Are beautiful to us. I have read some hot takes around the webz claiming that UM sports the ugliest uni's in college football. I guess fans all have their own opinion on this matter. As far as alternates go - I don't necessarily like it but I understand why teams do it (even blue bloods like OSU). Teenagers love them and it's all about recruiting these days

I'm not really sure it's about recruiting. Pretty sure Alabama doesn't wear them and they recruit just fine. I live in Columbus and whenever they have alternate jerseys, people buy every single one. It's dumb but they sell a crap load of jerseys every single time they do it.

Recruiting is the worst reason.  College football is special because it's passion passes through the generations and consistent uniforms are a part of that.  Recruits will ultimately appreciate being on teams like Penn State and Alabama that respect tradition.  Unfortunately we have dropped a rung below those two programs in valuing our tradition, but at least we don't crap on it like OSU and many other teams now do.

Personally, I would like to defeat the scarlet and grey, not the matte black in ugly faux camo.  I have hated their base uniforms for 46 years and I love doing it.  Makes everything more special and binds eras when things stay consistent.

Passions upon 16-18 year old kids. Recruiting is the life blood of the modern college football program. Never underestimate what they'll do in the name of a top 5 recruiting class... JH slept over at a teenage place kickers house fer God's sakes. ** Personally, I also love tradition... But they don't really care what I love because I'm a 35 year old man who was recruited almost 20 years ago

This is absolutely true and we do need to take off our midwestern glasses here... college football is big in Michigan and Ohio, but in a lot of the country (and especially in places on the coasts that we rely on for talent), it is an exclusive niche pastime for students, alumni, and members of university communities. There are no Rutgers fans, there are no Stanford fans. Kids grow up dreaming about playing for the Raiders or the Steelers, they are not getting boners at 16 in most of the country about our 125 years of gridiron history or getting to wear the same helmet as guys like Desmond Howard, who retired from the NFL the year they were born.

Some of these guys will emerge from college deeply invested in that kind of thing, sure. Some of them, like Larry Fitzgerald, only want a springboard to the next level... Larry considers the University of Phoenix his alama mater, I bet you he couldn't tell you how to get from point A to point B on the Pitt campus.

You have an emotional attachment to the team and also the uniforms that they wear. we hold a very subjective opinion on uni's... I'm sure there are OSU fans who are certain (in their little minds) that Michigan uniforms are the ugliest in football and OSU's are by far the most beautiful... It's all subjective

I hate when they do that.  It shows a disrespect for the game.  Like it needs to be juiced up with some gimmick.

The only alternate I would like to see is both teams wear their home uniforms like they used to do until black and white TV required the switch to away whites in the 50's.

I don't take it personally, I am just a little guy defending the whole tradition thing we like to ramble on about.  Actions speak louder than words.  Penn State and Alabama get it.  We sort of do but not really.  OSU is crapping on it.

Extinction is forever.  Put some grey hair on your chest and you will get it.

hate that they do that. Michigan homes and OSU aways are two of the best uniforms in the country. It’s a shame they can’t just let it be.

Those two uniforms on the field together is an all-american institution... Like Apple pie and Thanksgiving turkey.

This. Away jersey exist to solve a problem that no longer exists. They serve no real purpose anymore and are uglier than the home jersey for almost every(all?) team.

Don't care.  Just wondering why ND gets the home game next year after pulling their bullshit move to end the series with the last home game a few years back.  Shouldn't it be our turn?

Laughing my ass off here. Those uniforms make me want to punch old people. Hope the team sees the same sort of annoyance with those patterns. Holy shit that's stupid. What a desperate attempt to grasp onto some sort of edge year after year.

I think it cheats the players.

If they do something memorable for the ages, it won't even be in their own uniforms.

Imagine if you are Desmond Howard and your iconic "Hello Heisman" moment was captured for eternity in some clownish yellow-on-yellow alternative that nobody ever recognizes as Michigan?

Dumb. Save if for some meaningless OOC game, not The Game.

thinks about making those memorable moments for the ages in games vs other teams. Listening to OSU hacks after Iowa, all they talked about was the playoffs and how it is a wasted season without them. Michigan was not even mentioned.

OSU fans 35 and younger have no reason to view the Michigan game as the pinnacle. And to be honest, their strength has been and continues to be that they worry about the Ws and not the optics and politics of it. We on the other hand are a fanbase where the shade of yellow used for our uniforms is a major political point of debate.

True, they take beating Michigan for granted these days. It's probably like we looked at MSU most years between Daugerty and Dantonio: "Just please don't screw it up and lose to those guys, 'cuz that would be kind of embarassing, and their fans can be pretty unsufferable when we lose. And we probably can't be as arrogant around them for a little while. But honestly, we've got bigger things on our mind."

Perhaps when we actually make it a rivalry again then they will respect traditions more. Right now they get to change uniforms and have been beating our asses.

Good point.

We say that their uniformz for the game show that they don't respect the rivalry.

Well maybe they don't.

When we were beating Ohio State regularly in the 80's and 90's, I once went shopping for glasses during the Michigan-Ohio State game.  Because I already knew how it would turn out.

You can bet I don't do that kind of shit anymore.

Respect has to be earned, then continuously re-earned.

I admitted it, and I'm not just a casual fan.  It shows how much you can take it for granted when the rivalry is in name only.

Lots of Buckeyes do the same thing now to us.  And they are traditionally obsessed with us.

You gotta keep earning rivalry status.

Does anybody really think Minnesota is a rivalry game anymore other than its got a cool trophy?

Every second of every game against Ohio State - win or lose - often in person otherwise on TV - since I can remember. I’m 46 years old. It’s just very strange to go shopping during that game, for virtually any level of fan. That’s all I’m saying.

I'm surprised myself.  I always do those hard core fan things like keeping season tickets even when I moved to DC and got married, and sitting through every second of the '88 Michigan-Minnesota freezing rain . . . one of the 3 "fan endurance" games they always mention with the Purdue game in the '90s and the Northwestern game in the '00s.  Those kinds of things.

But yes, it got to a point where I took the Ohio State game for granted.  The outcome was a foregone conclusion, and beating them did nothing for our rankings.

I also used to not pay that much attention to the NCAA tournament until we got to the Sweet Sixteen back in that time too.

You can take a lot for granted when success comes too easy.  You always think it will last.

I was young and foolish.
