so - Samuels at the basketball game

Submitted by reddogrjw on

I assume that means his academics are all set?

is he re-affirming his committment, still considering Arizona?

Samuels will be a better college back than Harris and we won't miss Najee one bit. He's more explosive and under the radar mostly because he plays against bums in New Mexico. At the AA game Harris looked like "just a guy", nice power back but the comparisons to Fournette and Adrain Peterson were honestly completely absurd.

Have I been drinking and did Najee choosing Bama heavily influence this post? OF COURSE IT DID, but still think Samuels is gonna be a baller while Najee watches other guys play at Bama.

Please don't let your facts and rational truth get in the way of my Samuels hot take.

I'm somewhat serious about Harris though, it sounds bad/convenient now because he ended up at Bama. But I don't know how you watch the AA game where he is up against elite talent and see some of the other backs (like Cam Akers) and say Harris is "the best running back prospect in 10 years". He's not. He's not the best RB in this class. Would have loved to have him, but I like Samuels just fine thank you.

I loved his tape even more than Najee Harris.  Of course, he was not playing anywhere near the competition level that Harris did in HS, but he seemed to have that extra gear and I loved his forward lean through the hole.

Again, not saying he is or will be better than Najee, but Samuels looks legit, and only Cam Akers impressed me more on the 10 or so backs I have watched film of.

Magnus, any thoughts?

He's built like a tank already and seems to run with a great forward lean right before contact.  Never know how this will translate against bigger players, but I it would be nice to have a guy that can get the extra 2-3 yards after contact by churning their legs - who is also a home run threat.

It seems like under Harbagaugh we've had the grinders (Deveon Smith) and the home run threat (Evans) as two separate backs...would love to see 1 guy who can do it all.

Evans of course could get a lot stronger as he was just a frosh this year, and we still have Kareem Walker who looked as impressive as anybody on film as well.

I think a Evans, Walker, Samuels backfield is absolutely dynamite.

I mean call of duty dude, cool story bro, and all that jam, but I go to ABQ for work a lot. Back in December there was some sort of sports awards banquet and I overheard some coach types talking about Samuels. I stopped and asked "he's for sure going to Michigan right?" and they replied with "no doubt." So there you have it.

i just watched the senior highlights of samuels, walker, and evans.

I'd rank it as

1. Evans

2. Samuels

3) Walker

With 2 and 3 being close. Evans highlights really do look explosive.

You can equate the global warming hysteria to Prohibition.  Deeply sincere people thought they were benefitting our country and ended up helping organized crime.  Huge opportunity for corruption

Although known, however the jury had not returned to the court room and there was much to find out. Then after his SPARQ scores were released, the results of which were so impressive a couple schools who had not done so at that point, made offers based on those alone. However, being the first big time program, we were in excellent position. I cannot recall exactly which demonstrations impressed me the most, but I'm thinking if was the combination of strength and if I'm half-way close, I believe he executed a vertical leap that was truly outstanding. OP states the young man possesses excellent speed in addition to above so there's not too much about him not to like. I am fully aware of the hesitation by so many of the big time programs in regard to Mike Hart who, in their opinion, as indicated by lack of offers, despite his record setting h.s. career and a tape that was other wordly, he hadn't proven anything to them to warrant an offer due to the obvious inferior competition. I think this is a difficult determination to make when, regardless of the level of competition, it is obvious you are watching someone, merely based on what you are viewing, can do nothing  other than make you  aware you're witnessing something special.

I recall Bo's ressponse to a question asking him what he looked for when evaluating high schoolers, and his acknowledging the inferior competition was not sufficent in and of itself to prevent him from offering. He stated, regardless of the level of competition, first requirement and something that might prevent him from going any further in the recruiting process, he must dominate, no matter the level. If that hurdle was cleared, then acquiring all necessary info was gathered.

.Obviously this young man answered those questions even prior to the above-referenced score. I hope my feeling that he is out to prove playing in NM in no way prevented him from acquiring that which is needed to excel regardless of competition. I believe the most important necessity, something that wouldn't be listed as a skill but definitely answers a lot of questions, and that's attitude. I am sure most of us can agree it was that chip on Hart's shoulder that he carried for four years to prove all the doubters wrong that was more responsible than any other one thing in making him the very special runner he was.

When I look at O'Maury, I see LaMichael James 2.0. I think Samuels could end up being pretty special in Our system. Could end up being very similar (production wise) to Chris Evans.
