town for

2 weeks ago I was in town for a convention. I ignored the convention hotels and found a great budget option about 50 feet off the beaten path of the unique River Walk area. I believe it was called the Riverwalk Plaza at 100 Villita St. Simple and clean but not pretty, but I wasn’t there to hang out in the room.

Wifi was great when I did need to do some work from the room. There is a great little courtyard pool if it gets hot.

You could walk to the Alamodome if the games are there, but not to the place where the Spurs play.

Off days should be spent walking around the King William Historic District and tasting what it has to offer. And for some higher end dining there is a place called Bliss in that general direction.

The Market Square area is stupid. Skip it.

Man Bun cried for a call on nearly every play. His entitlement is enabled by a coach that has been such a prolific breaker of NCAA rules that he shouldn’t be allowed to coach in college anymore.

Steve Lavin will grasp desperately at any story line he can manufacture.

Michigan gets a turnover on the opening tip.   Very rare.   All of a sudden it's like Michigan's turnover numbers tripled.     Lavin is a putz.   He was an average coach at best and he is a less than average commentator.

Two huge missed calls have killed us.

Earlier, Fat Thug Tate got away with an offensive foul and immediately got a 3-pt play.

On the inexplicably reversed baseline out of bounds call, Bates-Diop gets a 3.  There's 6.

Jae-Sean Tate gets to do whatever he wants.

It wouldn't surprise me a bit if the Big Ten office asserted their interest in having a low seeded Ohio St team in a couple weeks.   Can't afford the loss to Michigan here.   The Big Ten is corrupt.

02/14/2018 - 4:44pm In the last 6 months or so,

In the last 6 months or so, an old and close friend of mine has forged a personal friendship with Tom Crean.   My buddy is a pro baseball scout and lives in the Michiana region, and I think the connection is that he has scouted Tom's son as a baseball prospect, or something like that.  But he and Tom hang out (I guess Tom isn't all that busy right now).

Anyway, my buddy is an avowed Hawkeyes fan, so it's not an Indiana/Marquette thing, and he has met pro athletes and coaches all over for the last 20 years.   Tom Crean is one of his favorite people in sports.   It was weird hearing all this after all the grief we give Crean on this site.

I'll see if he has ever met Shark Fucker.
