Poll: Which Michigan Road/Neutral Games Have You Attended?

Submitted by UNCWolverine on

Tomorrow night will be my 19th road/neutral Michigan game, including 4th straight road opener. I'm 8-10. Here's my list:

2015 Utah
2014 ND
2013 Northwestern
2012 Alabama
2012 ND
2012 Purdue
2012 Virginia Tech
2009 Iowa
2007 USC
2004 ND
2004 Purdue
2001 Washington
2000 UCLA
2000 Purdue
2000 Northwestern
1999 Wisconsin
1998 Northwestern
1998 Washington State
1997 Indiana

I should add we only lost those three games in 2000, and by a combined 7 points. Saw three goal posts come down that fall. Had I not gone we might have won another national championship.

So what's your list?

2000 Citrus Bowl vs. Auburn
2003 Rose Bowl vs. USC
2004 Rose Bowl vs. Texas
2005 Iowa
2005 Northwestern
2006 Notre Dame
2006 Rose Bowl vs. USC
2007 Capital One Bowl vs. Florida
2010 Gator Bowl vs. Mississippi State

Highlights: Watching Notre Dame fans silently march out of the stadium after Manningham shredded their #2 ranked team was the best. Lloyd pulling out all the stops to take out Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer then carried out by his team was unforgettable.

Lowlights: Still wonder what could've been if Braylon had caught that first quarter bomb from Navarre against the loaded Leinart/Bush Trojans. Still can't believe that Dusty Mangum kick was good despite Ernest Shazor getting a piece of it. Everything about the Gator Bowl in 2010.

Whoa. I just noticed that tomorrow is my third straight road opener too. Can't wait to see us win one of these. I've been to some tough road games over the last few years. At least the Northwestern game turned out good - that Rutgers game was no fun. And neither was the UConn game - even though we had won.

The Outback Bowl was a tough one too - we definitely played tough in that one. I really thought we were going to pull that one out. Maybe I should stop going to road games. LOL

While my bucket list has me catching a UM game at every B1G stadium, I still have some work to do. I'm crossing my fingers on timing as I might be able to cross Minnesota off the list this year, as I'll be in MN this fall on a date TBD for my new godson's baptism. (He's due in September and the date of his baptism remains TBD). With Wisconsin coming back on the schedule soon, I'll be able to cross off that one too.

Here's the ones I've been to (pretty much all Northwestern as its half an hour away):

2014 - M00N @ Northwestern

2013 - Dileo Slide @ Northwestern

2009 - The goal line failure @ Illinois (aka the Soul Dong Punch game)

2007 - Won 28-16 @ Northwestern, Lloyd Carr's final season

2005 - Won 33-17 @ Northwestern after a 2nd half shutout of the Cats.

1998 - Won 12-6 @ Northwestern

1996 - Blew a 16 point 4th quarter lead @ Northwestern

Other sports:

Ice Hockey - 2001 Cold War @ MSU Spartan Stadium

Basketball - 2013 Mens Basketball @ Northwestern

It was not so much excruciating as it was just this bizarre theater of the absurd.  I remember making my way back to the El with my buddy and we just were laughing in disbelief that we scored 51 points and lost....to Northwestern.

Excuciating was sitting in a cold, drizzle in Iowa City watching Michigan slog it out with Iowa 12-9.  Excruciating was freezing your ass off in West Lafayette while losing to Purdue 9-3 when Michigan had the ball on the goal line and Lloyd Carr decides to try and have Will Carr do his best Refrigerator Perry impression and barrel in for the go-ahead score only to fumble.

Indiana Blue

but here are two that occured in 1986 that suddenly come to mind ....

at Indiana  and  at Nore Dame

#4 at QB and 2 Michigan victories.  The IU game is memorable to me because Harbaugh ran an unbelievable option play when he ran some 35 yards downfield only to have an IU player catch up with him ... and as he was just getting tackled he calmly flipped the ball to his tailback that had been following him the entire way ... TD Michigan !

If Carr doesn't immediately drop the ball when he runs into Okeafor, part of me wants to believe that the game turns out differently.

What I remember more is that it was earlier that week that Tony Colletto said he was not returning as Purdue's head coach, and then they promptly go out and beat their first Top 10 opponent since the mid-1980s - us.

I went to Dallas to watch UofM v Alabama.

I saw M in Evanston 3 times.

O.P.

I'm nearly positive that while the students tried to rip down the goal posts in Evanston in 2000 they were ultimately unsuccessful. The engineers claimed the posts were too reinforced but also non-athlete NU students are not the brawniest in the Big Ten.

I've only been to two (although I aim to change that!).... both the last two Northwestern games in Evanston. They were both horrible displays of comedy.  #M00N

I wouldn't put too much stock in your record to date unless you went to games at Northwestern, Purdue, or Indiana. We haven't won at Ohio State since 2000, at PSU since 2006, at MSU since 2007, and at Iowa since 2005. I didn't include Wisconsin because we have played them so infrequently over the last decade, but we haven't won in Madison since 2001. The last decade has been pretty dark.

2005 Alamo Bowl. Not sure if anyone else did this, but the Lions played the Katrina-displaced Saints in San Antonio the Sunday prior. Had some family in SA so we made a Christmas vacation trip out of it and went to both games. Lions won on a last second Hanson field goal after a hail mary bomb from Joey Harrington to Roy Williams. Oh, the memories.

2010 @ Indiana. Met some buds who live in Louisville halfway. Was part of one of those 5-0 starts under Rich Rod, during Denard's first-half-Heisman run. Good game, think it was 42-35.

2013 @ MSU. Full disclosure, my son attends MSU and my wife and some fellow Sparty parents thought it would be "fun" to go to this game. Worst. Day. Ever. Weather sucked. Team sucked worse. Everything else about the day sucked even worse-er.

Might do Indiana again this year. Would love to do a Chicago/Northwestern trip, and hit some of the big future road games, especially Washington but also UCLA, Texas, maybe even Florida @ Jerry World.

2012 Nebraska (Denard goes down early, along with all hope for a win)

2013 BWW Bowl vs. K-State (Morris starts because Gardner is hurt, Countess gets destroyed by Lockett)

I should never go to any more away games.

Yeah I figured it was about time I accomplished the "every game" feat. There's about 5-6 of my buddys that go to as many road games as we can. And yes this is my last year of student tickets sadly, haven't missed a home game since Rich Rod's first year. Always went to a lot before then too but not every one like I am able to now.
