MLive article on football staffer's suspected DUI from last week.

It's a pretty wild story. There was a lot of discussion here about what Fergus Connolly did as Director of Performance. Turns out, he is also Director of Football Operations.
Fergus should just show himself out.

he should show himself in....
....to a rehab program...

As an alcholic in recovery, I do hope he gets help.
But, he's done at Michigan if the alleged report is true.

You do have to appreciate his commitment.

Odd; the vehicle he ws driving was registered as a University vehicle...
sure sounds like more than alcohol was involved

dude hasn't posted in a while....

Or
Maybe he was chasing rabbits, and it being Ann Arbor, a hooka-smoking caterpillar had just given him a call.

I have, or I should say had, a buddy who we all considered a "mean" drunk. Everytime he got drunk he got mean and combative. This guy sounds like a mean drunk, and the only cure for that is rehab, and to stop drinking. You don't get better at being drunk, you just get worse.

Sounds like more than just being (very) drunk. I would bet that he had some sort of a reaction with alcohol and some medications or other drugs. Bad interactions can make people do some really crazy things. That doesn't excuse the behavior and outcomes, of course.
It's all an espn conspiracy!!!!

really is amazing to me that MSU fans still widely believe "the Blue Wall" still exists. The primary reason that the ESPN piece "shocked and awed" to the extent that it did nationally is because the local sports media has been complicit in sweeping the issues at MSU under the rug for years. "The Blue Wall" is not a thing, at all. If anything, Michigan consistently battles a hostile local media.

MSU fans believe that for years, the local media has treated Michigan with kid gloves and unfairly targeted Michigan State with negative coverage, and that in this way the local media is "the Blue Wall" that insulates Michigan from negative press or scrutiny. They actually do think this, believe it or not.
Sounds like a career ender
don't believe him that he could have put an officer in a wheelchair. I don't think that would have gone the way that he thinks.
Daniels happens. Jack Daniels and Club Keno have ended a lot of careers.
Get this fucking fool out of the athletic department and into a treatment facility, although if everything that happened is true, he needs to see the inside of a jail cell for a while.
1. that's felony resisting and obstructing when you whack the officer at the station. it is simple assault and battery (misdemeanor) to tussle with the security guards unless they are sworn as peace officers.
2. that's a heck of an accident to have before noon. guessing a very high BAC and/or other drugs on board. guy is obviously in serious need of counseling and rehab, and i hope he gets it.
3. if the joe simon in the article is the one i know, he's a good lawyer, will do a good job for his client.
4. as soon as they start writing artcles about MSU that keep the criminal tallies going ('that's the 14th rape by a sparty football/basketball player this year') then i'll stop taking offense at the fact that they mentioned this is the 2nd arrest under JH, etc. jerks.
March 14th, 2018 at 10:42 AM ^
Maybe the officer was coming off a double shift and looked tired. The accused simply wanted him to sit down and rest while they booked him.
Man you all jump to conslusions.
if this is even close to accurate this is one of the wildest arrest reports I've ever read. It features:
Biting
Hit & run
Throat grabbing
Standing barefooot in snow
Threatening police
I mean this is unbelievable. Even Gary Moeller thinks this dude was embarrassing.

what's uncommon about it is that a seemingly 'together' and highly compensated professional enganged in that conduct. it goes to show the depth of his problem and the danger of too much booze (and possibly other stuff) for anybody.
March 14th, 2018 at 10:14 AM ^
I'm not ashamed to say I know my way around a cocktail and have, on occasion, imbided a wee bit too much (not on a Monday morning though) and can safely say I've NEVER gotten close to any of that stuff he was doing.
I'm pretty sure of two things:
1. He was definitely on "other stuff"
2. The "other stuff" would probably melt a test tube
March 14th, 2018 at 10:19 AM ^
could have been just liquor. Particularly if this was a day or situation that just "got away from him" with shots and shit as opposed to him being an everyday sipper. At some point with liquor, people just completely lose their shit and cannot control themselves. Like in a deep blackout, this kind of behavior is not really that surprising.
It is surprising before noon though, that is certainly an outlier with that narrative.

I went back and read and didn't realize at first how long it actually went on. Definitely a case of Bathsalts or Tide Pods.
March 14th, 2018 at 12:47 PM ^
in an approved, responsible manner.
totally guessing, but other stuff is probably script meds, not white powders, salts, etc. the latter types are so danm dangerous. even one time usage can cause permanent brain damage. its not like they're made by chemists at smith-kline, but more likely high school drop-out parolees in a garage somewhere.

I think the key words there are "for football". I don't think that's the same as the assosiate athletic director that works for Warde.

The lengths some guys will go to, just to avoid admiting his name is Fergus!

Has there been any statement or action by the University on this? If not...man, that's hard to understand at this point.

Just get rid of this idiot.

"evidence-based analysis and athlete-focused training are the path to success in sport"
I'd say the evidenced-based analysis is that Harbaugh should have fired his ass already and if he's not willing to do so, then Manuel should do his fucking job and do it himself.

The proper response is "fire him now," and "keep him in the community so he can get the help he needs." This story looks like far more than a run-of-the-mill DUI.
March 14th, 2018 at 11:54 AM ^
I'd hope he's been suspended. I certainly wouldn't assume that he hasn't been.
I'm not seeing the harm in waiting until he is at least charged with something before firing him. Depending on the terms of his contract, that may be what the university's legal department is telling Harbaugh.
