Morris loves this school and wanted to make a difference. And he played a significant role in an event that will ultimately define his time at Michigan without his endorsement.

He did not have the career he envisioned but he provided great value to the team all the same.  People forget that he was really active in recruiting other players to come to Michigan.  My impression is that he did what was asked of him, stayed prepared for games, and was a good teammate throughout his four years here.

I hope a change of scenery helps his football career, but am grateful for all he did for Michigan Football.

His role in recruiting was really important. When Hoke showed up, people thought he was out of his league (correctly) and the general perception was Michigan had slipped to a regional program. Getting Morris - at that point a 5-star - was seen as somewhat legitimizing of what Hoke was doing. Morris' role in recruiting near 5-star Kalis, Wyatt Shallman, and others, was seen as saving the program from mediocrity. Those recruits were absolutely key to this being such a good year. He really was vital for the program and that shouldn't be forgotten.

Good luck to the young man. If I recall he was an early commitment and enthusiastic recruiter for the program. He'll have a degree from the best university in the world (my unbiased opinion).

I too have long been tired of all the Morris bashing.

First of all he's a pretty damn good QB. Everyone points to his last game under Hoke, but his first game was the Wild Wings Bowl and not only did Morris have a great game, he was the only one who showed up. The rest of the team mailed it in. Protection was poor. Run blocking sucked.

Second, Morris has never been anything but a role model Michigan man. He has been a team player supporting the team and playing whatever role that is asked of him without complaint.

Third, I'm pretty sure all those on here who have thrown stones at Morris for the past couple of years don't have 1/10th of his character or his athleticism. And you all know what they say about not throwing stones.

I hope the young man, and I won't be surprised at all, become the next Rawls of the team. He has the athleticism, arm and size. With the right motivation, environment, and continued coaching he can develop his ability to read defenses and manage the game and check downs.

On #1, he averaged five yards per pass in that bowl game.  They ran a very conservative gameplan which helped his completion percentage.  He's had numerous opportunities to start and could not do it.  Even in the Rutgers game this year, he threw a pick-6 that was called back.

Hopefully a change of scenery helps him out, but sometimes the 5* kids are just too highly rated.  Look at the highly recruited QBs that transfered out of Alabama, USC and other big schools because someone else with a lower star rating or less experience beat them out.  He has one year to prove he's every bit the 5 star kid and I hope he does it as long as he's not on our schedule next year.

Fuck Off with your opinion.

The "pick 6" that was called back vs. Rutgers was a total FLUKE which was booted off a foot and flew in to the air to a lucky defender.  So lets not misrepresent the truth just to prove your weak ass point/.

He's a good kid and I wish him the best, but as choppy as O'Korn looked in his start this year, if he was able to compete at this level I think he would be playing under Harbaugh. Good luck to him and we will always be grateful for the work he put into the program.

to be that talented--talented enough, let's face it, to have played at 100s of schools, and sit behind someone else. For that we say: thanks Shane. Because we know he made the whole team better just by being there.

Hope he can go and have an incredibly good time playing somewhere else next year.

Don't forget that Morris played a BIG role in recruiting a lot of the guys that anchored the team on both sides of the ball this year. He is a true Michigan man that never panned out. Don't hate him for it. That's just life. With more years of Harbaugh he might have done better. That said, one of his interviews from the offseason last summer struck me as odd. Said something to the effect of he realized football isn't everything and it doesn't define him or something. A good realization to have, but a weird thing to say in an interview about being a quarterback competing for a job. Seemed to indicate he had given up on having a big role here. It was sort of sad because I always hoped for big things from him, but I could see him having a Rawlsian jump if he can go somewhere where he's man and doesn't have so much pressure to be perfect and can be a bit more of a gunslinger.

Who knows how differently things could have turned out if he'd had his senior H.S. season back and some competent coaching early on at M. Never seen better physical tools on a Michigan passer. Hope they find occasion to let him toss a couple of 70-yd rainbows just for shits and giggles against FSU.

He might have changed Michigan history by standing in there against the oncoming rush vs. Minnesota and getting creamed by that late headshot. He showed guts, paid the price, and what an incredible set of dominoes began to fall that would immediately change the direction of the program at what otherwise felt like an all-time low.

Shane was in the last class I taught at UM, his first summer on the team. Everybody knew who he was, and the students fawned over him, but he knew how to handle it. Even with 2-a-days, he showed up and got the work done in my class. In my experience he was a great kid, and I wish him the best of luck. Give 'em hell, Shane!

Things may have been different for Shane if there had been different circumstances.

And they may not have been. He might just not be cut out to be an elite college QB.

No matter. He played for Michigan and by all appearances he worked hard and he endured potentially serious physical injury due to coaching incompetence and he was passed over multiple times as a starter and he has never, ever complained or said anything that could harm the program.

I'm sorry it didn't work out for him as a starter, but these things happen. I'm not even saddened by what-might-have-been. Life happened. He played for us loyally for four years. I am delighted that he has acquired a Michigan degree and that he has an opportunity to find a place to get real playing time.

Michigan man. Good luck!

Thank you to Shane for 4 years of hard work.  I am very sorry your time overlapped with the dark ages.  I wish you nothing but luck in the future.

I hope Shane finds an opportunity somewhere to really shine. I think he'll get plenty of interest after having had two years of Harbaugh tutelage. Maybe LSU will grab him...

Shane was a huge Michigan fan even before he knew he would be playing on the team and going to school here. He even helped in recruitment by convincing some to join the team. I wish he would have developed better and could have started for us. At least he got his degree and I don't blame him transferring to get another year of playing time.

I really wish the internet wasn't anonymous sometimes; the people who are taking this speculative news as an opportunity to bash Shane Morris wouldn't say it with their IRL identities attached, and definitely wouldn't say it to Shane's face.

Fuck that noise.
