This has been talked about a little on the board, but BPI had pretty headscratching rankings heading into this season. IIRC, Michigan ranked in the bottom half of the B1G. I assume the preseason rankings are still baked into the numbers and I’m not really sure what BPI uses to determine home court advantage.

It’s a confusing stat that ESPN doesn’t really do a great job of explaining. As opposed to other predictive rankings like Kenpom and Torvik (preferred by this site), which are tempo-free opponent adjusted points per possession metrics. Torvik is especially nice, because the site is entirely free while Kenpom you have to pay for. Worth checking out for anyone interested in advanced sports stats.

Believe so. And IIRC, home/away equates to about 3 points. So on a neutral field, we’d be favored by 7.5 according to the S&P+ prediction.

So Harbaugh was the one on this blog ranting about undisciplined play and lack of offensive creativity just to let our opponents’ guard down? That’s some dedication.

10/02/2018 - 6:40pm The answer to the six inside…

The answer to the six inside runs may as well be Seth’s Neck Sharpie post today. The NW defense runs a 4-3 with both DTs lined up in the B gap, which allows them to set the edge very well but be susceptible to runs up the middle, especially iso (see: both of Higdon’s TDs and a couple of his longest runs). But when Michigan tried to get to the edge, it would get blown up. Maybe this is Harbaugh just being conservative at the end of the game with playcalling, but then again he could just be favoring his senior RB and interior OL to gain a few, tough yards or at the very worst, stay at the LOS and burn clock.

PPR league. Phillip Lindsay, Isaiah Crowell, or Mike Williams. I’ve got Mike Williams right now since he’s had a solid couple of games and is going up against SF’s suspect pass defense. Denver RB situation is still unsettled and Crowell is very TD-dependent and going up against a great Jacksonville D.

09/26/2018 - 4:09pm Have to disagree with you…

Have to disagree with you here, Bando. While Gilbert himself is not free from scrutiny, he has been the catalyst for the city’s turnaround. His redevelopment projects such as the David Stott Building, the Book Tower, and Old Free Press Building (not to mention his other projects both large and small) are a testament to this. These properties have been vacant and blighted for 20-30 years and pose significant risk as an investor, even with the tax breaks he’s been given. It’s refreshing to see someone take on such behemoth projects and help the CBD return to its former glory. As opposed to the Illitch family, who have consistently overpromised and under-delivered. They’ve sat on blighted properties for years waiting for the “right time”, only to bulldoze them to create surface parking lots for their stadiums. And their ground-up developments have been underwhelming as well. Remember when the roof of the LCA was supposed to be an impressive, LED-lit being the first of its kind? After they went way over budget, the idea was scrapped for a stupid pizza mascot.

I personally think Gilbert owning one of the major sports teams downtown would be a good thing. And I think his approach would be similar to that of his investments in the city that he loves.

09/17/2018 - 5:08pm I believe it. And on another…

I believe it. And on another note, I was particularly frustrated by the sentiment from some of the more well-respected users here about the offense on Saturday. Saying things such as “this is a basic spread offense”, “the staff won’t captialize on DPJ’s talent and strengths”, and “square peg/round hole”.

After the first two series on offense ending in punts, the drives were as follows:

70+ yard drive to the SMU 12 before the defense made a great tip-toe INT on the sideline, touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, field goal, touchdown.

What the hell more are you asking of them to do? Seems to me the “basic” spread stuff was working just fine with a good mix of explosiveness from DPJ/Gentry/Evans and clock-churning, grinding it out. No need to unleash the playbook just yet.

And the staff isn’t going to fully utilize DPJ’s strengths? Well he just had a breakout, 3 TD performance featuring a deep shot, catch and run, and a fade route. He has 4 total in the past two weeks so let’s give the staff some credit, eh? The staff clearly took advantage of having him this Saturday so let’s see how the future unfolds before we bash the staff?

And square peg/round hole? Well other than anoth solid performance by Patterson and the offense, I also saw a QB converted to TE, whom the staff recruited for two weeks before committing, have a career receiving day.

The BAAWWWW and BPONE that Brian has alluded to the past couple weeks have been very tiring. We have a very manageable schedule heading into very winnable games against Wisconsin and MSU before our bye week, so let’s sit back, support the Team, and see what happens!

09/01/2018 - 11:39pm Team came out sluggish in…

Team came out sluggish in the first half. Made dumb penalties and gave up big plays. Offense in the fourth quarter looked like they were walking through mud. Why the fuck are we running play action on second and goal from the two yard line? Give it to the fullback and muscle it in!

