This article is full of some great quotes from new OSU RB coach, Carlos Locklyn, which make him seem like a great match for Coach Day. Here's some highlights including how players are "soft cookies" for entering the portal, but he's not for leaving Oregon and how he doesn't like to be called his first name:

I’ve been called everything but a child of God by the people back at the other place that I just left,” Locklyn said. “I’m telling you, if I let you in my DMs, there’s some great comedians out here that are sending me tons of cookies. It’s funny.”

“I tell kids all the time, I don’t coach soft-batch cookies,” Locklyn said then. “If you a soft-batch cookie you got to get away from around me. And they got a bakery for that, guess what it’s called? The transfer portal.”

“The soft-batch cookie thing came from just having the frame of mind, a mental toughness,” Locklyn said on Wednesday at Ohio State. “It had nothing to do with guys getting in the portal or anything. Now most people will say I’m a soft-batch cookie for leaving there, but in actuality, I’m not. It takes great strength to make the decision to leave a place. A weak-minded person wouldn’t be able to make the decisions that I make. It took great strength to do that.”

I prefer to be called Lock,” Locklyn said. “I know coach Lanning would call me — I thought maybe trying to take a shot at me every now and then while I was out there at Oregon — he called me Carlos. But I prefer to be called coach Lock.”

You also may realize the irony of Locklyn now coaching Quinshon Judkins, who by his own definition would be a "soft cookie"

Wow.  There is a LOT to unpack there.

Sounds like he will fit in nicely in Columbus.

They are clearly NOT building the same type of culture we are seeing in Ann Arbor.

They might win a lot this coming season due to the stockpile of talent, but I don't think they are building a sustainable program.

The one thing that stands out is that he mentions being called out/insulted by everyone at the other places he left. I don't know if he meant that there are just some disgruntled fans who will always criticize coaches for leaving or if it's his thing to leave his previous jobs with some level of controversy, but it doesn't sound good.

That said, the fact that he read and quoted Tressel's book does show some initiative and sucking up (as an "elite relationship builder").

All OSU and most casual fans as well. To be honest if you cant win 25% of your games vs a team you absolutely destroy in recruiting and the offseason wtf are you doing? They cant lose this year. They will never recover. They think we lost everyone. In their minds we are as bad as we were post covid. Good god the fore play is almost too much to handle.

I didn't click the link, only read the quotes in the OP. These are some weird quotes and I don't want to defend the guy but I don't take his quote to mean anyone who enters the transfer portal is a "soft batch cookie."

He says "if you're a soft batch cookie, get away from around me" and then goes into the bit about the transfer portal. I take that is him saying if you're a soft batch cookie then it's time to hit the transfer portal and "get away from around me."

I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong. Either way this dude seems a bit odd.

This is just weird.

And what the hell is wrong with a soft-batch cookie anyway?  I like the warm soft cookies I get at the front counter when I check into my room at a Doubletree.

It's going to be so interesting watching OSU next year try to deal with immense pressure and expectations being helmed by a lot of guys who seemingly have the thinnest skin in the game.  Just...nothing shows how Not Mad you are quite like saying you leaving a program for a better opportunity is because you are mentally tough, unlike other players who do it because they can't handle adversity.

At the Woody Hayes Athletic Center

REPORTER: Coach Locklyn - may I call you Carl...

LOCKLYN: No you may not.

REPORTER:  So, first week of practice.  Talk us through what you've seen from the running backs.

LOCKLYN: Well, just lots of talent in the room and just night and day from what I had to work with at That Team ut West.  I'm excited to be here and put all that behind me and show everyone that actually I'm also a sensitive and highly well-endowed lover who centers the pleasure of my partner first and foremost and I've heard nothing but praise from all of them.
