09/15/2018 - 10:58pm What an incredible meltdown.

What an incredible meltdown.

09/15/2018 - 7:49pm It's not accurate to say…

It's not accurate to say everyone starts bitching when Michigan gives up more than one score. I think its fair to measure the quality of the opponent. SMU lost to UNT 46-23 and while I understand we're not supposed to supply the transitive property, I don't think anyone would seriously argue that we weren't supposed to blow their doors off.

The D flat out underperformed and the 3rd down situation is becoming a trend. If we're giving up 50% conversion rates to 0-3 teams like SMU during non-garbage time. Should OSU, PSU, and MSU get 100%?

09/15/2018 - 7:25pm That was all kinds of bad…

That was all kinds of bad. At one point early in the fourth quarter SMU was 5-10 on 3rd down conversions.....SMU....50%. I mean seriously, are the data analysts not seeing Don Brown's defense has been downloaded on third down? His tendencies and strategies are a known quantity and it shows. It's time to overhaul the habits or every game is going to end up like PSU last year. The 3rd down and long tendencies are particularly galling at this point.

It reminds me of when our offense couldn't score TDs in the red zone. Ugh...

03/18/2018 - 12:08pm Not really

Married 18 years and I got the "You're acting like a child" yell from the other room and I gave exactly zero fucks. She's been saying that every year for 18 years and I expect in about 2 more years she'll just stop.

03/05/2018 - 12:51pm Selfish

For completely selfish reasons, I would love to see Michigan come out west :).

01/04/2018 - 3:15pm A couple things

By all accounts this is terrible and since he was fired we can assume that portions of this story must have been corroberated but one thing caught my eye that doesn't pass the smell test. Melissa talks about an incredibly toxic environment, players sending her innapropriate photos (dick pics), all the lying, the cheating, etc. Then on page 3 we find out her daughter works for the team as an equipment manager. In what fucking universe would you let your child work in a culture like that? Melissa had been working in what can only be described as a hostile work environment for years but it was ok for the offspring?

Maybe the devil is in the details on that particular component but sheesh....

12/26/2017 - 1:55am Hosting = Control

For the first sevenish years of my marriage, my wife and I would travel to various family members homes and take part in holiday festivities which involved wild swings between Christmas being nothing more than a gift exchange (no decorations, no turkey, no tree FFS, etc) to World War 3 political discussions that completely ruined the day for everyone involved.

So roughly ten years ago we decided we'd had enough and we started hosting every year with two very clear rules in place for both sides of the family (roughly 35-40 people each year):

1 - It's Christmas - Behave, dress, and bring appropriate holiday faire (Do not get shit faced, dont wear your bathrobe/sweats, don't bring some crazy ass food you want everyone to experiment with)

2 - No politics. Period. Come prepared to engage, play games with your relatives, and stay off your fucking phone. You can abuse the shit out of it 364 other days in the year.

Since then, Christmas has been fantastic even with the relatives I normally can't stand. The day goes quick, the games are fun as hell, and everyone has a great time and the food is fabulous because we know what to expect. It's about the day and for 12-14 hours we can all get along and have a good time. Thank God for that....

12/25/2017 - 2:11am Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas Everyone.

May you have a meaningful and enjoyable day.

11/19/2017 - 2:58pm You sir

Deserve all the upvotes. Make sanity great again.

11/18/2017 - 3:42pm The unmitigated stupidity of

The unmitigated stupidity of some of the posters here has quite possibly reduced Mgoblog to Mlive. To lack all context as to why we lost THIS game and then make it part of some collective narrative is just pig ignorant.

11/13/2017 - 2:27pm Cheating

Cheating in colleges, especially online, is comically out of control. I've gone back to school recently and I was simply appalled at the scope and unapologetic nature of it.

On a possibly related note as someone who routinely hires college gradutes, the quality of candidates has dropped exponentially over the past 6-7 years. The failure rate on my technical exam in interviews is nearing roughly 90% (context: the failure rate used to be closer to 50%). While the sample size is rather small (several hundred interviews), I think it's enough to show a trend and something my peers have mentioned as well.

