Black Monday Updates - Coaches Fired

Submitted by Ajcoss on January 10th, 2022 at 9:41 AM

As we all know, right now with Harbaugh situation and NFL, important to monitor which NFL teams fire their coaches today. Here is the list so far.

Fangio - Broncos

Zimmer - Vikings

Nagy - Bears

Flores - Dolphins

Thoughts? Stephen Ross wouldn’t take our coach would he? We know Bears are in play. Heard Vikings could be in play as well. Could be a long couple days seeing where this goes. Raiders win last night gets them in playoffs, so hiring Harbaugh now would be very odd even if they only got an interim coach now.

You got me thinking where I heard this or if it was right.

The NFL regular season comes to a close Sunday night, meaning Black Monday isn't far behind. Black Monday, the first Monday following the regular-season finale, is the day when many struggling NFL teams announce coaching changes or front-office shake-ups. By no means is a team required to wait until Black Monday

I had a similar discussion with the MGoGirlfriend years ago: How come Black Friday has a positive connotation while so many other terms with black (blackmail, blackball, black hat, etc.) are negative?

She 'splained that the term comes from the old bookkeeping habit of recording profits in black and liabilities in red. Thus, a company "in the black" is profitable.

Which is so obvious that it was embarrassing that I didn't know it. But she patted me on the head and told me I shouldn't worry my pretty little head about it. My only job is to be her arm candy.

honestly - does it feel like anything is imminent? Seems like last year where everything was up in the air for weeks. We all desperately wanted information and updates, and the AD took their time with every detail...  Every other school has moved quickly this offseason, despite the insane amount of changes. Michigan, does what it does. I get that they dont owe me anything, but right now the optics are "uncertainty" and that doesnt do recruits, players, coaches, fans any good..

Last year everything was in limbo from the time of the last game (PSU on Thanksgiving, or the cancelled OSU game two weeks later) through NFL coaching carousel season in January. This year we were so focused on the playoff we skipped the December period of uncertainty. That's why it feels like it's moving faster this year, though it could still drag on if the Raiders make a playoff run and whether they keep the interim coach or not hangs in the air.

Also, last year everyone thought we were tanking the program and losing recruits because we weren't sure Harbaugh would stay, we didn't have a DC, etc. In the end it all worked out just fine.

None of these teams have QBs that make them good jobs. The Raiders are going to keep their coach IMO, he just took them to the playoffs! If they beat Cinci, that position will be filled for sure.

Flores is a great coach, would love to have him on a team I cheer for.

The Raiders winning last night probably helps Michigan. It at least puts a stay of execution on the Raiders letting go of their interim guy and going guns-blazing for Harbaugh, and probably gives Michigan more time to get the right offer together, if they haven't already put it together (which, if they haven't by now, then they really are their own worst enemy).

I'm sure the Raiders are still putting an offer together behind the scenes just so its ready to go, but I can't imagine they would formally offer it to Harbaugh before they definitively know their season is over. Because what happens if they make the AFC Championship? What if they make the Super Bowl or, god forbid, win it? You really going to fire that guy now? Would be one of the biggest "Well this is awkward" moments in sports history.

As for Stephen Ross, I don't think he'd have any real qualms about hiring Harbaugh if he was interested. It would be a business decision, and the Miami Dolphins are his business. If he thought Harbaugh was the best man for the job and could lead Miami to a Super Bowl, I think he'd put an offer in to Harbaugh and wouldn't think twice about it. I think he'd rather have a ring than not hurt his alma mater's feelings. Deion just swiped the #1 overall player in America out from under his alma mater to go play at Jackson State. That should be a reminder to all of us that football is a business, even at the college level. They are all in the business of winning.

Bears will probably make a play as well since Harbaugh has history there, but I don't know if they already have another candidate in mind.

I wonder if the players have any say. The Raiders haven't been to the playoffs since 2016 yet here they are despite a shit ton of distractions (Gruden firing, Ruggs car crash, some overrated former OSU corner getting cut for issuing death threats etc). I have to imagine that Bisaccia's performance has endeared the players to him and that they would love to continue playing for him.

Oh wait...  I'm an insider!

Shakeup in Chitown. All of the talk around SOLDIERS has been what's going to happen to MN and RP. Well, today was the day they were handed a LM Pizza and their walking papers.

Word around the Naval Pier is that GSH (RIP btw) would be turning over in his grave if the CB's didn't take a long look at TA for GM and RD for HC.

Stay tuned.....
