12/29/2018 - 1:21am This BS about this being a …

This BS about this being a "meaningless" game is so tired.  Do the writers of this blog actually not care if Michigan wins or loses?  Will there be a UFR in either case, or only if M wins?  (As has become tradition, it seems.)  And if we only like things and feel good about the world when the team wins, doesn't that imply meaning?

How meaningless is the game if someone is wasting their time reporting on coach-speak press conferences leading up to it?  To me, Michigan football games are a rare resource to be relished and enjoyed, not pissed on.  Articles like this are much more meaningless than tomorrow's game.  Why did you waste your time writing such meaningless content for a game that means nothing to you?

Maybe if folks stopped so sloppily throwing around the term "meaningless" and spent a moment ascribing a more nuanced description of what this game means, they might find there are things to look for, enjoy, regret, etc.  Sure, Michigan is not one of the 4 remaining teams who have a shot at the CFP trophy.  Is that all Michigan football is to you?  Or is there, perhaps, some other layer of meaning you glean from your fandom?

Don't be so lazy and trite.

12/28/2018 - 1:00pm Seriously - that one FFFF…

Seriously - that one FFFF was THREE WEEKS AGO.  Where are the game previews?  Any practice updates?  WTF?

I have spent plenty of time in the BPONE, but this site's attitude is bordering on fandom malpractice.  If they don't want to talk about football during bowl season, while the basketball team is playing nobodies, then what's left to drive traffic for readers?  Maybe move the board posts to the main page and put the occasional staff created content on the sidebar.

I don't get it.

Do all these "Live from the Bo Store" podcasts just point a camera at a rack of jackets?  Does the sponsor find value in that?

09/17/2018 - 7:26pm Not sure if you had this…

Not sure if you had this same experience, but I also found the app to crash a ton - often coinciding with the commercial breaks, where the app was running different ads than the tv broadcast (I think).  With the frequency of the interruptions, that meant way too many re-boots.  It was a mystery to me, at the time, that I was still able to catch up to the real-time game.  So as frustrated as I was getting trying to stream the app to my tv, I can see it must have been a whole 'nother hell for folks in the stadium.

01/13/2018 - 5:44pm Ehh, I think it fits

... at least until MSU gets its house in order.  Until then, I think it's a public service to call attention to their issue.  Feel the same about PSU.  They brought the shame on themselves.

08/12/2017 - 10:12am Me too

Connor Cook precisely fits my definition of #2 as well.

12/16/2016 - 7:03pm Haiku

So close - edit out "in offense" and you're there.

09/23/2016 - 10:50am Too little too late

They may have passed this law after seeing what a distracted/raging/inebriated (wasn't clear what was really the problem at time of accident) drove through a group of cyclists and killed a number of them earlier this year.

But I'm sure the cyclists deserved it for having the gall to put themselves in harms way in public like that.…

09/23/2016 - 10:23am Highly subjective

I also live and work in Chicago and this is just so wrong - objectively.  Not to say your impression of your personal safety isn't true for you, but I suggest spending 30 minutes on a bike in Chicago and see if maybe your calculation of the ratio of kamikaze cyclists-to-inattentive drivers doesn't come out differently.  Yes, cyclists blow through intersections - very bad.  But a simple news search will show precious few "pedestrian killed by cyclist" stories, but near daily stories of "cyclist killed by car" stories.

Plus, just the simple vast outnumbering of drivers versus cyclists would make your premise very unlikely.

05/28/2016 - 9:13am Wow

Just, wow.

02/05/2016 - 12:17pm Yep - this is not really "OT"

I was going to comment this thread technically didn't need to be OT, as Maurice had actually directed the MMB back in the 80's.  I was going to confirm to Yo_Blue's post as well, but it was the 80s not 70s (unless he was there more than once).  I was in the band then and it was definitely a very cool experience that he seemed to really enjoy.

01/16/2015 - 5:29pm Sounds famliar

That's what we used to say about Hoke.

01/16/2015 - 7:33am What about Sr on the official visits?

I'm more curious about the experience of have TWSr going on the visits to other schools with TWJr.  That could be an interesting dynamic and a fun way to get an inside look at how other schools are recruiting one of UM's top targets.

12/29/2014 - 9:11am One last Best and Worst - thanks!

I suppose your "contract" with MGoBlog may have included a thirteenth B&W and without a bowl game, well, this is the content most available, but glad to see another in your series.

