CJ Stroud claims Michigan kept him from winning the Heisman twice
Title says a lot.
No gold pants and no Heismans.
Go blue.

Good!
Gosh, I hope this doesn't mean he chokes on bile for a very long time into the future.
Hopefully he doesn't hold a grudge for a long, long time or anything.
Agreed, now him and Peyton Manning have something to talk about in the Heisman runner-up house.
Oh…Peyton isn’t in the Heisman house?
How come?
This is a hilarious story! Also, perhaps a back-handed and unintentional compliment!
Go Blue!
It could be argued that a lopsided B1G put him in the position of a pretender to the throne, and that it was therefore inevitable that he fall back to Earth when playing the only other good team.
Delicious
he's not wrong
He's wrong. I probably agree with him about last year's Heisman - he probably would have won it with a win over Michigan but not two years ago. He's full of shit
Nah, he had a shot two years ago as well. Bryce Young wasn't a slam dunk until Michigan beat Ohio State, and Young basically carried Alabama to a come-from-behind win over Auburn in primetime that same day. If the Buckeyes had won The Game that year, CCG would have been the difference maker between the two of them.
Poor baby LOLOLOL
Dude, common. It was cold
Pretty sure he was just allergic to the Heisman.
....and he had the flu. The Blue Flu!
Thoughts and prayers.
I hope he meant it as a compliment.
Whether he meant it or not, I think we'll all take it as one.
This is the way it should be. Adds so much spice to the rivalry.
I think it was his play that kept him from winning the Heisman
Actually, tbh, he was pretty good in both games. He has an amazing touch and can drop a pass into a tiny window. Think about the Sainristil play - if the TE is more athletic and goes up and grabs the ball with authority, it's an amazing touchdown. The fact that we beat him twice is awesome; the fact that he played WELL and we beat him twice is even better.
I think passing yards is the biggest misleading stat in the game. He had two picks and his NFL loaded roster had 23 points. That is an absolute disaster. Hokes teams could score 23 points during their worst stretches. Playing from behind makes the numbers look good, much like JJ vs TCU, but much like that game those two picks made it hard to overcome. Honestly that entire offense should be embarrassed after what TCU did to us.
Hoke’s worst stretches were M00N and 27 for 27. But they did still show up and score at least 21 in at least 3 of Hoke’s OSU games.
I hope Stroud thinks about that.
Based on his stats alone, sure, he had a decent game. But he couldn't make the clutch plays when he needed to. I would like to think our defense had a little bit to do with that, but zero touchdown passes in the second half is not a good look.
If he wants to blame someone for not winning the Heisman, how about start with his coaches who didn't prepare the team well, or his teammates who quit trying when Michigan punched them in the mouth.
And we are proud of it!!!!
Probably why this is the best rivalry in sports, I do think Boston-New York comes close, when those teams are good, their games, especially in the playoffs, can be intense, but OSU-UM typically happens once so there's a finality there, now of course, they could meet in the playoffs.
Baseball is a game, not a sport
Golf is a game, baseball is a sport. If you can play defense at the same time that your opponent is playing offense, it’s a sport. That is to say, if you can counteract your opponent in real time, it’s more than just a game. I would like to see a no-holds barred golf match though. Would require beskar armor though.
If you can play defense at the same time that your opponent is playing offense, it’s a sport.
What's track and field then?
Wrestling?
Swimming?
Diving?
Are those games too?
I've always felt the same way as Tunneler. I don't classify the sports you mentioned as games, more competitions. They require athletic ability, practice to hone your skills, and dedication just like baseball, football, hockey, etc. But I think any sport where you actively compete against the other person, they are on offense and you on defense and vice versa, is a cut above. If you're watching the other person do their thing you've lost control of half of the competition. This is especially true in the case of judges. Not only do you have no control over your opponent's activities, you're at the mercy of a 3rd party. And we've had plenty of evidence over the years of judges not being impartial.
