Northern Virginia

Pros: Lots of things to do.

Cons: DC is 1st in the nation in psychopaths, and it isn't even close.

06/27/2018 - 3:47pm Last chance to say this.

Last chance to say this.

Thomas Mueller should play basketball at Duke.

06/20/2018 - 1:50pm Listening to him is like…

Listening to him is like taking a metal detector in a swamp.  Sure, there will be a time or two when you find a nugget, but most of the time you're just covered in slop, smell and question your life chocies.

06/07/2018 - 12:02pm I don't understand this…

I don't understand this computer stuff.  In google I kept getting the animated version of the Fab-5 picture above.  What worked for me was the combination of updating google and erasing my browser history if anyone is having the same issue.   ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

05/29/2018 - 9:46pm WLA memory

I still chuckle to this day the time WLA referred to Mangus's blog as Touch the boner.  Apologies, my humor can be adolescent.  (And I'm a regular TTB reader.)

05/28/2018 - 12:51pm QB 2018
RB 2018
FB 2016

QB 2018

RB 2018

FB 2016

TE/WR Even  I mix these b/c I don't know what to do with guys like Gentry and especially Eubanks.  Two facts to keep in mind.  Only 4 receiver-types had any significant yards in 2016.  Perry was third of the non tight ends.  In additon, the combination of Gentry and McKeon were comparable to Butt in terms of yards, receptions and TDs.

OL  2016, but if you could nearly guarantee competent tackles (just competent) I'd move to even or even 2018

DL 2016 because of depth

LBs 2018 BUT, holy cow look at Geddeon's production in 2016.  He was super underrated.  Still, he wasn't All American, which turns things.  This does assume a fairly high level of production by the 2018 Will.  McCray had his holes, but he also had good production and skills.

CBs 2018 out of strength going 1-4 including nickel CBs

Safeties 2016 .  2016 and 2017 production was similar other than a couple interceptions with 2016.  But, I think 2016 was better than 2017 in terms of holding down the big play.  I think here, though you could convince me with some natural improvements by Mettelus it could be even

K 2018 (hoping some of the inconsistencies are removed while the range remains)

p 2016

The other thing to keep in mind about 2018 is that there's a big difference b/n 2018 and 2016.  2016 was Don Brown's first year.  The 2018 crew grew up in his system.

05/27/2018 - 10:43pm Sorry I was a smart aleck

There are a ton of suburbs that I would just assume have good schools.  There are close in places (Brookline, Cambridge) and then further out, like Needham.  Pretty much like everyone else.  Costs, schools, commute.  All of it matters.  You'll hve to figure out your own balance.

I lived there for school a long time ago.  I liked the vibe, but yeah, it's insular.  They'll explain to you that it's called the hub because it's the hub of the universe.  And there's a strong sense of right (their sports teams) and wrong (everyone else).  If that's going to bug you then you'll have a problem.  A friend of mine from college lives there and hates it (still there as a divroced dad).  But, if you can roll with it, it's actually possible to enjoy it.

It's definitely and east coast place.  They don't drive like southerners, that's for sure.  It's a real city

Something else: Holy sh** it gets dark there early in the winter.  They're actually considering swithcing to Atlantic Time.

05/27/2018 - 4:41pm The Departed is on IFC right now.

Great movie.

05/25/2018 - 3:56pm You're right that if you're after the value added

then you have to control for starting position in order to judge that.  My guess---and it's only a guess--that when modellng fairly unusual events like becoming a billionaire, that the variation in things more diffuse like family income isn't going to have a lot of power to overturn the result.

05/07/2018 - 8:10pm I don't care what anyone says

Charles is my guy.

04/27/2018 - 6:52pm Hold my beer ..

Nah, just kidding.  I take my sports seriously; they're important to me, but there are more important things.

As for the discussion above, I've heard people say those things about not being an organ donor just in case.  I can imagine, dying going to heaven, and St. Peter saying, "Dude, why did you check that box on your license.  We were about ready to swoop in, but by the time we got there, Dr. Moneybux had already picked you cleann."  If that happened, I'd laugh.  "Oh well, joke's on me."

04/19/2018 - 10:50am TVM

Thomas, Lewis, fine, no opinion.

You other post below though gives me hope that now with more experience, along with giving our own QBs a different look in practice, that we can run some more complicated things in the secondary.  I love the mano-a-mano defense gerenally, but we're/it is not good at generating interceptions, so change ups and fear-of-God is a good thing.

I get more optimistic everyday, and with the sports trudge that's the next 4 months, it's what I need.

04/18/2018 - 5:24pm What's the questions on defense?

The RETURNING safeties on the 10th ranked S&P D?

Back up defensive ends?

Nickel?  Actually, this is a question I have.  Why not hill on the slot and then Watson or Thomas at CB?

04/17/2018 - 5:41pm Nice

Discovering a pocket of music I had previously ignored.

04/17/2018 - 4:55pm Fine example

That best selling is only weakly correlated with any good.

04/17/2018 - 2:01pm I don't understand Runyan = RT

If JBB is good enough to be your LT then his pass pro has to be good enough for RT

The one thing JBB was decent at last year was mashin', and correct me if I'm wrong, better than Runyan.  RT is your mashin' tackle, no?

So, maybe your thought is that Runyan can't play LT b/c his arms are too short.  But not too short to play RT?

I suppose there's a way to square this up, but it's too painful to think about.  I prefer to talk myself into thinking 3 guys for 2 spots isn't bad as you got a spare.

04/05/2018 - 2:43pm Wisconsin

I think they're going to be good.  They ended the season pretty well, even before the close MSU loss in the B1G tournament.

But, Happ is gone.

