04/25/2018 - 11:28am Love this thread

I've been trying to put a trip together this summer to go to one I haven't been before. Yosemite and Zion have been my favorites so far, in that order. Yosemite is great at all times of the year, and the view at Zion (as well as the hike itself) is spectacular.

04/17/2018 - 12:21pm Must get

I have no opinion on his talent or ability, but we must keep the tradition of z-named point guards alive

04/10/2018 - 2:32pm What you can do

is load up on talented young players to usurp Golden State when they're ready to fall. Teams like Philadelphia and Minnesota may be in position to do that, but they had to go through years of sucking to get there. The Pistons have always had a reluctance to just tank a season, and as a result they have a hard time obtaning young talent.

04/10/2018 - 2:30pm Completely agree

SVG made the Blake trade to save his job. They've seemingly sold out for a spot in NBA purgatory (6-10 seed) until Blake's contract expires, i.e., exactly what they were doing before the Reggie-Drummond era began.

04/09/2018 - 6:52pm Question for the board

Who’s shoulders does the majority of the blame fall on between the administration and Izzo/dantonio? The coordination between the athletic department and Title IX + student services offices is alarming, and certainly goes above the heads of Izzo and dantonio. In my mind, this coordination has to involve Izzo and dantonio somehow, but wouldn’t people like Hollis and others in the AD be responsible for the implementation of all this?

03/18/2018 - 10:25pm You know someone's flustered

when they start turning into Dave Brandon

03/06/2018 - 7:56pm I'd have to agree with that

Right now at least, LaVall is a little more proven and still very young. We'll have a better view of his capabilities over the next few years, but he looks to be tracking well so far. Hopefully Yaklich would still be ok with being an assistant if this situation were to take place, but likely not.

02/22/2018 - 2:00pm Agreed to a certain extent

iirc the offense was struggling a bit at that point. My thought process was something like, "bad shot, but Poole took it so I'm relatively ok with it."

02/22/2018 - 1:30pm Finished watching the game

and had the same reaction vis-a-vis Poole. If he really is going to take Matthews minutes, which offensively is in order, he needs to cut down on defensive 'freshman' mistakes. If he fixes those this offseason, hoo boy. He really gets the offense going on another level with his scoring and passing ability. If he had 10-1 odds to win B1G PoTY by the start of next season, I'd think about taking it.

02/22/2018 - 1:42am the 2013 tournament run

suggests a different conclusion. McGary didn't start until the tourney

02/13/2018 - 11:59pm I like next year more than 2020

mainly because if next year goes really well, Poole or Livers might not be back. I think Poole has B1G PoTY potential as early as next year, and may go the Stauskas route. Livers is more of an NBA athlete already, and if he can polish his game off over the summer we might not have either of those guys come 2020.

02/01/2018 - 8:03pm Still not too excited by that

Ish would be the only above average bench player in that unit.

02/01/2018 - 7:44pm The glaring problem with the team now

is their bench. Rolling with a Buycks, Galloway, Kennard, Tolliver, and Moreland right now. No wonder Memphis is on a 16-3 run.

01/28/2018 - 12:18pm Exactly

When people are saying that we're happy about this it is completely false. It's money out of our pocket, as well as money out of future MSU students' pockets.

01/28/2018 - 12:14pm It also effects the state

I for one, don't want MSU's reputation to be ruined because of this. MSU has been gaining a lot more respect academically over the past decade, and I want there to be as many quality universities/colleges available to Michigan citizens (at a more affordable price) as possible.

01/26/2018 - 11:40pm I agree with you

in that we need to reexamine the culture. This post has nothing to do with my fandom, I simply quoted what Izzo said. That being said, the system of college athletics is broken in this sense. It's no wonder cases like this occur, because if you rid your team of enough of your players, then the team will start performing poorly, and if the team starts performing poorly, the coaches might get fired and have their multimillion dollar contracts terminated. There's no doubt that this could happen/be happening at any major university, but obviously this case is more relevant to us because of the proximity and history with the involved program.