As to your listed sports, I don't know why wrestling is there. That is 1v1 physical combat. It does have judges and can be corrupt at times but you always have the opportunity to win without judges, same as boxing and mma. It would be to compete until someone wins, but we don't want people to die.
Track and field is a different breed. You lose the ability to physically defend your opponent but you are competing alongside them. The Sprinters and long distance runners are usually running at the same time as their competition and know what they have to do to win. There is no nuance, best time wins. The other events don't have direct competition but when throwing the javelin I know what my competition has done to that point and what I have to do. No judges, just how far can I throw it.
Swimming is the same as sprinting. You know what's going on around you for the most part and what you have to do.
As to your listed sports, I don't know why wrestling is there.
Because quite clearly I'm responding to the notion that sports are only if you play offense versus defense.
Wrestling doesn't have offense and defense.
It would be to compete until someone wins, but we don't want people to die.
Go to bed, you're drunk.
I think when you have a team, it's a sport. otherwise it's just a competition. but then tennis would just be a competition, but idk
Jim Mc Kay and I agree with this false dichotomy. Football, baseball, soccer, basketball, hurling, ski jumping, swimming, track & field, caber tossing.... they're all part of the Wide World of Sports. Games? Chess, checkers, Monopoly, Risk, poker, chemen de fer, Mousetrap, Operation....
Doubles?
Yeah I always had it reversed. Track & Field is a sport and not a game. I always thought.
chess you can play defense against your opponent’s offense but nobody ever called it a sport.
I think baseball is both a game and a sport.
Track & Field is a sport and not a game. I always thought.
Exactly.
The mental gymnastics people are going through to justify game v sport is ridiculous. *THEN* someone who cannot make a cogent point introduces another undefined variable -- they're "competitions".
When the average starter does nothing for 95% of the time while the ball is in play, it’s a game.
Music to my ears. Though I don’t think he would’ve beaten out Bryce Young two seasons ago. I’m glad he gets to have nightmares about Michigan. First OSU QB in quite a long time.
Dude's not that good. Had the best receiving group in the country all his years at OSU along with a solid line and couldn't muster 26 points against Michigan on 2 tries. Lacked the fundamental quality of most effective OSU QBs which was lethal run threat,. He will be a bust in the NFL alongside the vast majority of OSU QBs.
you know, i do wonder if that's not spot-on. he has a very good arm but he's a C or maybe a C+ on mobility. and what you say about having other-worldly receivers making him look better than he is, there's some truth to that. seems like a decent kid, i'll be curious if/how he makes it in the NFL. he's no hurts, burrow, or even justin fields.
Tremendous accuracy when there’s no pressure on him.
IF I had played quarterback for the THE ohio state team, and
IF I more talent,
I would have won 2 Heismans.
2 more Hiesmanns.
FIFY
He may be a bust, but to say he's "not that good" is crazy.
He has laser accuracy. He could have bad receivers and he'd still have amazing numbers.
Admittedly, it's much easier to say this once UM beat him twice, but come on - this is a ridiculous take.
OSU had a crazy passing game against Michigan two years ago. I was scared or a comeback the whole game until HH ground them to dust. …but his receivers, who are excelling in the NFL, made some insane catches. It is hard to judge how good he is at OSU.
I always say that Michigan only has 3-5 “tough” games each year (OSU, PSU, MSU, [Wisconsin] and a bowl game. We should win at least 3 out of 5 to have a good year.
Like it or not OSU has so much more talent than the rest of the league that they really only have 2- 3 “tough” games. Michigan, maybe PSU and their bowl game. We’re back on the horse now, but for awhile there we were OSU’s MSU. A game they should definitely win, but the other team is up for the game. Point being that if OSU doesn’t go undefeated or have one loss they’ve had a lousy year. Not beating Michigan means that CJ Stroud is the worst OSU QB in [20] years. He only had 2-3 games to prove himself this year (ND or PSU counts plus the bowl) and he went 1-2…. 2-2 if you count both PSU and ND. That isn’t Heisman caliber.
That said he’s definitely talented or he wouldn’t be there. McCord or Quinn Ewers would be.
