Paging those in Houston....

Submitted by Bo Harbaugh on January 7th, 2024 at 8:21 PM

Thank you to those of you going to the game tomorrow and supporting the TEAM.

I'm falling apart and nervous, but I'm there with you in spirit.

Question...What does the breakdown look like in terms of fanbase split thus far?

Will we have the advantage like in the Rose Bowl?

Love you all....Go Blue!

Our flight (from DC) was probably 10:1 Michigan. Rice Village tonight seemed pretty heavily UM over UW, though the pep rally was close by.

Fans of teams that fell short are salty. Two random comments from Rice Village tonight:

”Roll Tide”

”You better watch out, you’re in buckeye territory”

I'd have to think a Texas location would draw more traveling fans from Michigan than ones from Washington.

Not that it would matter too much here, but I'd also expect the Michigan alum base in Texas to be bigger than Washington's.

EDIT: If you're in Houston for the game, please make some noise tomorrow night! :)

In my time as an alum, I've watched Michigan lose the national championship in basketball twice, in baseball, in hockey, in softball. I may even be missing one. But the gymnastics team broke through! I'm confident in the team and their intense drive to finish it off right and believe Michigan will win by two touchdowns. I was certain Michigan would beat Alabama simply because Michigan was the better if not more talented team and had shown that all season. Washington has the worst defense Michigan has seen in a while. Penix and the WRs are great, but UDub can't run the ball consistently. Michigan has already played and beat a team like that three years in a row, and OSU has a much better defense. I'll get nervous around gametime, but I'm chill now.

On the plane and in the airport it was heavy heavy Michigan. But I started seeing more Washington fans once we were in town. Still more Michigan by a lot but... It's also hard to feel yet because so many flights were screwed up and people are flying in later today and tomorrow

Went to Fan Fest tonight at the convention center. Seemed like 50% Michigan fans, 25% UW fans, and 25% locals who just wanted to have a fun time at the event.

Honestly I felt like the fan fest was pretty even, but in waves. We were there when it opened at 10am CT, and it was heavy maize and blue for hours. It was actually amusing to see the lines for each team at various exhibits or when shopping for gear.

But, honestly the amount of purple continued to climb all day, and then it was at least 50/50 in my opinion by about 1pm CT.

I’m one of the Houston locals in my UM gear, but I’d say late afternoon saw a large amount of other UM fans leave the building. I attribute it to time zones… based on “belly time” the West Coasters were just out of lunch while I’m sure lots of UM fans were ready to figure out tonight’s dinner before tomorrow’s feast!!!

I have been in a number of different areas, and it’s been heavily Michigan every place I have been. I can’t believe anyone is saying it’s 50-50. I haven’t seen numbers remotely close to that. I actually felt sorry for 2 Washington fans in my hotel lobby today who were trying to make their way through a crowd of Michigan fans. Saw another guy walking by himself wearing a UW jacket who seemed to be amaized that there were so many Michigan fans walking past him.

It was 95% Michigan fans going through ATL yesterday but we spent the day in Houston today and at the Space Museum. The restaurant we went to tonight was probably 50/50 split.  Feels more like 55-45 in Michigan’s favor overall, so lots more Washington fans out than I would have thought but they’re still outnumbered slightly.

All the Washington fans I’ve met are really nice, knowledgeable, and love football.

At Hobby it was mostly Mich with some Wash. Our hotel seems to be all Mich, at least those we've seen. Our Uber driver on the way to dinner said his passengers were 50-50. The manager of the restaurant who stopped by to greet us told us it was about 90-10 Mich. He may have been telling us what we wanted to hear, but we only saw one W shirt and that was in a large table surrounded by M's.

I wonder how many from the Pacific Northwest are unable to get here because of the Boeing shutdown. A classmate who lives in Portland said if he'd bought tickets he'd have been stuck at home because flights on United, the only airline with nonstop flights from there, are grounded.

As with the OSU game I'll be at home watching in the same threadbare longsleeve tee I watched 30-24 in, chewing off my fingernails

Since I'm too cheap and socially maladjusted to make the trip, I'm counting on you MGoDegenerates in Houston to cheer so damn loud that I can hear you two time zones away even with my TV muted.

Go Blue.

Bet.

It feels like walking around California. Probably 4 or 5:1 Michigan fans.

In the stadium, Rose Bowl felt like 60:40 M to Bama. Hoping tomorrow is even more Michigan.

I will be losing my damn mind and liyd as hell. I will be in the Blue so you can find me.

Arrived earlier today.  Been out and about at a restaurant, my hotel, a couple bars and walked the streets.  I’m thinking  maybe 65-70 percent michigan.  I expect about 2/3 of the stadium to be Michigan tomorrow.

It's been hard to tell, since people seem to be separated by where events are. Walking around Rice it was all Michigan, but I was at the fan experience in the convention center when Washington's band happened to be playing and it was all Washington - thousands of people. Hope we have more tomorrow
