It would be one thing to be projected as an 11 seed 2 weeks from now. It is not a good sign we are projected an 11 seed BEFORE the hardest stretch of our schedule.

We more than likely don't lose to Va Tech and Iowa with that defensive effort yesterday. With that being said, Illinois is a bad team with a lame duck coach. I'm going to need to see that level of intensity strung together for a few more games before I start believing this team is anything more than one of the last 4 out.
I'm still concerned at how gassed we looked down the stretch. Can we play that hard defensively for 40 minutes against Indiana, MSU or Purdue? I have my doubts.
And that's what happens when you out phsyical your opponent. Michigan so dearly wanted to play physical back even though they have no clue how to. So they over compenstated defensively.

During the National Championship run, we out talented opposing teams, JB did not out coach anyone.
I think that's becoming clearer by the day with JB. There is no coaching advantage and there's a strong argument there hasn't been one since Novak's senior year.
The Foul Discrepancy is a direct reflection of how physical Wisconsin plays around the basket. Something I wish JB would incorporate into his offense.

It was clear from the start Ward wanted to go right at Wilson and Wagner on the block. I imagine his thinking is, 1. Wilson and Wagner are horrible post defenders and 2. Get them in foul trouble early and Michigan has nothing behind them.
What's Michigan do to exploit another team's weakness? I'm honestly asking because it sure seems like we do the same thing every game which is do a passing drill around the perimeter until the shot clock gets below 8 and then force a shot.
Be careful what we wish for? Running a basketball program is not remotely close to running a football team.

Donlon is not involved in practice since the week leading up to Iowa. Just an FYI. JB has reverted to what he has always done, 100% offense all practice every practice.

This blog is fantastic. Ace relying solely on analytics for most of his reasoning kills me. What kills me more is there's a cult following for him and Brian. So when someone points out JB's philosophy is flawed, they will come back and go "Michigan has the 18th efficient offense in the nation" as if I give a crap about that when we are losing to 4 freshmen at Iowa.

He got blocked from help side coming over when he received the ball on cuts to the basket. There's a big difference.
I dare help side to come over and try to block Wagner's shot when he's posting up. Open 3 balls for days which is why I'd love to see a low post option utilized.

This loss is a direct reflection of how bad JB has recruited since the Elite 8. So it has everything to do with what he did...or didn't do.

Beginning of the year, the practice was probably 60% defense 40% offense. Just like it was last year in October.
2 week's ago, I didn't witness a single minute spent on defense. Just like it was last year in January.
