Dantonio: I've Done Nothing Wrong and I'm Not Retiring

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

Dantonio just read a statement at the Breslin Center saying, of course, that he did nothing wrong, that he's a great guy, and that he runs a clean program. He then took a direct question, asking if he was retiring, and he said no.

Did not address any specific allegations in the ESPN story, of course.

Pride comes before the fall. Dantonio still thinks he's in the "pride" phase.

He's an emobiment of their fanbase and their program as a whole. The whole country knows that MSU is now in the same light as Penn State and Baylor. An unbiased national Sports network is running a 60-minute special on MSU's issues on Sunday. Even the most homer of homers, an alum no less, called them out on national television.

I didn’t feel like it was confident or definitive at all. It was resolute and defiant. But he did not deny any wrongdoing whatsoever. Only that all incidents were reported to the authorities and not handled internally. I would expect far more resolve and forthrightedness if they were completely clean. This came across to me like false bravado...akin to Simon’s hot takes.

He said "any accusations of my handling of complaints of sexual assault individually are completely false. Every incident reported in that article was documented by either police or the title IX office."

This seems to address the allegation that, per the OTL article, "Dantonio was said to be involved in handling the discipline in at least one of the cases several years ago."

He was clearly reading a statement written by an attorney. Pointing out that the police or the title IX office documented these cases doesn't really address the accusation that he was "involved" in the discipline in one of the cases.

The prosecutor who didn't file charges in the Payne-Appling case now works for the MSU title IX office!  It's pretty clear this culture of enablement permeated the title IX office and local law enforcement.  Even if they documented these cases, it's not a stretch to think Dantonio was "involved" in the way those cases were resolved, and he only says he wasn't "individually" handling any cases.  Well, maybe he was "collectively" handling a case (or cases) with the title IX office.

I can't help but feel like our desire for Dantonio to be implicated in this has to do with his 8-3 record against us. If he's involved , he'll be fired. He clearly thinks he has been above board and I for one believe him. Let the down votes commence.

Im married to a Sparty and all my in laws are spartys. I notice you in particular love to respond to my posts. I am unhappy with our program right now and am quick to respond when we try to belittle MSU with arrogance. I actually don't care Dantonio and think he's a socially awkward jackass. That doesn't change the fact that I think he's being honest here and I think he's a tremendous coach.

That's an incredible story. I'm married to a Sparty too. I had to sit there while she interviewed a recent MSU grad and they both raved about how awesome Dantonio is and what a great representative of their university he is.

Nevertheless anyone with half a brain shouldn't be surprised by this. Dantonio is a scumbag liar and no rational, objective person could possibly believe otherwise.

I'll start with him kicking his 4 best freshmen off the team this summer almost instantly when the charges were brought. Notice , not when they were proven guilty but when he could boot them without legal recourse. This coming off a 3-9 season. That's my basis.

No, fan boi means you are a delusional fan who covers his ear and screams as loud as he can when someone questions the direction of our program. After you finish screaming , you throw out the tangible argument being made and respond with "because we're Michigan !"

I just don’t agree with the idiocy of firing a coach every three years, thinking that will fix the situation. Harbaugh was the homerun hire, even your Coach Dantonio took until year 4 to win anything of substance.

Folks, remember what George Carlin said - never get into an argument with an idiot. He will just bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

So you believe that shitbag because he kicked talented players off the team for sexual assault after the entire school was being watched because of Nassar, and you have no comment on the OTL piece other than “if he did it, he’ll be fired.” Soooooo, you believe him because he did what he had to do and you ignore everything else. What a fucking troll
