That seems to be a connection that hasn't been explored yet. One of the advantages of a clock eating, ball control offense is that it reduces the number of plays the defense has to defend and the time they spend on the field. With the personnel loses, this year's defense is not likely to be as strong as last year's. The new offense may put further stress on them.

This year's OL should be the best in many years. Ironically, it may finally be ready to run a power offense.

I will undoubtedly get negatives for this but... I am not looking forward to the time when recruiting depends solely on how much money the alumni are willing to pay prospects for their gear.

I seem to remember that he wanted to play some defense last spring too but he sustained an injury and had to miss sometime. When he recovered there was no time for him time work with the offense and the defense.

“miss the old...CCHA”

The CCHA was nothing! The old WCHA - now that was a hockey league!! North Dakota, Denver, Colorado College, Minnesota-Duluth, Michigan Tech, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan State!!

Oops! Guess I really am getting old!

03/13/2019 - 12:56am The comments on this matter…

The comments on this matter verify the polls that indicate the most people only read or listen to headlines. They don't pother to read the article.

03/13/2019 - 12:53am Did you read the article?…

Did you read the article? There was nothing that indicted any money went to the schools. The money went to coaches who fraudulently verified that otherwise unadmitable applicants were athletes on various teams. There were also test proctors and college administrators who were paid off. But the bottom line is that the applicants whose families paid these people were not athletes and were not actually on the teams. The fraud was committed to the detriment of the universities.

In a couple shots he appeared to be a near twin of Sheldon Cooper.

My recollection of the player's comments on his surprising speed was it was "once he got going". So it was related to a surprising top end not quickness off the line. I never expected him to post a good 40 time.

Thanks!

I enjoyed seeing the interaction between Beilein and Harbaugh. They seem to genuinely like each other. He seems to have established a real friendship with the announcers too. I always thought that the comments about him being hard to get along with were overblown. Anybody know who the big guy sitting next to Harbaugh was?

On another foul during the last couple minutes Poole missed the second free throw after making the first. I remember because it was so surprising. That 1 out of 4 left 5 points on the table. Can't afford to do that very often.

And, so far as I know, it is the only sport that was the key to capturing a fort. (Michilimackinac!)

I don't think that was the problem. I think the problem was that he didn't get admitted to U of Ms engineering school. If that's the case, I can't blame him. He really was determined to study engineering.

Great observation. I remember noticing it at the time but didn't think of it again until you brought it up. If people look at this objectively, they should retract all their complaints about his early time on the bench. Especially in light of the clear need to keep Teske fresh for the later stages of the game.

It seems to me that the Big 10's dominance of this sport may be the greatest dominance of a sport by a single conference ever.

Makes me wonder how college football would have been changed if Nebraska had been admitted to the Big 10 when they applied in 1903.

There's a really unique example at Michigan right now. Julius Welschof .DE and competitive mogul skier!

I've heard it said that the BIG is the most scouted league. I suspect that this is impacting Igy. No one could handle him at the beginning of the season but at this point everybody they play has a good book on him. I think he will need to adapt.

Interesting insight into a contribution Matthews makes to the team that I had not realized. He obviously provides real senior leadership and an aid to communication between the coaches and team.

01/14/2019 - 12:46am Also,  when you see someone …

Also,  when you see someone (on Michigan) complete a successful drive to the basket you'll often see Teske in a position that walls off defenders from being able to contest it at the basket. He is very clever with that.

01/07/2019 - 1:05pm In a way, we might be saying…

In a way, we might be saying the same thing. If he was a high level free throw shooter, he would probably average double digits scoring without scoring any more from the field.

01/07/2019 - 1:54am It might sound a bit odd but…

It might sound a bit odd but having X score more from the field during games is not really necessary. The change that might be the most important would be if X could hit 85% of his free throws. That would mean he could control the ball at the end of tight games without worrying about intentional fouls..

OK - I didn't see him play but: Benny Oosterbaan.

Turned down offers to play pro football and baseball. Started coaching as an assistant immediately after graduation and stayed at UM for the rest of his life.

Bo and Woody had great respect (and affection) for each other. In those days the rivalry was known as not only the fiercest but the cleanest.

I've been around awhile and had the same reaction to the rankings. The missing Big 12 teams jump out at me as does the presence of the ACC teams. I don't remember that conference having such a strong presence.

The sideline reporter said that Solomon also left the game, was taken for treatment, and never returned.

Leave it to OSU to achieve the worst possible outcome for Michigan. Win the game - so Michigan is not guaranteed the East tile - but do it looking as bad as possible so that is minimizes the gain Michigan can gain from beating them.

And who is the only former Michigan fullback in the NFL now? Joe Kerridge!

My recollection is that he is an engineering major. I believe his father was an engineering Phd. Purdue/Michigan make sense. Louisville, not so much.

I think that's it. There was no need to confuse Rutger's staff (more). It was aimed at keeping future opponents (and the press) in the dark.

It's hard to believe but after last year's S & C Evans already outweighs Higdon by 14 lbs!

10/21/2018 - 11:27pm Michigan is going to have to…

Michigan is going to have to convince the selection committee they belong in the top 4. I hate to say this but... beating an undefeated, #2 ranked OSU would have been a lot more valuable than beating an OSU team that has a loss and is not ranked in the top 10.

10/15/2018 - 6:14pm The answer is simple:…

It is possible that his record and test scores qualified him for the Alabama engineering program but not Michigan's. I can't criticize him for having confidence in himself and wanting to prove he could do it. There is no reason to take shots at him.

Since it's been non-contact, probably a muscle pull.

I know it's way too late to have anyone read this comment but still had to mention this about Bennie Oosterbaan. It is mind boggling .

(Sports Illustrated)  named him one of the eleven greatest college football players of the first century of the game (ending in 1968).

During his collegiate athletic career he was a Big Ten batting champion in baseball, Big Ten scoring champion in basketball, and Big Ten touchdown leader in football. He was the first University of Michigan athlete to become a first-team All-American in basketball and the first three-time first-team football All-American. (Wikipedia)

Some of these clips made me realize how much I miss Keith Jackson.

02/23/2018 - 6:32pm Very Weird

ASU also beat Northern Michigan in the first game of the same Las Vegas tournament where they beat Tech! (Must be something in that desert air!)
