OSU/MSU What to root for.
Walking into work this morning (NY State) two people seperately accosted me with a devilish "So you're rooting for Ohio State to win this weekend?" I replied that I wouldn't mind seeing State lose, but that I was not rooting for Ohio State. The Freep (no link) had an article asking former Michigan players if they were rooting for OSU and everyone except Jake Long and Jake Ryan said they definitely were not.
What is the best most clever retort to this catch 22 question?

I don't get it either. Rooting for MSU has the practical and functional effect of rooting against Michigan.

The only thing that preserves UM's chances at winning a division title this weekend is a UM win. If UM beats PSU, they will still have a shot at the division title on the 28th no matter what happens in the OSU/MSU game. If Michigan wins out, they need MSU to lose one more game - whether that's OSU or PSU. Obviously, this weekend looks like a better chance for MSU to lose but an MSU in Columbus doesn't end UM's title division chances.

On first read I thought you said, "not sure how this is even A question". I was going to go all literal on you and say it is a question because "Who should i root for?" starts with a "who" and ends with a "?". But since you said "IN" before question, I've got nothing.

Why is this hard? Yes, I'm rooting for Ohio State. I also feel a desire to give a swift kick in the balls to anyone who chortles "I'm not rooting for Ohio State to win, I'm rooting for Michigan State to lose! Hur hur hur."
So clever.

think rooting for OSU proves that State is relevant. Rooting for OSU in this game does not say anything about State except that we just need them to lose to advance our own interests. It really does not have anything to do with State other than that. It is now officially an old bit.

This x100. I don't get how people take this rivalry so seriously they can't bring themselves to root for whatever is in Michigan's best interest.
How fun will next week be if both UofM and OSU win on Saturday.

I would say root for OSU to beat MSU 83-0. That would definitely be another dagger to help put MSU back in their place. OSU will always be good. But if MSU slinks back to the weeds, it will be better for us.

Also, Braxton Miller, JT Barrett, Ezekiel Elliott, Joey Bosa, Darron Lee, and Cardale Jones all suffer season-ending pregnancies.

As for the pregnancies, well played.

like we do now, we would have won easily against MSU. Our WR & TE were wide open most of the time against MSU. If Rudock was in the zone like he is now, he would have hit more of the open downfield targets and we would have won by at least 14.

assumes that Cook is going to play. He was absolutely not right after that injury last week and they have not discussed at all whether he had x-rays etc., despite being questioned directly about it. It may not be an injury that results in him being held out but it was not an insignificant injury either. His arm looked shot after it happened and I don't know how you go from that to "not an issue" in 6 days with that injury.

I want to see Ohio St win and Dantonio cry. Then I want to see us beat the shit out of Ohio St and Urban Meyer cry.

Other than meteor, I am definitely rooting for Ohio State and I don't have a problem saying it, even to my Ohio State-fan coworker (who is extremely nice about it--I might clarify that she is from Ohio but didn't go to OSU).
I am rooting for Michigan's best interest, which is an Ohio State win: to put winning the Big Ten into our control, and to give us the opportunity to mirror 1969 and knock off an undefeated defending-national champion Ohio State. For bonus points, there's even a slim chance of making the CFP, and that is best increased by our beating an undefeated OSU and having MSU out of the picture.
I said this in a previous thread, but I think it's worth repeating: to me, the OSU rivalry, though it's bigger, is supposed to be a rivalry of football equals. In my perfect world, OSU is good, but we beat them. MSU is not: it's a fun rivalry, but MSU should not be good. Basically, my perfect world has John Cooper coaching Ohio State and Bobby Williams coaching MSU (or maybe John L. Smith for some extra entertainment value). OSU may be the bigger rival, but I'd love to see OSU destroy MSU, and help speed the transition to the way things are supposed to be.

i thought this had been firmly established.
i hope the suckeyes run it up on them. Embarrass them. Make d'antoni cry. Then we can do the same to Urban next week.

It's college football. If you're truly rooting for an 18-22 year old to be injured, you need to take a good hard look at your life.
