Rutgers fans: "This game is our National Championship"

Submitted by Decatur Jack on

Remember that time when Rutgers expected to go 10-2? Well, our most hated rival is at it again.

In honor of #RivalryWeek, here are a few particularly delusional comments from various Rutgers message boards, blogs, facebook threads, and forums that I copy-and-pasted for your viewing pleasure. (No, I don't care to link to any of them. If you care that much, go look them up for yourself.)

I think Rutgers, coming home, will be angry and motivated to show the Big Ten that they are no easy task.
All I can think of, though, is the last time Big Blue came to Piscataway. It was also a prime time game. And, guess what, we won that game for our first Big Ten victory and first Big Ten field rush at home.
Michigan isn't Ohio State. I don't expect a shutout.
GOD I FUCKIN HATE HARBAUGH. STAY OUT OF JERSEY YOU FUCKIN PRICK #FENCETHEGARDEN
Is anyone honestly expecting us to win this game? Count me in. Fuck Michigan
We beat Michigan once, we can do it again. I have faith in Coach Ash. Rutgers 45, Michigan 13
If there is one game, ONE GAME on the schedule we absolutely MUST WIN, it's this one. This game is our National Championship. Michigan is the worst p.o.s. program there ever was, we have to CRUSH them. They took Peppers and Gary, fuck those dickwads. I look for Coach Ash to shock the world with a HUGE UPSET.
I agree this game against Michigan is the most important game we may have ever played.
Guys where will you all be when the final score has us up 2TDs against Michigan?
Calling it. Gary gets ejected for targeting. Peppers tears his ACL in the first quarter. Poetic Justice.
If at any point the fuckin broadcast cuts to Partridge I swear to god I might punch the couch
Game Week against Paramus Catholic West. We got this.
once we win this game people will be talking about how coach ash is building something special in piscataway. huge signatures win!
If we break the shutout, as far as I'm concerned that's as good as a W. Michigan wants to shut us out, and if we score we will have proven they are worse than Ohio State.
Will someone tell me what time the game starts? I want to DVR this game so I can rewatch it 100 times when we upset Michigan
I don't care what anyone says this game is more important than Penn State or Maryland. Michigan is now my least favorite B1G team. I want to beat them sooooo bad
To any of those Rutgers fans who said they'd take Harbaugh over Ash, fuck you
I'm not even worried about TTFP game bc we will be favored after we beat Michigan
OSU made us angry, all that aggression now goes to Harbaugh. Get ready jackass, your stupid #4 ranked team is about to lose BIG
Hey guys Michigan fans think we should leave the B1G. I'm sure they'll feel even stronger about that after we beat them
Sooooo pumped for this game. #NationalChampionship
Why are you comparing this to the national championship?
[reply]Because it is.
Michigan is sooooo overrated. imo they were better last year. this year they are B+ at best
I don't care if we lose every other game as long as we beat harbaugh and partridge I can be happy

It's rivalry week. #BeatRutgers

it's what I pondered above: It makes no sense. They started this "rivalry" due to recruiting. They hated us taking Jersey kids they had zero shot at (ha). Ok, but Meyer and everyone else has done it, too! Meyer took Will Hill to Florida when Rutgers was somewhat good - for the first time in a century - and their HC was Meyer's current f**king DC.....that just raped them last weekend. Yet, they're cool with osu (lmfao). It doesn't make sense other than they wanting to build and they see us as a team that can technically be beat by them. Osu? No chance. They'll take that raping with a smile and hand over a few Jersey recruits for osu's trouble. Michigan? Grrrrrr! F**k Michigan and protect the garden grrrrrrrr! Our NC game, grrrrrrr! LOL.....it's comically insane in its lack of logic or consistency.

Isn't that completely infuriating to Ohio State fans?  Think about it:  they dominate Michigan for more than a decade, and yet all 14 fanbases in the conference are completely obsessed with Michigan.

I mean, if Ohio State's not important enough to hate, what can they possibly do to get to the point where Michigan is right now?

Well, yeah, that's my point though--they have dominated Michigan for over a decade, but the Big Ten is still obsessed with Michigan.  Nobody talks about OSU; everybody talks about Michigan.  Ohio State fans talk about Michigan, Rutgers fans talk about Michigan, Illinois fans talk about Michigan, MSU fans talk about Michigan, Michigan fans talk about Michigan.  That has to be kind of weird for them.

I mean, who wouldn't want their team to be the center of attention?  As a Michigan fan, you have to admit it's pretty awesome, right?  And if Ohio State can't be the center of attention after winning a national championship, how can it ever get there?