01/26/2018 - 8:03pm Video of the press conference

Starts at 8:00

01/26/2018 - 7:30pm Another terrible part of this

After being informed that all staff members were mandatory reporters, one person asked “what if I don’t feel comfortable reporting the information learned because it would lead to an uncomfortable work environment with the other employee?”

I've worked at various summer camps the last 4 summers. Every year we spend at least a day, sometimes more, of training going over procedure for situations that include any suspicion or admission of physical, emotional, or sexual abuse and are told that we must report that information to our superiors. What's unbelivable about the above is if a bunch of 16-25 year old kids can understand this concept and follow through with it flawlessly (as has been my experience, at least), why can't employees of an academic institution?
01/25/2018 - 1:31pm We'll see how much

the last 3 games can be explained by lack of rest. The team's gotten plenty in preparation for this one, so hopefully we can get back to the gangbusters-level we were at 2 weeks ago

01/17/2018 - 5:08pm This year might be pushing it

While I love this year's team, they're prone to long offensive lapses (such as first half ucla and maryland), and while they are able to swing themselves back into games with their great defense, I just can't see how they win 6 consecutive games against great teams. I started this year thinking the sweet 16 was their ceiling, now I think a final 4 run is possible, but a title is in my mind unlikely. Next year though, they're going to be a legitimate contender, especially if both wagner and matthews return.

01/11/2018 - 3:12pm Really reminds of 2012-13 seasons

But the first team in this case (current team) vs 2012 (first Beilein B1G champs) is much younger and seemingly more talented, but doesn't have a future POTY. Should be interesting, feeling almost as confident about a future Final 4 trip for this squad as I was for the 2013 outfit. Hopefully these last two classes yields the same production as the 2012 class (3 first round picks, 1 second)

01/05/2018 - 2:38pm True, but

my disagreement would be that Mike DeBord wasn't a great coordinator

01/04/2018 - 12:09pm just read your post again

he coached a doak walker winner, something that is more impressive than anything Welcher has ever done at the college level. The fact is that none of us can name 3-5 elite running backs coaches, so your assertion of 'we should get someone better that has never coached in college before' doesn't make a ton of sense to me. The reality is Don Brown is a one of a kind coach, there aren't many non-spread OCs/position coaches who just happen to produce top 5 offenses with lackluster talent in major conferences.

12/12/2017 - 10:38pm Wow

These refs... missing calls left and right for both sides

12/06/2017 - 9:58am No,

but I do think that he's related to Pea Shatterson

10/31/2017 - 11:24am not gonna lie

when i read the title i thought this was gonna be brian complaining about burned redshirts

09/24/2017 - 4:33pm That might be

the greatest description of what it's like to be a lions fan that I've ever seen

09/02/2017 - 7:53pm Really liked DPJ's aggressiveness

Fielded a lot of punts that normal returners would let go and got positive yards on them.

09/02/2017 - 7:48pm That's great and all...

but what did our BBPI end up looking like for the game???

08/09/2017 - 8:04pm Is this an mgoblog founded-scholarship?

If so it's really awesome and am wondering where I could get more info about it!

08/02/2017 - 11:42am It's not weird

I kinda want to see Onwenu more than Evans and DPJ too

05/20/2017 - 3:42pm Seems like

People are sleeping on Runyan as the RT. I hope he wins the job this year, would love to at least get a few players from the 2015 class moving in the right direction (so far just Kinnel and Wheatley seem to be in line for serious playing time).

05/14/2017 - 7:28pm Do they

still have a shot at hosting an NCAA regional?

05/08/2017 - 3:52pm Definitely David Long for me.

If Hill already looks like he's panning out, then having another young CB who looks to be delivering on a large amount of potential would be great.

