I was driving during part of the first half, the Wisconsin announcers were talking about how Teske was struggling with Happ. They also griped that he flopped to draw a foul, which was super-rich.

Almost invariably, when someone says Teske is struggling on defense in the post, Teske winds up being dominant over the course of the game.

If we could hit open 3s this would have been (more of) a blowout.

On the upside of the shooting: It’s pretty clear that Michigan has an extra defensive gear for these big games. Absolutely suffocating at times.

I wasn't watching either but I checked out the game thread. I was a bit surprised to check back at the end of the game and see that Teske and Matthews were our key contributors. They were the target of a lot of harsh criticism in the first half--lots of demands that one or both be benched. Now, it sounds like they did in fact struggle. But maybe people need to chill out a bit if a player is struggling? Players are going to have bad stretches, but good players are going to balance it out over time. /rant over

A lot of people say really dumb things in the open threads.

I chalk it up to getting caught up in the moment until the negativity becomes suffocating - then I'm out.

Teske was clearly playing to stay out of foul trouble in the first half; that cost us the game against Iowa. He was fantastic in the second half, and a fucking monster down the stretch!

Matthews should eat a sub while watching Muppets tonight. Teske can join him.

Actually I don't really care. They can all eat subs. Just those two should get premium sandwiches while the others eat meatball subs... or something.

Drove a stake through the heart of the vampire that is Wisconsin basketball.  Of course we couldn't buy an open 3 while they hit a bunch of contested shots, but we outworked them in the end. GO BLUE!

Was that Charles Matthews on the floor in the 2nd Half - because it looked like we had Michael Jordan donning the Maize n Blue!  I mean - goddamn!!!

Great game - big win!!!  Go Blue!

Happ is overrated. Teske is underrated.

It’s a good thing Matthews didn’t listen to me and focus on D and rebounds. Another Beilein masterpiece. He figures out the match-ups and takes advantage. Iggy struggles against Happ, OK, have Matthews abuse Flopsconsin’s unathletic wing defenders.

Is it wrong that I want Muppets for this game because I hate Wisconin basketball?

Happ is a good college player. Crazy how he can be so tough and not make a shot farther than 5 ft. From basket. Great with both hands and his footwork is solid for a big. Yes, he gets gobs of calls, but that isn’t his fault. Dude is a tough matchup. Teske is a great defender and got owned 1st half. Props to Teske for bouncing back and controlling 2nd half.

Observations on the game:

  • After the mess of a first 10 or so minutes, the officials were decent in the rest of the game I thought. Both teams got away with a lot which is why the score was in the 50s.
  • Happ getting his 3rd foul and sitting out most of the second half was huge. Wisconsin fans should be screaming about the auto-bench lasting way too long. He came back in late and didn't have another foul. Michigan never trailed in the second half.

Part of the reason Happ sat so long is that the game went like 4 or 5 minutes without a stoppage midway through the half, that stretch where we couldn’t pull away because Wisconsin kept making key shots.

Happ really had a hard time as the focal point of the offense once he came back in, too. Reuvers can (and did) hit from distance, he’s going to be a problem next year.