Good. The more battle tested we are the better off we will be against MSU, Iowa, and OSU.
We will see how their QB handles Dr. Blitz. Hopefully we can rep. Hill and Long. Maybe get O'Korn some too

suppose you were planning on betting on this game, and the only information about the teams were the thoughts put forth by the rival fanbases, how much money do you think would be placed on Rutgers for the straight-up win? Based on these comments, you'd have to believe they could beat anyone not named the Buckeyes, after all they held Iowa to 14 points and had the Hawkeyes on the ropes.

Then again, if Harbaugh says it's going to be treated like a championship game, it's a championship game.

I'm sure that's how Rutgers approached their game against mighty Howard.

But don't ask, "Howard who?" Because I don't know his last name.

God No!!! Not the dreaded couch punch. I fervently hope these Jersey aholes get to watch their team be humiliated on Saturday. And I hope karma takes care of the prick who is fantasizing about Peppers ACL getting blown. That is just Jersey af.

I would have really only cared about this game if it was somewhat close.  With all the Rutgers fans going ape shit about it, I'm actually more pumped for it than I would have been other wise.  I hope Michigan just destroys them with Gary and Peppers having huge games.  What is funny though, they seem to think that if not for Michigan, Rutgers would have gotten Peppers and Gary, which of course isn't true.  I did like this comment though, it made me laugh:

If at any point the fuckin broadcast cuts to Partridge I swear to god I might punch the couch
Too bad Rutgers wasn't smart enough to hire him on their own staff during the years he was coaching within the state...

It's coming to grips with the reality that you're not an elite football school. And you never will be.

When guys like Peppers and Gary have options to go to ANY SCHOOL THEY WANT, why in the name of all that is good and decent would you ever go to a shit hole program like Rutgers?

Meh they can hate us all day and even if they split the next 100 games (god i hope we're separate conference before then), i could never consider them a rival

Well, while I don't expect 58-0, I do expect to beat the spread. If they score it does not prove OSU is better. They're at home, at night, on National tv, and it's their National Championship. I can see 42-7 or so. I hate Rutgers.

All I'm going to say is this: as confident as I feel in us being able win, and in convincing fashion, Michigan had better come ready to play on Saturday night. And they'd better be ready for anything.

Ash knows this season is already over. His only player that any other team actually game plans for is out for the year, so don't think for one second that he isn't going to throw everything at us on Saturday night that he's got. Every trick play, Flea Flicker, Razzle Dazzle, and Statue of Liberty that he has. What other game is left on their schedule that winning would really move the needle for them at all?

Given how Rutgers has essentially adopted us as their arch rival, and how Ash came from OSU, they would NEVER allow us to forget it if we somehow lost. I know Harbaugh doesn't allow this team to take anyone lightly, but Rutgers is going to play that game like they have nothing to lose. Because they really don't.

looking ahead to their next weeks gave v. Illinois or the game could get lopsided in their favor rather quickly.  But I suspect the fans confidence is a little higher than the players.

To the Rutgers fans out there, First we will beat your team. Then we will take the best recruits from your state. Then we will ignore you despite you thinking we're rivals. And there isn't a damn thing you can do about it. Haha. Rutgers is the new Illinois

Oct 15th 2011 Rutgers vs Navy

Rutgers blocks a last second field goal to beat Navy. How did Rutgers fans decide to celebrate?

As the Navy kids headed into the tunnel, they were pummelled by....spit. And not just a few Rutgers fans, almost any fan that was in range of the tunnel was spitting on the Navy players. There's video of it somewhere I'm too lazy to look up.

From that moment forward, I hated Rutgers. I'm sure they have some nice fans and alumni but that moment was just burned into my brain. Fuck them, fuck their school. If Harbaugh opted to drop 100 on them I'd be totally ok with that.

This is why I disagree with the false equivalence between Rutgers and Maryland - sure, most of us didn't really want either one in the B10, but at least Maryland brings something to the party - decent academics, decent non-football athletics and not a fecking disgrace that counted documented assholes like Julie Herrman, Mike Rice and Greg Schiano as employees.

Maryland and Rutgers are both the weird dudes nobody knows whom your douchebag Uncle Jim brought to your house party before taking off.  But at least Maryland had the grace to bring its own beer and is attempting to socialize with your guests.  Rutgers is that guy who is drunkenly pawing all of your women friends, crashing the beer pong and losing, and there's a pee streak that runs down from his oversized acid-washed jeans and dribbles down to his lime green Crocs.
