One year ago today the world decreased in value
The world is just not the same place without this legendary human being. RIP ðŸ˜

I do miss him. He was a treasure. Not nearly enough people like him

Thought this was going to be some sort of inflation post. Leach was a legend. GOAT pressers.
December 13th, 2023 at 7:34 AM ^
This post was so much more convincing than I was expecting. Inflation was also my first thought, and then some hotshot tech CEO. RIP, Coach.

You know, there’s something to be said for being your authentic self and not giving a shit what the detractors think while doing it in a way without malice or discriminatory intent.
Leach walked a fine line and had some odd interactions for sure, but in most cases, he was adored by his players, coaches and media types around CFB. He also had visionary style offensive strategies throughout his career.

The video where he gives advice to his soon-to-be son in law is priceless
December 12th, 2023 at 7:51 PM ^
Holy cow! I was given that advice once and I have given that advice many times. I love this guy more and more. I always appreciated his random thoughts.

Your video led me directly to this one. An absolutely brilliant monologue about dinosaurs, evolution, natural selection, and the importance of hands. I love how he goes on such a meandering tangent but eventually relates it all back to football. Masterful.

Genius!
He may not have known it, but the reduction in arm size he describes was a potential example of the Probable Mutation Effect, posited by Michigan's C. Loring Brace from whom I took Anthro 161.

C Loring Brace was quite the legend himself. One of the most unique professors I took a class from.

I mean, there are talented stand up comedians that would kill to riff like that!
December 12th, 2023 at 7:35 PM ^
Yeah, I though this was a global economic measurement thing I'm never heard. RIP Mike Leach--I do need to admit that I've never gotten the board's worshipful love for that man. I guess it's all just based on the amusingly reactionary press conferences?
December 12th, 2023 at 7:54 PM ^
He came off as an affable dude who helped young men develop and spun stories anyone can enjoy. The kind of dude that other dudes want to hang out with. Hence, the reverence.
December 12th, 2023 at 9:06 PM ^
Your comment seems a little reductionist to assume that folks just like him for his goofy press conferences and interviews. And to the casual observer, you may be right but I’d suggest reading up a little about him and how he influenced a very large group of people involved in the sport.
He wasn’t a perfect coach by any account but he was himself 100% of the time and after he passed, many inside his personal circles were able to share those deeper connections. In a time where pretty much every college HC seems to only know coachspeak, he was a breath of fresh air(raid).
December 12th, 2023 at 10:03 PM ^
Okay. But everyone else in this thread is mentioning, if not showing videos, of his off-the-cuff press conference remarks. That seems more the focus than anything else. Which is fine! I guess I just don't get how that equates to "One year ago today the world decreased in value." I'd reserve praise like that for Dr. Martin Luther King, or someone of that nature. Maybe it's hyperbole? If so, that still works against your point. But whatever...
December 12th, 2023 at 10:56 PM ^
But wouldn't any follower of the great Dr. King believe that every life has value? And, if so, wouldn't they agree with the OP that Leach's death (or any death for that matter) is a loss for the world? 😊

Sir, this is a Wendy’s
December 13th, 2023 at 4:34 AM ^
Exactly--so what's with all the Mike Leach talk? Just gimme my double bacon cheeseburger and fries, so I can go home, get high, and watch Buckaroo Banzai again.

one of the good guys.
a cosmic prirate
December 12th, 2023 at 8:00 PM ^
Miss him as well. Refreshing voice. Struck me as a guy who knew what he was doing and was good at it without taking himself too seriously.

He was tailor made to take over for Corso on Gameday when he retired from coaching...
December 13th, 2023 at 8:50 AM ^
I never thought about that. He would've single handedly made Gameday a much better show.
December 12th, 2023 at 8:11 PM ^
I'm gonna go find a fat little girlfriend in his honor.

I was expecting Meechie (turns out it was 12/9.) RIP to both of them.

When Spurrier retired, there left a hole in the world of post game pressers..... Mike Leach stepped up and took over the reign.
