OT?: Jayru Campbell no longer an MSU commit
Blowing up all over Twitter.
Apparently, he has decommitted and is considering offers from Cincinnati, LSU and Miami (YTM).
No idea if this is sparty pulling his scholarship or not.
Michigan State did not pull the offer per a very reliable source, anyone saying otherwise or not citing Jayru directly, is lying.
now considering Miami (YTM), Cincy and LSU.
Not that it's as dirty of a program as it was when this happened, but didn't an assistant coach of theirs get busted for dealing drugs in the 80s?
Everybody in Miami was dealing drugs in the 1980s. Good thing the town had two cops in fashionable pastels with a white Testarossa. Also, do the 80s matter to a kid born in 1997?
It would both surprise me and not surprise me if he ended up at LSU. I don't think he really fits the systems at either Cincy* or Miami, but LSU could be an option. But how often does LSU seriously go after a quarterback who isn't at least moderately coveted by other SEC powers? Seems like it would be a reach on Miles's part.
I personally think he'll end up in the MAC.
*Cincy offered him anyway (according to 247) and he could be Munchie Legaux 2.0. Kiel's going to need an eventual successor and if Campbell were to develop enough over two years, it's possible he could be that guy.
He has some issues and needs to get away from poor influences.
Not sure Cincy is the best place for that
I think there's certainly some similarity. We don't know the particulars in the Lewan case, but one punch from a large athlete is very dangerous, ask Rudy T. Lewan and Campbell both have some jerky behavior on the field as well, difference is Lewan is 6 years older.
having some drunk and obnoxious fan come into your house and rub in a bitter rivalry loss is clearly the same as a student almost killing an unsuspecting security guard.
Do we not talk about the alleged Gibbons thing anymore?
that's the worst offense of all of them.
Dantonio will still take anyone who can contribute.
you went with thug? no overtones there s/
Eh, I doubt that "very reliable source". They got a good QB in Lewerke in the mean time...seems like they moved on months ago. Additionally, they can't comment on anything. Wouldn't surprise me for Campbell's sake they let him save some face by saying he decommitted.
Exactly. The writing was on the wall, and then messsage boards quite some time ago that Campbell would not be attending MSU even if he wanted to. The Lewerke committment seemed like it sealed the deal, but maybe it will be a blessing in disguise if the kid can find a good environment away from home. Best of luck to him
only after Les Miles has his players vote on it.
What's it like to be a jackass?
I'm not sure I believe that, but it probably is better for him to get away.
If they did pull the offer, it only took them 6 months to do so.
Considering Lewerke commited to them back in April and MSU can't say anything...it's very possible they decided to pull the offer months ago and in the meantime were still trying to help him get his crap together.
Why would this get downvoted? MSU, like Michigan can't comment on recruits. And as someone who despises Mark Dantonio as much as the next guy, kudos to them if they didn't yank the carpet from under the kid's feet when it would have probably been the easier thing to do.
Well, 247 says he visited CMU in April and received the Cincinnati offer just days ago.
FWIW, Ace crystal balled him going to CMU.
tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to grow and sell shrooms out of a dormitory.
MSU may not have pulled his scholarship but I wouldn't be surprised if they stopped recruiting him or suggested he start looking elsewhere.
"After he gets his act together I hope he is able to put his talents to good use and get an education just not in the Big Ten."
If he gets his act together then why should he be excluded from the Big Ten?
Campbell spoke with WXYZ in an exclusive interview...2:16 is the decommitment admission. Video link is here.
I actually just saw that on the morning news a few moments ago, and it did catch me a little offguard onnly because I assumed that in the absence of the offer actively being pulled, he was likely MSU bound - it seems reasonable to me that MSU may have stopped reciprocating the interest in all that happened though. That being said, you know what they say about making assumptions and it seems like Campbell is trying to make a clean break with the recent past and change the pace of his life, if the interview is any indication Probably not a bad move for him if he wants to have a fresh start.
...particulars, or backstory. I think that any University, including our Alma Mater. should do its very best to honor the acceptance of an offer. I also believe the student-athlete should do his/her best to live up to the expectations of said offer. It's unfortunate when the optimism of a future unrealized is destroyed by a breach of faith by any party involved.
Having stated the obvious, I wish I had a fuck lion.
Could have been one of those instances where they just stop calling and don't show any interest. Honor his commitment if he wants to come, but make it clear he's free to go somewhere else if he likes. I believe Michigan did that with a recruit a couple of years ago.
No school turns down character. Not having to worry about a kid wasting a spot in the class is a big deal even if you're Alabama.
As for turning away bad character, if a kid has bad downfield vision and lobs everything, AND he punches a security guard, it's easier to part ways.
