Mr. Ray? As in James Earl Ray, who was convicted for assassinating MLK? Honest mistake, I’m sure, but that’s some unfortunate timing.

Hill had a 3.9 GPA at one of the most academically rigorous high schools in the state. I’m pretty sure he cares about academics.  Wishing him well.

What a loss for us. She was fantastic - she knew all 500 of us by name, could make miracles out of debacles and saved my bacon more than once. As Bando mentioned, she was the first person many of us met in the MMB, and she set the tone of professionalism immediately, from the first day of camp in the sweltering August sun. She had deep institutional knowledge and was fun to talk to. Condolences to her personal family and to our MMB family, and a warm and hearty thank you to her.

#75 was Jarvis  who was fine. I believe you meant #72, Stepiniak, who had at least 4 dirty plays.

That was mentioned by another poster, not by anyone on staff, and seemingly incorrectly at that. I definitely don't remember any insta-pressures.

Inside 25, yes. No kick was > 34 yards. But they were true and that's what matters.

Also, excellent description and usage of "whamma jamma mojo lean"!

Most people on this board enjoy Gus's enthusiasm, myself included. Plus, tasty doses of Detroit and Michigan homer love.

11/16/2018 - 6:08am IIRC, Milton had 3 guys in…

IIRC, Milton had 3 guys in his face a second after the snap, escaped one sack attempt, couldn't immediately find anyone open and (probably wisely) just took the sack to keep the clock moving.

11/15/2018 - 10:32am Hawkins is also a RS…

Hawkins is also a RS freshman safety. Underclassmen safeties usually aren't very good, unless they are 5 star athletes. He'll get much better.

Edit: I think he's a true sophomore. He played ST a lot last year.

11/15/2018 - 7:14am Agreed. His feet were…

Agreed. His feet were outside of the protected area and he established position for a full beat before contact.

As much as Brazdeikis's defense was impressive (and welcomed), Simpson is probably the best defender in the country and showed it tonight. Livers plays like Shane Battier, a glue guy - knows everyone's assignments and keeps the flow going. Teske moves his feet really, really well. Matthews's decision making was great, often passing up open 3s (not his forte) for high % midrange and drives.

Fantastic suggestion re: Ron Johnson. Very good OP suggestion of Carter and Wangler.

Milton did not play in the ND game.

11/11/2018 - 1:59pm Milton did the smart thing…

Milton did the smart thing on 3rd and 7, up by 35: take the sack and let the clock run. He was immediately pressured, muscled out of it, and decided not to throw when there were no options (and not just throw OOB and stop the clock). The game might be fast for him, but that play wasn't evidence of it.

11/11/2018 - 12:59pm Great work! I swear I would…

Great work! I swear I would like this diary even if it didn't support my proclamation that Onwenu deserves a dangerman star more than anyone on the OL. Don't get me wrong: I'm as excited as anyone about Runyan's mid-season improvement, and the whole line's progress should be celebrated (hail Warinner), but I think Onwenu has been our best lineman this year. He corrects mistakes from fellow linemates and TEs on his pulls, almost invariably picks up twists and stunts, has been excellent in pass pro, and regularly deposits DTs 3 yards downfield. He's All B1G, in my meaningless opinion.

11/07/2018 - 10:09am I feel like Livers looked…

I feel like Livers looked like this before his ankle injury last year, and that he has a more complete game than he's given credit for. He does do many small things well off the ball, as does Teske.

11/06/2018 - 1:35pm He flipped the ball to the…

He flipped the ball to the referee after his touchdowns, Barry Sanders-style. Very efficient in his path to the QB. Seems like a really self-possessed young man with a classy but ferocious game.

11/05/2018 - 3:41pm Poor Savannah State. Aren't…

Poor Savannah State. Aren't they also the only team that has more than one rutger?

