I'm going to paraphrase Anthony Bourdain, but I really appreciate people who order well done steaks.  They use the crappy cuts of meat up so those of us who eat steak properly don't get stuck with them.

07/16/2018 - 2:26pm (From the ESPN Article)…

(From the ESPN Article) Engler cited Beekman's "calming presence" and his ability to handle legal and business matters as reasons for offering him the job.

"I think we could have looked across the country and been hard-pressed to find somebody that knows Michigan State the way Bill does with the qualities he has," Engler said. "We ended up not needing to do a national search."

http://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/24113508/new-michigan-state-spartans-athletic-director-bill-beekman-laser-focused-helping-students

So I assume his ability to "handle legal and business matters" means his ability to duck, dodge, and cover shit up, and I assume that knowing Michigan State means knowing to protect Mork and Izzo above all else.  Real bang up job.  Also I liked Engler's comment that Beekman counts as an outsider because "his last 23 years at the university hasn't included any previous work in athletics".  Spartan logic: guy who's worked at MSU since 1995 = outsider.

Vice versa if you're looking at just the 247 rankings, FWIW.  Which I think is a better choice, since the non-247 places haven't done a rerank in ages and don't really pay attention.

I'll be at the Michigan alumni club bar out here in San Diego, just like every other saturday.

But I thought De'Shawn Hand went there because of their superior engineering degree!

Grilled and smoked wings are great.  The grilling char blends with spicy buffalo sauce to give a much better flavor profile IMO than fried.

Brussel sprouts are (for veggies) pretty high carb, and generally not allowed on keto diets.

Generally delicious, but really it depends entirely on the sauce/preparation.   Second that grilling wings is a greatly underrated prep; they're also delicious smoked but what isn't?

Villanova in basketball, but that's less hate-filled revenge as just wanting a runback.

Nebraska in football because I've still never gotten over them wrongfully stealing half our national title.  And also USC because...everything?

07/02/2018 - 2:46pm San Diego, CA

Pros:

San Diego, CA

Pros:

Weather is perfect pretty much year round

Ready access to beach and other outdoorsy things

Short drive to mountains if you want those kinds of outdoorsy things

College football starts at 9 AM, and football brunch is awesome

Fantastic craft beer (and mead, and cider) scene

Taco shops

Cons:

Cost of living oh god cost of living

San Diego sports fans are, on the whole, pretty crappy

Down to 1 local pro team, and they suck

I miss seasons changing some times

The entire city is set up for sunny weather, so when it's not sunny, there's not much to do

My dad, who is definitely not a troll (to my knowledge he has never posted a comment or opinion online in his life), takes the same approach with commitments.  "That's nice, let me know when he actually signs an NOI and starts classes."  Not how I look at things, but it's not an uncommon approach.

Sad, I grew up shopping there.  Glad I made a stop during my trip to Ann Arbor a month ago - yeah, the product was basically the same as M Den but Moe's will always have a nostalgia about it that can't be beat.

06/14/2018 - 5:19pm McCurry, Wilson.  What's up…

McCurry, Wilson.  What's up with all the walk-ons getting hype this year?  I don't mean this as an indictment on Harbaugh or the scholarship/recruited players, just surprised.  Don't think I've ever heard of multiple walk-ons being discussed so heavily.

06/14/2018 - 2:08pm Make the board preview…

Make the board preview window on the side of the page longer.  It's about half the length of the one in the previous version of the blog, and it makes it WAY easier to miss new content on a quick look at the page, and a lot highly likelihood of repeated threads.

I would also request/recommend putting something to the left of the comments.  Move the diaries window there and move the board window up would be my vote, but put anything there, I don't even care if it's more ads for some color contrast.  The vast empty white space doesn't look good.

06/14/2018 - 2:04pm This is the problem with the…

This is the problem with the new, much smaller front page board window.  This was posted exactly 10 threads ago, which would have showed up in the old version of the blog but not the new one.  Mods/dudes in charge here, can we get a longer board window as a swiftly coming update?  It's not like there isn't a ton of white space that can be filled.

So unclear, can they now play 4 games no matter what, or will they still need an injury (real or "real") to get the retroactive redshirt?

