Suppose we get in due to a loss by Clemson or Washington, avoiding the additional conference championship game may be a blessing for our QBs health in the playoff. But also gets us Bama, so there's that...

has shown its hand.  They value 'best 4' over conference champ.

ON ESPN Committee rep just said the difference between Washignton and Michigan is "very, very small."

So if Washington loses, Michigan is likely in.

Doubt Wisconsin will jump Michigan unless they really blow out PSU.

Let's hope you are right.  My worry is that Wisconsin drills Penn State by 30 points and looks awesome doing it.  Yes, we beat them by 7 points a month ago.  But, they also had a narrow loss to OSU (albeit at home) and the last thing anyone saw was them killing PSU just like we did.  The diffrence is that they did it in November and have a Big Ten title.  We came in third in the East.

Of course, we still need Colorado or Va Tech to step up.

The committee really made their bed with this one.  At this rate, they are already going to be leaving out a "deserving" conference champ as we have three teams fighting for two spots. One if Clemson wins (as they should).

If Colorado wins, imagine the committee having to choose a one final team between Colorado (8) coming off a win against Washington (4) OR Penn State (7) coming off a win against Wisco (6).  Both would have two top-ten wins.  Both would have blow out losses to Michigan.  Both would have another top 25 loss.  There is no clear criteria which favors one of those teams more than the other -- it would be splitting hairs.  So it might force them to pick the team that doesn't make a complete mockery of their selection criteria.

There's just no possible way for them to "value conference championships above all else".  So let's let them compromise and pick Michigan.

I don't see us making it, just because I don't see Washington losing. I'm not sure if it's better for PSU to win or Wisconsin. OSU is making it no matter what, but if PSU wins I guess it would be hard to not put them in because they have a conference title and beat OSU head to head. It seems like if PSU wins, they're a package deal with OSU, but if Wisconsin wins and Colorado win, we would have the head to head so shouldn't we get in?

I want to see complete and total chaos. I want Washington and Clemson to both lose as well as a penn state win. Total. Fucking. Chaos.
If Clemson and Washington both lose, I'm telling you that they just might put Michigan AND Wisconsin in. They would likely make Wisconsin the 3 in that case and make us play bama.

OH MY GOD, how in the fuck can anyone move PSU or Wisky ahead of Michigan regardless of their upcoming game? We outgained them combined 864-250!!! First Downs 46-20!!! NO, the #6/7 teams that we DESTROYED should not move ahead of the #5 team that fucking crushed them!!!

How hard is this to fucking understand?

In boxing if the champion crushes the #1 and 2 ranked contenders, then the contenders box each other, the winner of the contenders doesn't just move ahead of the champion and take his belt.

I just can't believe this is even being discussed as an option.

Everyone seems to believe that Wisconsin would be more likely to jump us than Penn State.. But couldn't the opposite be true? I know we beat psu by 39 points.. But they also beat OSU. So the commitee could look at psu beating osu, and winning the conference, and think- we can't put osu in and leave psu out.. As where wisconsin lost to both us and osu. But wisonsin is ranked higher than psu, so there is that.

I have thought about this too. But the committee has stressed that they're taking the 4 best teams not the 4 most deserving teams. While it'd be fair to put in PSU, everyone knows that Michigan is the better team. I think the committee really learned its lesson last season putting in MSU over Stanford. Yeah they had the better record, but they were clearly not a better team. They always played to the level of their opponents, needed the flukiest play in college football history to beat Michigan, and torrential downpours to beat OSU. They advanced metrics showed they were not one of the top 4 teams and it showed against Alabama when they got slaughtered 38-0.

Worrying about who wins the Big Ten Championship is a waste of time in all this.

Either head to head and overall resume matter, or tripped up tie breakers/conference scheduling anomalies matter. If Washington or Clemson lose we'll have our answer to that question going forward.

The committee may make the statement that MIchigan clearly proved it was the better team and put Michigan in over either of the Big Ten title teams. I think that's very reasonable.

Too early in the evolution of the playoff to tell what they'll do.

Personally I don't get why so many people on here think it's unreasonable to put Michigan in over Wisconsin and Penn State.

If it were the college football playoff's job to protect the meaning of the championship games, what would they do if Notre Dame was worthy like in 2012? For that matter what are they already likely to do for Ohio State? A team a good chunk of the country thinks is worse then us.

Washington loss. Michigan 4 v. Bama 1, Ohio State 3 v. Clemson 2.

4 best teams.

I was hoping that we would have fallen to 4th at most.  We would still get jumped if Washington beat Colorado, but would still have a shot if the Buffs won.  Because we fell to 5, and because UW and PSU are both right behind us at 6 and 7, I would say this is a pretty clear buh-bye from the CFP committee.

having beat both already,

and 1 of them has to win a game against the other,

then it really doesn't make sense to say 1 is better than us after they beat the other team that they already agreed wasn't as good as us.

GO Buffs!

I don't think we have a chance. This is just a tease. Unless it's absolute chaos the Big Ten champ will jump us if a spot opens. I just know we're not going to get nice things.

Agreed. I don't think that Galloway or Kannell are totally unreasonable. If PSU wins, then they won the division and the conference, which have to amount to something. Wisconsin, on the other hand, lost to Michigan and OSU. Then again, we did crush PSU.
Either way, I don't think we get in.
