Not OT: shout out to Seth

Submitted by WindyCityBlue on July 27th, 2022 at 7:38 PM

After today’s post, which was absolutely fire, I wanted to give a big shout out to Seth. I know he’s shouldering a lot with Brian take a smaller role.

Seth is absolutely crushing it on the on content side, and I don’t want that to go unnoticed or unappreciated.

"Seth Lord" was the name of the character played by actor John Halliday in the 1940 film "The Philadelphia Story," opposite Katherine Hepburn.

Hey, if we're making movie references, I thought I'd make mine a little more obscure.

The quality of content by the main providers on here is really outstanding.  You add in that it is a free site and it really is unique in the sports blog world.  Brian, Seth, and Alex all bring high level writing and analysis.

For any negative the site has the positive outweigh it.  At least in my opinion.

Yes. I regret to remember that I used to lament the outsourcing of writing beyond Brian, because I so valued his style and wit (back when he was at his peak). But I should have known better than to think of these** as fixed traits (**writing styles or having "it" as a CFB content provider). Seth's value has grown immensely, and I have to believe it's because he's put in his 10,000 hours  (/malcolm-gladwell).

Bravo, Seth!

Seth used to write with so many inside jokes that he was hard to follow at times (for me). I couldn’t keep up with the references and used to skip his articles because of it. Today, he still infuses his writing with his personality and humor but does so that layman can follow.

Seth, your writing and effort/thoroughness is second to none and so much appreciated. Hope you get get some time off and enjoy your summer a bit.

Hear hear. Agreed.

I remember back when Seth was more like third or fourth banana on this site behind Brian, Ace, and maybe even Heiko. Now he is THE BANANA. It has been quite a transformation for sure.

As many have noted, we are lucky to have him here.

Thirteenthed(sp?)

Seth, Alex, and MattEM have carried the torch beautifully while Brain works through the maze(maize?) that is life.

Full disclosure: When Brian stepped away, and Ace leaving (I was always "meh" on him despite him being such a polarizing figure) I worried that MGo would go the way that EDSBS did when Spencer "left." But despite missing Brian's insight, the site has maintained it's content integrity and quality.

And yes, there may be brown stuff on my nose.

Log me in as part of the Seth Appreciation Team.  Big fan here.  Thanks for your hard work, Seth!  I can't offer much in return, but....plum bread maybe?  I make a mean plum bread.

I can appreciate this site and Seth much more now that we beat OSU.

I was an insufferable piece of shit during the losing streak, and the robbery in Columbus in 2016 basically broke anything amicable that remained in my sports fandom soul.

42-27 was so cathartic that I no longer hate you all. A win in Columbus this year and a National Title appearance…let’s just say I might love you all again and be insufferable to rival fanbases instead.

I’ve probably rewatched the game and/or highlights from it at least 30 times now- gift that keeps on giving!

The only face to face dealings I’ve had with mgoPeople, other than a short meet’n’greet with Brian to autograph a couple of HTTVs, has been with Seth. In every instance, he’s been really nice, down to earth, and effective in helping. Good for you, sir, and I would love to have people remember me in those terms.

Seth is indeed amazing. I love the dude as a writer, an analyst and a person.  He is the glue that keeps this place together.  I consider him a friend even though we've only met once.

Except for Draftegeddon.  That pretty much negates everything.....😉

I don’t remember exactly when but there was a turning point when I no longer wanted to read only Brian’s work but also wanted to read Seth’s as well. I like a lot of Brian’s columns especially UV. But I’m really glad Seth does UFR now. Certain aspects of this blog have really elevated and Seth clearly has a lot to do with that.

John U. Bacon has for many years described college football as religion. Michigan football is my religion and I’m thrilled that Seth treats it with the seriousness and depth that requires.

I do really miss, “This Week in Schadenfreude” that was all the college football humor I wanted in a week.

You’re goddamned right!

Seth has been doing so much work, it’s a wonder he hasn’t burnt out.

He also did a very kind and completely out of the blue thing for me last year and I hope he knows I haven’t forgotten

Personally, I'm ecstatic that it was Ace that 'left', and not Seth.  I've always appreciated Seth's take on football far more than Ace's, and believe Seth has a far deeper knowledge base than Ace ever will.  Honestly, I think Seth's football base is deeper than Ace's basketball depth...  I also never liked the way that Brian and Ace ganged up on him during the podcasts.  Now that Ace is gone, he may still be Brian's bestie but Seth has the space to shine - and his shine is way brighter than Ace's ever was.

Ace confused fact and opinion. To the point that if someone had a different opinion that person was “wrong” and if the person continued in their opinion, they were not just a person who was wrong, but a “bad person”.

2014 Ace was funny and knowledgeable and I enjoyed him on the podcast. Somewhere along the way, foot ball opinions became like political thought. There was a sense of an “other” within the Michigan fan base. IDK. The site is still coo.

The Internet was invented so we could have MGoBlog.

Big thanks to Brian for creating the site and inventing UFR! Thanks to Seth for jumping in and keeping MGoBlog the best place on the web! Alex, you are in some fine company!