Zero explosiveness from the offense despite having athletes all over. Where is the creativity? ND certainly had a lot of great plays called.

I simply don’t understand. Where is the fire that the 2015 and 2016 teams had?

08/27/2018 - 9:56pm With the chance of rain, I…

With the chance of rain, I think the winner will be whoever is leading at halftime. And in that case... ND 14 - 7 Michigan. Predicting that the Michigan offense comes out guns a' blaizin' and score a quick touchdown to start the game, but sputters against the ND defense the rest of the way. Think the ND offense is good for at least one touchdown, and then finds some way to score a BS one because of the home crowd.

Not really worthy of starting another thread, but I thought I’d ask the board when was the last time we saw a head coach in college football suspended for x number of games?

I’m having trouble recalling any in recent memory, which makes me think Urban will either be reinstated and can coach every game or he will be fired.

Graduated ‘17 and went in more than a few times and was never impressed by their food. Still sad to see it go. The State and Packard intersection has changed a lot in recent years. The Bell’s Pizza building was leveled and replaced with a new Domino’s, there was a Happy’s pizza on the corner that didn’t make it when I was there (was a BBQ place before that), etc. Even Pizza Bob’s is getting less and less popular. All they have going for them really is the milkshakes. Better and better restaurants are seemingly sprouting all over AA and are slowly replacing all the staples. Places like Piada, Frita Batidos, Neopaplis come to mind.  Luckily BTB should always remain as the #1 late night junk food spot.

How many recruits have we seen commit to a school early in their high school career (not only including Michigan, but across the country) only to decommit once or several times before NSD? No reason to freak out this early. Winning cures all and there’s a lot to be excited about this season.

I'm hoping Keith Washington makes some noise during camp. While I typically don't "root" for players, I'm pulling for him. I think he's been a fan favorite since we heard about him wanting to do a 40-yard dash in the parking lot as a recruit.

07/13/2017 - 8:58pm Maybe this isn't the perfect

Maybe this isn't the perfect thread for this question, but does anyone know if Evans is going to be taking snaps at Slot this year? I don't remember reading any concrete evidence of this in any reports this off season (I easily could have missed something though), and he played sparingly in the Spring Game. Brian alluded to it in HTTV, but he really only cited Evans playing Slot back in high school

07/08/2017 - 1:24pm This happens to me as well.

This happens to me as well. Though my trigger is pictures from the game(s). Actually talking about this year's OSU game or last year's MSU game doesn't do it for me, but when I look at pictures of our all-white road unis going up against Ohio State's alternate jerseys, my stomach sinks and I get really depressed. All the highlights and memorable moments play through my head. Only escape is to look away.

05/01/2017 - 2:28pm The ceremony on Saturday

The ceremony on Saturday really left a bad taste in my mouth. Other than the performances by the MTD School and the two men who worked with La La Land (I forget their names) and the video of graduating students talking about their experiences and love for the University, the entire ceremony was extremely underwhelming.

The student speakers were very bad in my opinion. The first of which blatantly lies that she was a graduating senior in Chemical Engineering. My buddy who is a ChemE was texting his class (less than 100 students) and no one knew who she was. Furthermore, her name wasn't included in the book of the graduating class. The next student speaker had a poorly written speech and used cliche sayings like "There are 26 letters in the alphabet but only one will change our lives forever." The third then just used the stage to brag about his own accomplishments, and it was extremely arrogant.

The biggest problem I had though with the ceremony is that the administration spent too much time celebrating the University. The video that was used as a replacement to a commencement speaker was a flop. It was very hard to understand, since the audio was so poor and they kept switching the speakers. The Bicentennial awards were pretty cool, but I honestly would have preferred to see several graduating students be honored. I would have loved to learn more about my class and their accomplishments. Also, President Schlissel's speech put the entire stadium to sleep.

And then to cap it all off, we didn't sing The Victors at ending like they had said we would. After we all left our seats and half of the class left through the tunnel, they finally played it.

Overall it was very poorly done. Luckily, my Ross commencement the day before was solid.

04/24/2017 - 2:34pm FWIW/Cool story bro

Jabrill was on campus over the weekend, and my buddies and I ran into him. We struck up a conversation, and he mentioned how his head has been in the right place all year and he wasn't about to do anything stupid before next week. Probably said so because we had been day drinking and obviously pretty messed up at that point. He was a very genuine and fun guy to talk to.