I had the same issue yesterday. I changed my password and it let me in, but that seems an awkward at best workaround.

06/08/2018 - 1:38pm Hold on, there are ways to…

Hold on, there are ways to run cross-country that weren't sprinting like a maniac for the final stretch?  I thought that was the go to strategy?  Sure what I always did, but then I too was a not-that in shape JV runner who had no business trying to run a race.

You click the "MGoBoard" link.  It's like, right on top.

06/06/2018 - 3:11pm I think if you actually went…

I think if you actually went to the board, not just the main page sidebar, it was always this way.  But then, that's why I used the mainpage sidebar, not the actual board.  Agree we need more board posts in the side bar, less posts in the diary bar (or maybe they auto expire after a week?), and a way to sort the board page by OP date, not most recent post.   So far, I'm with MGrowOld, the changes aren't really helping readability or user friendliness.

Wait wait, I'm confused.  I thought Maizen and so many others said Beilein can't recruit, and we'd never get more than developmental three stars, and that's why we'd never have deep tournament runs because of that.  Are you saying all those panicked doomsayers were wrong???

05/30/2018 - 12:49pm I don't think looking at

I don't think looking at season long stats tells the story for Matthews.  He picked it up a TON down the stretch, especially in the BTT and NCAAs.  He'll be a loss for sure, but not a devastating one.  Just means one of the freshman will have to take a bigger role on earlier.

05/18/2018 - 10:42pm Back in Ann Arbor

I'm actually back in Ann Arbor for the first time in a decade for a wedding. Just finished several glasses of wine at the rehearsal dinner at Vinology, tomorrow's the big show. Fingers crossed the rain stays away.

05/16/2018 - 6:14pm Obviously, but if the point

Obviously, but if the point that's being made (Michigan was only gaining two, maybe three yards per rush, therefore the QB had to do everything) is dependant on those total rushing numbers being artificially deflated, then showing the actual "how many yards the running backs ran on average" sacks removed number is a much more accurate and useful tool.

The A5 sportback is such an awesome car.  I'm not sure I'll be able to find one in my price range when I replace my BMW in a month but man I want one.

05/15/2018 - 8:48pm George Washington had the

George Washington had the #194 RPI last year, Providence #31, Carolina #89.  Would rather have drawn Carolina in the first round but GW won't be an anchor by any means, especially neutral court.  Norfolk and Holy Cross were both in the 260s; not good by any means but could be worse I guess as bodybag games go.

05/15/2018 - 3:39pm I'm not sure I buy that.  The

I'm not sure I buy that.  The exotics and few stylish cars out there comply with those laws still.  My instinct is it's a matter of not wanting to spend the money on R&D and a (very bad at their job) marketing department that looks at sales, says "boxy sedans sell well, keep making them!", and never considers that the only things on the market that are priced for the masses are boxy sedans.  Add in a little bit of general corporate paranoia/risk aversion, with the concern that the current generic sedan look is reliable and acceptable whereas a more unique or risky look will have some takers but also some haters.  Still, considering the near-universality of this complaint, I feel like rolling out a couple cars in the line with some styling and a unique look would be a benefit.

05/15/2018 - 1:04pm Upside, based on their recent

Upside, based on their recent announcement soon you won't even be able to buy a Ford sedan, so the choice is made for you!

05/15/2018 - 12:19pm This.  The complete

This.  The complete abdication of interesting and visually appealing design, outside of exotics and some (but not most) luxery cars.  Every car looks the same, every car is boring and boxy and unexciting. I'm sure it's a cost and ease of manufacturing thing, and to at least some degree an aerodynamics thing, but man there are so few cars on the market that I look at and go "yeah, that's cool, I want to drive that" from a visual standpoint.  We're really in the greatest era for quality of drivability and technology and resources, but (to use a D&D analogy), we sure dumped charisma to get all those other bonuses.

05/10/2018 - 2:37pm So he's concerned about women

So he's concerned about women who've been assualted, but not concerned about numerous reports and history of revenue sports players assaulting women and being allowed to continue to play?  Yes, this seems like an internally consistent opinion.

05/07/2018 - 5:39pm Be honest, this whole post

Be honest, this whole post was just an excuse to put up the Moe breaking Ward's ankles video again, wasn't it?