11/01/2017 - 12:34pm Why

Why don't you love your children? Why would you do that to them?

Has anyone called CPS?

10/16/2017 - 6:14pm I respectfully disagree

I think PSU will get away with 11 men in the box. Book it.

10/08/2017 - 8:48am I'm with you on the

I'm with you on the frustration. I predicted 9-3 this year thinking that the defense would be more of an issue. I think what's making people so angry is we see a "what could have been" scenario playing out where we have this incredible defense, who once again pitched a second half shut out, and a poor offense that I don't think anyone could have predicted. Issues? Sure ....but this?

Someone else posted this a few weeks ago during Purdue so I apoligize but the difference between Drevno and Fisch is stark. The creativity left with him apparently. The seam routes, post routes, double WR pick formations, train formation, the list goes on. The kids looked like they were having *FUN* playing in that offense. What we have now is completely devoid of any creative elements coupled with laughably bad situational awareness. Like going over the top once for a TD that was called back on a hold and then doing nothing with that knowledge until a monsoon strikes.

I don't think there's anything to be salvaged at this point. We lost to an MSU squad that is a patchwork of walk ons and first timers. The idea that this offense can score on PSU, Wisconsin, or OSU at all is just a dream. We'll be 8-4 and that's if we're lucky because at this point I'm not even confident they could drive the ball against Indiana. As much as the offense has regressed, so has my ability to care. What's the point? To watch a defense go out and play at national championship level only to have the offense lose (I think the MAC analogies are kind at this point) the game? No thanks. I have better things to do than die a thousand deaths every time our offense takes the field. I'll enjoy my Saturdays and read the box score.

09/02/2017 - 3:03pm Maryland Injuries

They won't have any players left by the time they play us...yeesh

09/02/2017 - 1:11pm So Maryland...wow

So Maryland...wow

06/27/2017 - 11:59am Or

Or just use Epic Privacy Browser and disable 90% of playable video.

06/06/2017 - 3:02pm Um...

I'm old enough to remember when MSU players assaulted an entire frat in 2009 and how the footage from the event was mysteriously never seen. I'm also old enough to remember Roderick Jeanrette. I could sit here make a list here of all the transgressions that have occured on Dantonio's watch and it would be quite long at this point. In some cases with little to no action being taken.

They have had more than few bad apples. The program has performed well, sure. The culture has been dirty on and off the field since Dantonio arrived.

05/09/2017 - 6:32pm Patience

It took a while to get there. My first day back after 20+ years off I did 600 yards and practically had to be carried out of the pool. I layed on my couch motionless for hours after that. I built up into that regimen methodically over roughly 12 months.

05/09/2017 - 4:49pm Maybe it's just me

But I find that the diet thing just isn't true to an extent. You can eat whatever you want. Just do it in moderation. There are monuments to me at my work for my noted love of fast food.  I didn't change my diet at all and lost 50 pounds on just exercising 3.5 hours a week. Tweaked my diet to remove carbonated drinks and lost another 10 pounds.

Different things work for different people. I know myself well enough to know I have no desire to give up food I enjoy eating whereas other people have no problem giving up foods or completely changing their food lifestyle to lose weight. For the people who have the discipline to give up foods, good for them, heck some of them dont even have to exercise and they can lose weight/stay healthy.

05/09/2017 - 4:35pm Different Attack Vectors for Different People

I know myself too well. I have zero discipline in the food department. Therefore I must exercise. A swimming lifestyle is a lot easier for me to maintain than a salad lifestyle.

05/09/2017 - 4:29pm Getting Better

Took twenty years off exercising to raise a family and focus on their needs. Ballooned to 250 pounds (I'm 6'2). Kids are out of college now and decided being fat is bullshit and started working out again. After 18 months I'm down to 190. I eat whatever I want, when I want. I'm prepared to pay for that with exercise.

