Michigan should get the banhammer for this! Clearly there is something amok with cheeseburgers or grainy iPhone footage that baited poor Kentucky and the ESS EEE SEE into "tampering."
Rod Moore has been one of my favorite Michigan players ever since his freshman year. Check my posting history from 2-3 years ago (but don't b/c it's a waste of your time) to see me predict he'd be an All-American. It really grinds my gears that he got hurt because otherwise this is in the running for maybe the best all-time Michigan defense. And that's saying A LOT. I still think it's a way above average defense, and probably top 5-10 nationally but we'll sure miss Rod quarterbacking it.
I had been checked out on UM hoops since the Diabate/Houstan future-lottery-pick recruiting method resulted in a very meh team. Thankfully, that saved me from watching last season's car wreck of a team.
At the same time, I consider next year's squad "must watch" if for no other reason than I'm positively titillated about how all these new players will fit together--what kind of team might result from that? I have zero expectations beyond "play hard and compete, hopefully be watchable."
I was thinking Texas was the 2024 season opener, but we actually have Fresno State the weekend before. I think we'll probably see QB 1a get the 1st half of that game and QB 1b get the 2nd half. Hopefully we'll have the right guy for hosting the Longhorns (and treating Sark's team very inhospitably). Arkansas State comes in the week after Texas, right before hosting USC, so that presents another option to move some pieces around. Even with the difficult nu skool B1G schedule, starting off with 5 straight home games will be helpful for this team to gain experience and find their footing.
I don't want to badmouth Denard, but this is getting (or is already past) comical how Michigan Football just cannot stop shooting itself in the dick with incidents like these. Let's get it together and not do stupid things, folks, deal?
I bet the loosey goosey Harbaugh has quite a bit to do with a 100% focus on football (less whatever time he's spending on the chickens). I don't think he misses NIL/portal/recruiting etc. Maybe he misses recruiting a little bit, because he likes meeting the players' folks, but there's a lot of crap that comes along with running an elite NCAAF program that you just don't deal with in the NFL.
I've gotten into running more recently and have started running in races (not super seriously). Did my first trail run last fall and I found that to be significantly more difficult than road running. And that was with pretty minimal elevation gains. What these folks are attempting/accomplishing is just a triumph of the human body, perseverance, and something I can't quite even really fathom.
I like how they call completing *only* 3 laps in < 40 hours a "fun run."
So, uh, the S.S. Medved is currently taking on water after shooting 29% in a 12-point loss to Texas earlier today. The silver lining is they outscored Texas in the second half after putting up an abysmal 11 points in the first half (team didn't quit). I'd say that performance roughly cancels out the impressive 25-point shellacking of UVA, so we're back to where we started. Which is nowhere.
Impressive interview. His answer on Mike Hart was the shortest, so I'm guessing that was the strangest situation Sherrone has faced so far as HC. Good to hear that the players are taking to Wink Martindale. Also cool how informative Coach Moore is whereas Coach Harbaugh speaks more in metaphors and just trying to name-drop everybody.
We've seen that Coach Moore can build an offensive line and a gameplan, but it remains to be seen how he architects an entire program. I am really hoping he succeeds and I think he's got a good shot.
Stopped in to see the MJ/White Sox references and was not disappointed.
I do feel, with the benefit of having absolutely no insider knowledge at all, this feels like the translator is Ohtani's errand boy and is now falling on his sword to protect the meal ticket. If so, this could be pretty huge. If not, it'll still be at least a medium-sized story.
I also think the normalization/legalization of sports gambling is going to go not very well for thousands of folks. Lots of addiction and lots of human toll as we continue to be bombarded with Fan Duel/Draft Kings ads, or betting inside the stadia. I would love to see THE DON absolutely go off this season. I'm talking challenge some of Barry Sanders' records, no-doubt-Heisman shit. That's what I'd like to see. He waited his turn. He did some growing up. Now's his time to really shine after flashing his skill set in previous years.
This is also a good reminder that Juwan Howard's story is not yet fully written. Yes, things didn't work out here for him as the MBB head coach, but he could still become a very good head coach (NBA or college) and use this as a learning experience.
