Pretty sure Kaep is gone from SF considering they benched him for Blaine Gabbert.

Or Cleveland, a team with a mobile QB and a team he was in legitimate talks with about the coaching job before he took the Eagles job. So much so that it was even reported the job was his. He'll land another NFL job, either TN, Cle, or SF.

That's where the spread really excels and you have the best shot of 'out-talenting' your opponent. Every NFL job is just a ticking clock towards your inevitable firing unless you're one of the fortunate few who can survive
Deal with that, or return to college and make basically the same amount of money with way more job security?

Wouldn't be surprised if he came back to college...but what big jobs have yet to even be filled yet?

...is a surprise to no one. If they wanted Kelly and thought they could land him, they would have held off on the hire.

He missed that in his edit.

They won't even let him coach the last game. That is some bad blood right there.
December 29th, 2015 at 7:28 PM ^
Nothing good is open right now unless he can get an NFL job when 1/3 of the league fires their coach.
He'll get any college job he wants after next year if he sits a year and works for ESPN.
December 29th, 2015 at 7:30 PM ^
December 29th, 2015 at 7:31 PM ^
Which is why I said he needs to sit a year and pick the best one next year.
December 30th, 2015 at 10:15 AM ^
While I think he could do better the Penn State job could be open next year. That would make for a truly brutal division

I''m guessing he wants some control over player personnel in the NFL, even though Chip the GM probably cost Chip the Coach his job. I'm wondering if any owners would give him the player control he would like, and at the same time wondering if Kelly would go somewhere to just be the coach.

I would guess Texas backs up the armored truck to the Kelly residence and bids adieu to Charlie Strong.

The main question is how would it look to the Texas donor base?

I'm sure there are a few teams/GM's out there who wouldnt mind going 10-6 in back to back years.

but they hired Rex Ryan so maybe building a good organization isn't their strong suit
December 29th, 2015 at 7:40 PM ^
- Texas
- LSU if Miles struggles again
- Penn St. (that feels like a match made in college football Heaven - the B1G East would be incredible)
- Notre Dame if Brian Kelly leaves for the NFL
- UCLA if Mora's seat gets hot and he bolts for the NFL
- Florida St. if Jimbo goes to Texas or LSU
Any other realistic scenarios for top schools? Let's be real, he's going to get a top job in college next year if he waits. He's not going to a UVA or Maryland type.

But I suppose you're right if they were AWFUL. But would you really fire a coach in year 1? Whew, that would be tough --- it's not the NFL. That would be a terrible look, especially if Kelly turned them down.
But never put anything past Pat Haden at USC.
December 29th, 2015 at 8:05 PM ^
Yeah, I just threw it out there for the pure speculation of it. Pat Haden at the helm does make it more of an actual thought though lol...

You think a bunch of grown men are going to take Kelly's little purple faced tantrum's? He'd lose his lockerroom before the pre-season started. Purple face would be sulking back to the college ranks within 24 months of being hired

Well, if you consider hiring Will Muschamp filling a head coaching position, then yes it has. If not, then perhaps there is some way for Chip Kelly to head to South Carolina so that Gamecocks fans could be assured that this has simply been some collective nightmare.

I'd love to see him at Purdue. I don't know why, I just feel like it'd be hilarious.
December 29th, 2015 at 7:38 PM ^
Idiot Joey Galloway thinks Kelly will stay in NFL.
Don't think so, Joey. Kelly is a great college coach. He will have his pick of jobs next year.
December 29th, 2015 at 7:43 PM ^
I wouldn't be so quick...people said the same about Harbaugh in college.
The Tennessee Titans have nothing to lose by bringing in Kelly to coach Mariota.