I swim Mon-Wed-Fri with a light Sunday workout

2.5 miles in one hour (interval based training, high intensity aerobic, 6-8 minutes rest during the entire session). Sunday is fun day. I do about a mile and half of mostly anaerobic training (sprints) and allocate 30 minutes to get it done. These workouts are long enough to get the job done and short enough to where I'm not dreading heading to the pool or ever feel like I'm grinding.

No weights (former ACL tear, collar bone break don't play nice with weight training). I had absolutely no intention of ever competing again I just wanted to lose weight when I started. A buddy of mine convinced me to qualify for Masters Nationals, I did. I competed and I loved it. I even ran into my old Michigan coach Jon Urbanchek there (still coaching!). That alone made this entire experience infinitely more rewarding.

I've hit my fitness goals. I'm satisified with 190 going forward.

05/06/2017 - 9:09pm A million times this. Devin

A million times this. Devin deserved better. There were alwasy glimpses, I think Harbaugh would have turned that into consistency.

04/06/2017 - 4:44pm One of the True Greats

One of the greats. His equal in this day and age would be Dave Chappelle. Their willingness to cross racial, religious, poitical, and other boundaries is an art unto itself, they make it look easy.

I loved that he never discriminated, everyone was fair game. I also loved that when the jokes were over, he always....*always* completely humbled himself before the host or honoree of the event and said something meaningful and heartfelt. In a way, contextualizing all the comments that had come before that moment. I will miss him.

03/28/2017 - 5:20pm LOL

14:22!? holding :52 per 100 free sixteen times!?

4:08?

1:32?

That is so absolutely ridiculously fast AND a freshman. I'd love to see how that kid trains to do what he does.

01/31/2017 - 5:23pm Well

Good Point. The FP school thing usually takes care of itself as I have yet to have *one* person who made it to the in person interview process with a degree from a FP school pass the technical test.

01/31/2017 - 3:39pm Good Convo

As some others have alluded to, what happens after you're admitted and finish your school work doesn't always translate to the real world.

Working in upper management in IT for as long as I have has allowed me to come to the following conclusions about degrees in general (in computer fields).

  • Having a degree typically doesn't matter unless you plan on going "C" level
  • Having a degree from a prestigious campus doesn't mean s*** if you can't pass my basic technical interview questions
  • As long as the school is accredited, you get out of your education what you put into it
  • Good teachers, just like good managers, matter

Reading this thread has been great. I've been pleasantly surprised with the mostly civil back and forth regarding satellite campuses. As someone who hires engineers semi regularly, I honestly don't care where you went to school or even if you were self taught. If you have the skills, it will show when I put you through the paces.

Does it matter if your degree says University of Michigan - AA? Most likely only to you and maybe some lawyers or banking types if you go that route (as someone else mentioned). Otherwise, no one cares.

01/30/2017 - 2:39pm Oy Vey

M Go Cue...I'm not sure I would have chosen this hill to die on, but I agree with a general sentiment. The overtly political nature of some comments and threads is starting to kill my enjoyment here. MGoBlog has practically been sacred to me *because* of the fact that for so long it has managed to steer clear of politics which I *reeealllly* appreciate.

I don't need MGoBlog for politics. I can get that nonsense from thousands of other places including, family, friends, co-workers, TV, blogs, news sites, social media and every other fucking place I can't seem to escape from. Politics on a sports blog is just 100% pure columbian cancer.

All that being said, I've always supported Spencer's charity. I'll probably still support it but if the rhetoric keeps heating up, my enthusiasm and dollars can go to other charities who do the same work.

01/23/2017 - 5:55pm I was totally OK with

I was totally OK with training in Rio over winter break. Granted this will be a little more expensive than that...

12/27/2016 - 2:42pm Or

Or anyone who failed their World History class(es).

12/25/2016 - 1:54am Nice

Eloquently stated sir. Couldn't have stated my own sentiments about this blog any better. I'm grateful for it as well.

Well done.

12/21/2016 - 11:30pm Hmmm

I never thought about it until I saw you write this. I absolutely should have kept that letter.

