Just stop it, man. Every year we keep saying this is when MSU is finally steps back into irrelevance, and they just keep getting stronger and stronger. Sure, their season was largely defined by luck, but they're still playing for a national title.

Dantonio has beaten Urban 2 times in the last 4 years, and we continually get our asses kicked by them. I think you're being a little ignorant by saying they'll be a bug on the windshield soon enough. As much as I'd like you to be right, though....

MSU has been good the last few years when we have been down. They beat on a once in a lifetime miracle play and the worst one-sided officiated game I think I have ever seen.
State has benefited from our program hitting the lowest point in 40-50 years. Carr didn't recruit as well his last couple of years...massive attrition to Rodriguez and a complete overhaul. Then two more coaching transitions. All of this devastated our recruiting and left the pot a lot thicker for Sparty. Thankfully Hoke improved the recruiting somewhat, and we are seeing the results of that along with the great coaching.
State will not continue to be good with OSU, ND, and now Michigan hitting on all cylinders on the field and with recruiting.

I don't think that Meyer did anything incredible or had some awesome offense.  He just did what Indiana did - catch our third string D-line and go tempo. He trapped those guys on the field and they wore down.  At that point, we were pretty much done.  IU did the exact same thing, just without the quality of athletes or a functional defense.

In fact, Meyer didn't really go to this until the second half.  If anything, he had a shit gameplan for a game and a half, and then was saved by something that Kevin Wilson had done two weeks before.

I think Brown will be just fine.

This hire plus a bowl win will put Michigan in the preseason Top 10 and probably we'll be co-favorites to win the conference.

With this much press love for the Brown hire coming in and a highly ranked and touted recruiting class, UM might even be a pre-season Top 5 time (which I don't believe will be deserved...but it has been a looooong time)

The first two games of that 2007 pre-conference season never happened.  I forget why, but I'm positive that the season opener and the game against Oregon were cancelled.  I think the players had exams, or something.  The details are foggy at this point.

that 1981 team was loaded. Steve Smith completed 6 of 18 passes in that opening day game against Wisconsin...3 to Michigan players and 3 to Wisconsin players...

EDIT: i had to slightly refresh my memory of the other teams that we lost to that year (I was pretty sure that it was Iowa and Ohio State but I checked) but not the discusiion we had prior to the Iowa loss.

Given that we had loss to Wisconsin, there was a big early season discussion on whether it was actually better for Michigan that Wisconsin win the B10...because a 10-1 Michigan would probably have had the opportunity to play for a natty.

Of course, that was rendered moot with the loss to Iowa that year...and one could argue that the Iowa win that year was the biggest win of Hayden Fry's career and it broke up the Big 2 Little 8 lock on Big 10 titles.

some relevance to this discussion - I am watching M v. Indiana on BTN right now. Man, I would like to have Rudock for one more year. Pending his bowl game performance, I think one NFL team is going to find a diamond in the rough with a mid-late round pick.

I agree. Rudock needs to GOMAD and go to a team that needs competition or a backup prospect that they can get in the 7th or as an UDFA. He takes care of the ball and has an arm and has shown adaptability and improvement. Biggest drawbacks I see are that he is Bradylike scrawny for the NFL and he was a little late to making decisions, especially early in the season.

I think he may have a ceiling of Ryan Tannehill or Andy Dalton and a floor of Matt Cassel or Kyle Orton but only if he gets more durable and gets time and reps. He has a lot of the stuff scouts love - lots of starts, increasing completion percentage, ability to make all the throws + scramble, good character, etc. I hope the Lions give him a shot with only Orlovsky on the roster behind Stafford.

Listen, I love the job Rudock did for us late in the year.  He was a warrior. I'd hate to think where we would have been without him in 2015.  But to say that his floor is two QBs who have thrown for 17,000 and 18,000 NFL yards is just delusional.  His floor is as a guy who doesn't stick in the league at all.  Cassel and Orton are much more likely to be the ceiling than the floor.

we are a top 15 team right now. If we beat Florida I think we will be a Top 10 team regardless of any other factors. You are looking too much into the margin of loss against OSU. The team ran out of gas in the 2nd half. They had been playing in a suffocating pressure cooker since the State game and were playing with a half of a defensive line. [Edit - I did not see I was responding to BamFan Troll. The post makes sense now that I see the poster].

maybe at worst in the 10-15 range. Returning most of our starters, a QB who at worst should be the level of a proven John O'Korn and the famous Year Two of an elite head coach.

I bet most will have us in the 7-10 range and we'll be a sexy pick for the CFP for the talking heads

Since when do the people who do the rankings care one bit about holes and gaps in a roster in their preseason rankings? It seems like the rankings are just a bunch of hype and have no substance to them. If we beat FL and finish a top 10 team this year, with Brown joining Harbaugh and a top 5 recruiting class and a boatload of seniors, our hype will be too good for the likes of the AP to pass up.

Look how much Ruddock progressed under Harbaugh's system.  He started shaky and took time to get in sync with the receivers.  By the end of the year he was outstanding.

O'Korn has had a full year under Harbaugh running the scout team (and everything I've heard is he's been doing a bang-up job of it).  He could start next Spring in similar footing to end of year Ruddock.

THAT would be outstanding...

If our Wolverines find consistent production @ the QB, RB, & LB positions, we can beat anyone on our schedule.

I am very interested to see who the guy is coming out of spring ball.

At least our backs should become more proficient in picking up blitzes! Now if we can only find a QB who can throw accurately more than 15 yards downfield and/or an RB who can see the running lanes opening.......