11/05/2018 - 1:59pm I'm happy to see Runyan's…

I'm happy to see Runyan's ascent to solid player, but I'm a little confused by something. If Michigan is so left-handed running, why do Runyan and Bredeson have comparatively low UFR amplitudes? Ruiz and the right side of the line frequently seems to be turning in and sealing off some poor DE or blowing a DT off the ball. Are Runyan and Bredeson doing something more subtle?

Also, I thought for sure that the Epic Double Bird would be McCaffery's collarbone fracture.

Agreed. Understandable the first time. Unacceptable the second time and beyond.

Can I safely assume you're joking?

That WR is Martin, a RS freshman. He's turned upfield (never turn upfield). He'll learn.

10/11/2018 - 9:31am I'm not so sure about that…

I'm not so sure about that. Linemen hit a player every play. That's a commonly cited reason for why their CTE rates are highest. Also, mass x acceleration would argue that a DT/OL collision involves larger forces.

10/07/2018 - 10:55am Devin Gardner frequently…

Devin Gardner frequently deployed the whirly-bird when he first became a starter. It's exciting to see another player with the peripheral vision and athleticism to be able to do it.

10/06/2018 - 9:31pm His last pressure escape…

His last pressure escape move to extend the play was very reminiscent of Devin Gardner from 2012 and early 2013 (before Gardner had to run for his life every other play).

10/06/2018 - 9:24pm On the stuffed 4th and 1…

On the stuffed 4th and 1 play we ran behind Runyan, who got rocked back and is probably the least capable of the 5 OL to drive someone off the LOS (not incapable, just less so than the other four). Meanwhile, Onwenu and JBB flattened their guys. Short runs to the R side A and B gaps were more common after that.

09/16/2018 - 9:50am "And the offense was able to…

"And the offense was able to stay in rhythm, stay with the omentum they were creating."

That's our secret - the players have digested this playbook and fattened up this offense, so we can gut out a win anytime.

09/13/2018 - 6:32am Denard's first pass as a…

Denard's first pass as a starter in 2010 looked exactly like that. He turned 90 degrees, pump faked the bubble and threw to a very open Roundtree across the middle.

09/01/2018 - 11:26pm 1. We overpursued and…

1. We overpursued and vacated so many rush lanes on speed rushes to try to get to a poor passer (I realize you can't just let him sit there). That did get corrected with quicker speed to power redirections, but not until a lot of damage was done.

2. ND wide receivers blocked very well, and the plays ensured they had a hat on a hat, and that their runners went to the correct side of their blocks so they picked up 10 yards instead of 3. Contrast that with our screens, which had decent blocking, but often had runs to the wrong side of their blocks.

3. Despite not coming up with the pick, I thought Hawkins looked really good. Dwumfour was Mo Hurst 2015 when he was getting moved by doubles. I saw Uche on downfield coverage on a TE at least 3 times.

Best comment this week.  We will cheer when the physical specimen Milton (who should really be a WR) uses his God-given natural athletic talent to get the ball to the heady, cerebral, scrappy Martin.

Amen to that!  I'm surprised that more recruits don't try to include even just 1 or 2 examples of "recognition plays" where they pick up a stunt, make a block on the edge, etc.  I assume recruiting coaches must have access to much more video.

04/16/2018 - 3:04pm Transition D vs OREB

With both Livers and Teske having high OREB rates, do you all think we will see an increased offensive rebounding focus, or do you think we will keep up the D.E.T.R.O.I.T. (Don't Even Try Running Out in Transition) defense?

03/16/2018 - 5:33am As well as to The Man Down

As well as to The Man Down the Hall, from the same thread:

"Game starts.  Michigan is rusty as hell as they have only played scrimmages against each other for 2 weeks and that doesn't keep the rust from hitting.  They fall behind and struggle early and through the first half.  The MGoBlog open thread is full of F-bombs and screaming at Delaney as we panic and start wailing to the world and bargaining our first born to the devil for a win."

Yeah, given the conflict is between two Louisiana teams, the title should read "Game between LSU and ULL gets real spicy-like."