So thanks for such an entertaining run-down.  I don't quite get the Gregg Henson nerve you've touched in some folks, but that seems more indicative of the level of discourse now found on the board here, so thanks for taking the time away from your wife to raise the quality average here.  Well done.

11/09/2014 - 8:21am Agree

Because it would involve a receiver entering an endzone.

11/07/2014 - 8:30pm Seconded

I logged in to mention these two as well.  For Temperance I can at least vouch that one of my pals and a UM alum is an investor, so there are worse ways to spend your beer money.

Also, if you're looking to pick up some fried food on the way to the golf course or parking lots around the stadium and are traveling light, I highly suggest the Chicken Shack for some incredible fried chicken.  There's extremely limited seating and near-zero dining ambiance, but for grabbing some food to go, it can hardly be beat.  Not far away is Hecky's BBQ, but I don't frequent that place though many love it.

10/30/2014 - 11:57pm Lost 5 double digits so far

You do realize that we've already lost 5 games by double digits this year, don't you?  Which is Hoke's fourth year on the job.  I'm not really sure whose argument you're making now.

10/30/2014 - 11:48pm Wisconsin

RR did fluke out a stunning win over Wisconsin.  And RR's team never watched the Brown Jug head to Minneapolis.

10/30/2014 - 11:38pm Not the same sort of pay cut

The Arizona salary was 50% higher than the UM offer of $265,000 and that AZ salary was a cut only by dint of the WV counter-offer that Casteel did reject to move to AZ.  So, there are pay cuts and then there are pay cuts, I guess.

10/13/2014 - 11:05am Ugh

Those uniforms are just awful.  PSU gave a clinic in those photos as to what a tradition looks like.  Would have done the program's image a great deal of good to have Michigan's actual uniform displayed "under the lights".

Just proves to me that Brandon doesn't actually understand "branding" but just "marketing", which are not synonymous.

But overall, am glad we aren't the worst team in the Big 10, which is sad to have to consciously feel good about.

10/09/2014 - 11:58pm Too soon

Too soon.

09/20/2014 - 12:52pm Good god

Good god people, what a bunch of wet blankets.

02/17/2014 - 3:44pm Would be popular

I'm sure this would be a welcome commitment to the development folks at UM.  All it takes is for someone here on this board to make it happen.  You can probably request a list of naming opportunities, find out what donation level it takes to secure one, then when you have that much money you can turn it over and have them name it whatever the hell you want (as long as it meets their donor recognition standards).

Complaining about it but not showing up with the cash is, as they say, cheap.  The reason those folks have their names on the facilities is because they actually wrote the dang check.

Last year everyone here was falling over themselves about Stephen Ross's gift to the athletic department.  He of the Stephen M. Ross School of Business...

Endowing chairs, positions, even coach's jobs is not a new thing people.  It's a way for people to give money to support an institution they love and have a good idea how the money is being used.  And then the university can spend elsewhere the money they would have spent on that thing.  Win/win.

12/14/2013 - 8:11am Sure, hypothetically

But since this trade would have to come down to trusting Buckeyes on their end of the bargain, I think I'll just go back to wanting to win both of those games.

12/13/2013 - 12:56pm Do it

A third kid brings glorious pandemonium - and really separates the parental wheat from the chaff.

Naming is up to you and any birthing partners.

11/29/2013 - 9:51am And I would also take the band off that list

I would venture to say our band has gone as soft as well.  Still good, but no longer great or in the running for "greatest."

11/26/2013 - 10:20am Trendlines vs relative values

I think I agree that more likely than not, most teams would see their trendlines heading slightly south over the season.  As much for the typically soft early season schedules as for anything related to opponents better understanding play tendencies or everyone generally getting into the meat of their schedule late in the season. (Northwestern and Wisconsin played OSU fairly early in their B10 seasons, for instance.)

What's most striking to me about these three seasons isn't so much that the 2013 season has a steeper negative slope (though that's not good either), but that the 2013 season is the only one whose trendline results in sub-average territory (by a lot).  It doesn't seem unusual that teams would have a variety of issues depressing offensive output late into the season, but for Michigan to end up so far below the average of it's opponents' outputs (if I'm understanding these values/charts correctly), that's a big issue for me.  2011 looks to be about average (ending around 100%); 2012 a bit better at about 105%; but 2013 is horrid at around 70%).