05/08/2017 - 3:51pm I think

at least from Brian's perspective, that the expectation for Hudson might already be ABT

04/30/2017 - 12:24am The issue

is that bowl games don't mean as much now as they used to. BCS bowl games used to feature two top 10 teams, many of whom were conference champs. I love the playoff system and am glad we are done with the BCS, but the downside of having a playoff means that other 'major' bowl games don't have nearly as much importance as they used to.

04/28/2017 - 3:53pm Harbaugh

didn't smile one time until he won. Watch the video again, and just look at his facial expressions. I love our crazy coach.

04/18/2017 - 1:44pm Exactly

I think those types of plays will be perfect for TRAIN, and will lead to some big plays. With all the guys they rotate into those spots IDing who's out there will be really tough for opposing defenses.

04/18/2017 - 1:09pm WR starters

It seems like the only lock right now is Crawford, and more likely than not DPJ is the #2 with maybe Black pushing from behind. With Schoenle, McDoom, Johnson, and Martin factors at the slot, and guys like Hawkins, Collins, and DPJ/Black (loser of the #2 battle), is there any chance of some of the guys more considered to be outside recievers playing slot? In the game it seemed like they had a bunch of different combos, with at least DPJ seeing some time in the slot.

04/12/2017 - 12:38pm Pistons' PG

is probably the most important basketball-related one. There's an argument for C too but I think most would agree the pressure on the PG is greater.

04/03/2017 - 10:08am Perfect

Assuming UM doesn't 'play the game' because it's so shady. Glad JB still does well enough with development to counteract that though.

03/11/2017 - 4:15pm What Walton's been doing is incredible,

but the year before the POY season Burke led a team starting novak at power forward to a conference title.

02/13/2017 - 10:02am I think anyone has a shot

Just looking at this season, Yogi Ferrell has been a sensation for the Mavs. If walton can keep up this run, he might not be drafted but he could make the most out of a 10-day contract type situation like Yogi did.

02/06/2017 - 12:43am (No subject)

02/04/2017 - 12:37am Update:

He did not play well. 1-9 from the field for 4 points and the lowest +/- score in the game. Hope he gets back on the horse, he's had a few great games this season already.

01/21/2017 - 12:56am At least this way

the Pistons don't have to pay KCP like he's Klay Thompson and lose the rest of Reggie's contract for someone who is not quite as good but only has 2 years on their contract left. I love KCP, but I think I'd rather take a chance to see if I could get a top 5 pick in this year's draft, I think Fultz is incredible and the other guys have enough potential to become superstars. The way the team is currently constructed, Drummond has to become young Dwight Howard 2.0 and he's simply not a good enough defender for that to be realistic. On top of that, they need better shooters at every other position to compete in the modern NBA, and I don't think any of the guys they have now will be able to raise their percentage enough to be worth keeping. I was excited about the team after last season, but times have already changed so much. If your team doesn't have a superstar, you need to play lockdown defense like Utah, but the Pistons don't seem to be capable of doing so.

01/20/2017 - 10:38pm That deal

sounds awesome, but I don't think Minny would be down, even though I think their starting lineup of Reggie-Lavine-Wiggins-Dieng-KAT with KCP, Dunn, and Shabazz is pretty good. However, if Minny keeps up their current record, they'd have a shot at one of the top 5 players in the upcoming draft (Fultz, Smith, Ball, Tatum, Jackson), all of whom would immediately make their future even brighter than it already is. For Detroit, thats a great deal, espeically because this group of players doesn't seem to be working, but for Minny they probably prefer the latter scenario since they are apparently sold on the potential of Dunn.

11/10/2016 - 1:31pm Am I the only one...

who sees 'Beathard' and reads it as 'beat hard' every time?

10/21/2016 - 10:31pm The Pistons

are already a good team, and they're only going to get better. However, a big key of the offense is out for about 6 more weeks (Reggie Jackson) so hopes for a fast start are likely unrealistic. This team is really young though and is coached really well, they should be one of the top teams in the East with potential to eventually challenge the Cavs in the coming years.