What a huge day that was in my life. I did manage to keep all the recruiting letters I recieved because that seemed fun but nothing shaped my life more than that U of M acceptance letter. My world was instantly changed.

Drat...

12/13/2016 - 1:49pm Allegedly

If there is actual video evidence, it's a slam dunk. If the video doesn't exist, the case will be almost impossible to win.

12/04/2016 - 3:14am The conference championship

The conference championship games are fucking bullshit to begin with. I like the way the Big12 is doing it.

If PSU makes it into the top 4 there is no justice in this world. It should go as follows:

1. Alabama

2. OSU

3. Washington

4. Clemson

5. Michigan

6. PSU

I cannot fathom the comittee putting PSU ahead of us with that curb stomping they took in Ann Arbor.

11/13/2016 - 11:36am Unless

Unless you're North Dakota State, Northwestern, or Wisconsin.

11/13/2016 - 2:25am We'll drop to 6th or possibly

We'll drop to 6th or possibly 7th behind Wisconsin.

11/13/2016 - 2:04am A Well Earned Loss

The offense wasn't clicking. The play calling was way too cute for 2 quarters. Speight picked a hell of a day to have his worst game (and appears to be injured now). Every deep ball was over or underthrown. The deep bombs were all 2-3 yards long.

The defense was gashed repeatedly on the ground and Don Brown got RPS'd at the worst possible moments by a complete failure of an OC. Speaking of OCs, holy shit what was that from Jed Fisch?

Just disappointing all around. At every single level there was more than enough failures to go around. OC/DC/Head coach/players. At least it's a team loss.

10/26/2016 - 3:23pm Heh

They ARE ambassadors of the program, you and I agree on that. Which is why they shouldn't use that platform to forward PERSONAL opinions.

I guess I should have taken a knee on the pooldeck at Canham to protest the Iraq war in 92? Would I have my Michigan Man street cred then? Do I represent the views of the school or its alumni? Of course not. I represent myself and MY beliefs. I have basically forfiet my goodwill by projecting personal views into my role as an ambassdor for the school. It has no place in athletics.

10/25/2016 - 4:53pm Huh?

This has nothing to with whether they're protesting violently or not. A lot of those emails are unfortunate but the last one was spot on.

The issue is this:

While those indiividuals certainly have the right to express themselves, they do not explicity have the right to put on that uniform and then protest in a way that does not represent the university or it's opinion, of which there shouldn't be one. In other words, your (or their in this case) opinion does not represent the opinion of the university or its alumni and therefore has no place in that setting.

If they want to protest they can join any number of activist groups on campus, *out of uniform* and express their right to protest any social injustices. It also is a disservice to the kids that are protesting because they may feel this is ok to do in private or public sector jobs. The vast majority of employers, were they to pull a stunt like this on their future job, would get fired immediately. Does YOUR opinion represent the opinion of your company at large in regards to social issues? More than likely no and even if it did, they may not want YOU using your position in such a way to represent the views of the company.

10/24/2016 - 2:21pm Yup

Completely agree. Whatever MSU can muster in pride, effort, and focus will be expended this Saturday to beat Michigan.

Dantonio is the master of #disrespect. I expect his kids will be highly, *highly* motivated to win this game.

10/18/2016 - 12:04am I Like

I like everyone's optimism. That said, I can't shake that I think the game will be much closer than everyone expects. This will be their bowl game whether they actually qualify for one or not and Dantonio always has his kids hyper amped for this game.

I'm not even exaggerating when I say I think Dantonio would go vanilla against Maryland and risk the loss to use the two weeks to prepare for the Michigan game. They have nothing else to play for at this point. It's Michigan or nothing. I watched their D mail it in against BYU and Northwestern....that will absolutely not happen against us.

I'm also genuinely concerned about injuries. With all the emperical evidence we've seen in the Dantonio regime over the years, I would not put it past them to try and injure a few UM players with cheap shots like we used to see against Robinson.

I just want a win, spread doesn't matter, and get the fuck out of there without injuries.