04/02/2018 - 1:55pm Google it…

Some pretty impressive performances, but take a moment to appreciate that Austin Carr is 8th on the list, despite playing 3 games!

    03/31/2018 - 10:05am I'm betting everything

    My equanimity

03/27/2018 - 3:44pm Where does Michigan rank on

Fullcourt under 5 seconds to go plays?  Hee-hee-hee.

    03/24/2018 - 11:38pm I don't think they gave up

I'll bet what happend is that they told the team a minute previously not to foul Duncan.  And in the heat of the moment his player couldn't adapt on the fly to figure out the right thing to do.  I think he was trying not to throw his player under the bus.  And actually, at first what he did was the politician I'll answer a different question, but Dana pressed him (her job).

    03/23/2018 - 6:19pm Holy f

Thanks for the thread.  Tuned in for the last couple minutes.  Crazy action, sham about Tech.

03/22/2018 - 10:09pm Even up by a ton I can be a whiny little brat

But, I don't recall a single complaint against the refs.  Even the reversal on the oob I thought was the right call in the end.

    03/18/2018 - 5:21pm Ha Ha Ha

    03/16/2018 - 4:58pm Correct me if I'm wrong

cause what do I know?  I'm old.  But, if his team had watched some games, and Tech in particular, wouldn't they probably be doing it .... wait for it ....  on their phones?

03/14/2018 - 9:33pm Go bold or go home

    UPenn over Kansas

    03/13/2018 - 9:44pm Just got home

    Wow, UCLA sucks.

    03/06/2018 - 3:44pm I hate change

Sure, expanding freedom and opportunities is ok, but stuff like this really grinds my gears.

    02/25/2018 - 9:18am I don't understand

Are they merely being accused of hearing someone offering them money?  I would think that's not a crime.  But, I'm assuming (correct me if wrong b/c I don't have a ton of time to read up) that the accusation is that he was PAID.  At which point, it really doens't matter if anyone ordered the surf n' turf.

So, wading thruogh the words, it would seem that Duke's investigation amounted to hearing the parents deny the charge and saying that's a wrap.  Haven't you people ever watched Law and Order?  Denials don't equal proof of innocence.  But, it's not like Duke's the first entity to be satisfied with a denial because that's what they want to believe.

01/09/2018 - 5:00pm My heart goes out to you Ace

The only thing I can offer is that I'm a big fan of self-help groups or communities.  You think you're getting support from them, but the magic and support happens when you think you're helping others.  It's weirdly selfish/self-sacrificing that makes not sense but works.

    12/25/2017 - 1:14pm Hug them all

It can turn quickly without warning.

    11/16/2017 - 4:25pm Wisconsin badger
    or taxidea

    Wisconsin badger

    or taxidea taxus

    Either way, road kill

    11/16/2017 - 4:17pm Thanks Chuck

That was useful.  I'm way too old for this shit.

11/14/2017 - 2:25pm OP should write headlines for fake news

    Great click baiter.

    11/14/2017 - 2:10pm I disagree on this

Ann Arbor should ignore the concerns of people who must come downtown, because they will find alternatives like Park and Ride if forced, ...

People have a way of turning "must come downtown" to "have the option to come downtown." It's a tricky balancing act. I have no idea where Ann Arbor is on the inflection point. But, in DC I can't wait to leave when our lease runs out due to commuting in the city, which they could do something to improve.

    11/13/2017 - 5:13pm Section CC

Row 7 and then going to the hockey game Saturday night.

    10/28/2017 - 10:00pm Meh

They'll probably won't go undefeated next week.  A bigger nightmare would be a bunch of 2 loss conference champs.

09/27/2017 - 2:30pm Sometimes you're just hanging out on the site

Killing time, reading the thread and suddenly your pick hits gold.

09/26/2017 - 12:25pm A few minutes into the press conference

The accused as toast.  Let's see what they have to offer in exchange for leniency.  The acting attorney for the Southern District is quoting from the wires.

    09/24/2017 - 12:55pm That's great

A funny part is the order that the play is presented.  First, flea flicker, then reverse, then tunnel screen.  As I still laugh, I'm trying to imagine the play.

09/24/2017 - 12:35pm The Onion has so many Michigan football references

I just assume that a great deal of their staff are fans, probalby graduates.  It was funny.

09/24/2017 - 9:59am Holly Rowe gave Harbaugh the business on this

by pointing out that he has four guys on the roster with the number 3.  He said, "When you're the head coach, you can do what you want."

Having your punter and kicker with the same number has the benefit that you don't worry about both of them showing up on the field at the same time.  That happens sometimes.

    09/24/2017 - 9:54am Watch the replay

Hurst blows up some poor dude in the shield.  I laughed.

    09/24/2017 - 9:40am If J Woods's name is Woods

Then we should call it Defense.

    09/23/2017 - 9:53pm can't have nice things

Iowa finally moving the ball and Whatley fumbles.

    09/23/2017 - 9:47pm Giesike (sp) not a great blocker

says Fowler.  I'd say he's a lover, not a fighter.  Also, he's totally useless tight to the line near the goal line.  Split him out or let him watch.  PSU with the FB to gou oup 8-7.

    09/23/2017 - 9:35pm Sparty NO

Fumble to blow the touchdown, but the band plays the fight song anyway.

    09/23/2017 - 9:22pm Man, the Big 12

Refuses to play defense.  Oklahoma with the wheel-route TD to gou up 35-31 with the 3rd almost over.

    09/23/2017 - 9:19pm Toe-heel?

    I did not know that.

09/23/2017 - 9:08pm Some impressive SEC East finals

    UMass 13

    Tennessee 17

    Louisiana Tech 16

    South Carolina 17

(South Carolina scored all 17 in the 4th)