I'm sure using trendlines as an averaging of our offensive output isn't so scientific, but the graph is telling of (something bad), nonetheless.

10/14/2013 - 3:37pm I'm not as clear on when

but thought it was in one of the OTs.  What I do recall is how jarring it was to see that play out of nowhere - I was so (all-too-momentarily) relieved to see us pull it out and thought we were now playing to win.  But I think the next play was a run back into the teeth.

10/14/2013 - 3:10pm Yeah, maybe our coaches should watch more college teams play

Instead of watching NFL ones - it's definitely not helping.

10/14/2013 - 3:07pm I think we can stop with discussion of National Championships

The team isn't likely competitive for division championships on the current trajectory.

10/14/2013 - 12:43am Heiko's question

Apparently unanswered amidst all the hullabaloo.  But seriously, what does the fox say?

09/20/2013 - 1:52pm It's been a long week

but someone needs to explain to me the irony in that.  That actually seems to be an example of consistency.  I think it'd be more ironic to have had the people on the board that mock Dantonio to have cheered the skywriting and Brandon, but I might be getting to old to actually understand irony any more.

08/29/2013 - 11:56pm Alas for the departed upvote.

08/29/2013 - 11:52pm I think I'm in the same boat as Sideline

Did you (Mr. Smith) ever complete the shipping of the shirts from the Kickstarter?  I've been looking out for two to come my way but nothing in the mail as yet...

07/27/2013 - 9:38am The visitor count is going to skyrocket for this site

if I have to view the site twice to make sure I get all the content - once on a laptop to view the photos and charts that don't render on my mobile and then again to view the mobile-only stuff like Vine etc.  It's weird, the internet these days.

07/26/2013 - 9:36am Could be a good thing

Might provide him the time to collect himself both athletically and academically.  Lots of students need to take a term or more off to refocus for success.

07/10/2013 - 2:38pm If the "readership" says petty snark is wrong

I don't ever want Brian to be right.

07/10/2013 - 2:15pm Thanks

That's a much more cogent response than the one I had started in my head.  This entire argument has me befuddled - am I now so old that the origin of "blog" has faded from memory?  Do people think this is a Time, Inc. subsidiary?

Whatevs, get off my lawn.  I miss Haloscan.

07/01/2013 - 5:54pm He had to set a floor

the 2014 schedule's already been announced and he didn't want to take a complete bath when the dynamics of his new pricing model bottomed out.

06/09/2013 - 9:12am MGoBlog:

MGoBlog: make this happen.

06/01/2013 - 12:03pm Bro

at least he didn't start his post with "Bro" - isn't that enough for you people?

06/01/2013 - 9:37am Also accounting transition costs?

I'm wondering, too, if the four-year value of that scholarship also needs to go on the books when the LOI is signed.  That might put the athletic department in the hole for that $160,000 right away as opposed to the $40,000 they're currently booking annually because they have to account for it as a liability/payable on their books.  A school the size of Michigan shouldn't have an issue with that, but with the recent articles about how many programs are running in the red already, that could be a big deal.  In three years, it'd net out about the same, but years one and two could be tough for a tight budget.

In Michigan's case, I have to assume it's a blend of "we're Michigan Men, fergodsakes, our Word is our Bond" and a reluctance to dip into the budget lines allocated for "Administrative Excellence Bonuses" or "Fan Excitement Enhancements!"

05/21/2013 - 5:46pm But there is so much art in this post

that it couldn't justifiably be broken up with a "read more".  This post puts the mgoblog back into mgoblog.  In my opinion.

It also made me a tad wistful for BlueSeoul - that camera man's hand cried out for a 'Derp!'

05/21/2013 - 5:42pm Almost anything

except Mollys.  Apparently.

05/01/2013 - 4:07pm I'm in Evanston

and I'm kind of pissed.  It's been great having Michigan come here for games - great way to involve the family in the traditions.  With 3 kids and work and life and all, it's just not as easy to jump away to Ann Arbor for gameday.  I'll trade Purdue for Northwestern.  Any takers?

04/26/2013 - 3:56pm I was thinking more like

04/24/2013 - 5:55pm May your days be blessed

to never experience a home loss to a 6-6 team.  No one else on this board has had to suffer such a disappointment, why should you?

04/24/2013 - 5:11pm Are you drunk?

You type well for a drunk sorority girl.  The Michigan Difference, I suppose.

04/18/2013 - 11:14pm This has been gameplanned out already
