|01/17/2019 - 9:36am||Um, we really can't afford…||
Um, we really can't afford to have anyone get injured. This team is not very deep right now.
I am hoping that, as in past years, some of the guys who start the season unreliable, like Brooks and Davis, will step up their game as the season goes on and they get more experience.
It wasn't THAT long ago (middle of last season) that we were nervous about Teske having to play significant minutes. With good coaching, guys improve as the season goes on.
|01/10/2019 - 10:14am||If you are solving your…||
If you are solving your problems with aggression, but your aggression is not effective, you still got problems.
|01/09/2019 - 1:00pm||Nick Saban on Auburn,
Nick Saban on Auburn,
Beating OSU needs to be a big priority. When you are in the same Big Ten East, we go nowhere if we don't. No Indy, no title, and certainly no Natty.
|01/09/2019 - 12:51pm||Hm. This is the same Haskins…||
Hm. This is the same Haskins that the pre-game analysis here suggested,
"Pressure Haskins and you're playing a terrible QB instead of a great one."
That's an overstatement but Haskins is a completely different QB under pressure. You can pile up a ton of numbers on completion percentage and yards when you are throwing short, with no pressure and are getting ridiculous YAC. Plus, look at his footwork and the way he winds up to throw, I'm not convinced that he is going to be the second coming of Tom Brady.
|01/08/2019 - 12:11pm||Because the guy had OSU ties…||
Because the guy had OSU ties from the get-go. We should not have hired the guy because he had OSU ties?
|01/08/2019 - 12:05pm||That's just it. Why wouldn…||
That's just it. Why wouldn't OSU people have been calling him a traitor when he first came to us?
|01/07/2019 - 1:04pm||The defensive award is named…||
The defensive award is named after Wayman Britt for a reason. A 6'2" forward who usually drew the opponent's top forward and almost always gave away a lot of height. He was amazing in how he could stay with guys and interfere with their positioning and their shots in spite of being several inches shorter.
Steve Grote was also an excellent defender on those teams. Yeah, I had season tickets in '75-'76 and, yeah, I'm old. Most fun Michigan team I have ever seen. Two JUCO transfers (Hubbard and Green) and out of nowhere we go to the championship game and lose to the last undefeated BB team, IU.
|01/03/2019 - 6:56am||What keeps us below that…||
What keeps us below that ceiling would appear to be OSU continuing to beat on us regularly, home and away. The thought of that sickens me.
|12/30/2018 - 11:04am||Agreed, JH brings in a lot…||
Agreed, JH brings in a lot of very talented guys, IMO, because, what with all the NFL coaches on the staff, he gets his guys into pro ball.
At some point, the talent pipeline dries up when kids realize that they are not winning big games. Why go somewhere where you will feel crushed at the end of the season (lose to OSU and then on a bowl)? Think the coaches that we are recruiting against aren't bringing that up every chance they get?
After a while, you are what your record says you are. And that's the case even when you have some very good talent on the team.
|12/17/2018 - 12:46pm||I'd think that he spoke to…||
I'd think that he spoke to SOMEONE who told him that now is the time to go. He just better hope that whoever told him to go knows what he is talking about. Good luck, kid.
|11/27/2018 - 3:37pm||I hate to be one that claims…||
I hate to be one that claims that this was a successful season, because, as this team improved, more was expected than the 9-3 or 10-2 that most people predicted initially. And it's HOW you arrive at 9-3 or 10-2 that matters. I know all that
That being said, the only way I can mitigate the pain is by saying that we expected to lose to OSU going into the season.
For me, that's easier to take than resigning myself to either me or the football program being consigned to Eternal Damnation. Yes, I know that bad things happen to even good people, and yes I know that we have been guilty of being arrogant and sometimes expecting too much. But I've seen far too many games over 40+ years of going to games where our hearts have been ripped out, far beyond anything remotely proportional to our faults.
I'm going to cope by saying that we expected to lose to them going into the season. You can't stop me. Cope however else you need to.
|11/24/2018 - 5:18pm||Help me. What exactly did…||
Help me. What exactly did Meyer do today that was so crazy innovative? Call quick-hitting crossing routes to get the ball out of Haskins hands fast? That's what they have done all year, quick passes and big YAC. It wasn't like they had a consistent running game against us until after we had imploded.
Our OL was a question mark going into the year. It improved a lot as the year went on but has not yet improved enough. The OSU front 7 was the best we faced all year and the OL didn't ge tit done.
The only thing I see that Meyer outcoaches us in is getting better, faster, more talented players and then getting them to point toward the game against us as meaning everything.
|11/21/2018 - 10:21am||"Furthermore, it is my…||
"Furthermore, it is my considered opinion that Ohio State should be fucked."
|11/21/2018 - 10:19am||It would be great if he had…||
It would be great if he had a better percentage than any other former Michigan coach, but that's a tall order, considering the number of games played against solid competition in the Big Ten East.
We have a 12 game schedule. If we go 10-2, with 2 Big Ten losses, we probably don't win the East but we go to a bowl. Win the bowl and we go 11-2. 11-2 is 84.6%, but that's not enough to jump Bo or Yost. Heck, 12-1 gets him 92.3%, which is more than Bo but less than Yost.
Those winning percentages are quite a testament to Bo and Yost.
|11/21/2018 - 9:37am||Brine is everything. My dear…||
Brine is everything. My dear, sainted mother has told me that she recalls that, as a kid back in the 1930's and 1940's, her mother always "soaked" poultry before cooking, usually in some heavily salted liquid.
Most people that don't like turkey have probably grown-up with the bone-dry, tasteless version that you mention. I have brined turkeys for years at Thanksgiving and yet my Dearly Beloved, who always tells me how my preparation is juicy and tasty, when asked whether she likes turkey, reflexively answers that she doesn't because it's always too dry.
|11/21/2018 - 9:15am||I thought the same thing…||
I thought the same thing earlier on. But at this point, later in the season, don't you think that the focus is on the game at hand? Besides, they can use the "screw that idiot for leaving, we're going to show the world we can do it without him" type of Dantonio disrespect meme as a motivator.
|11/21/2018 - 6:08am||Agreed. And, for me, one of…||
Agreed. And, for me, one of the things that I love about the Beilein era is watching players develop from year to year. We're not bringing in one-and-dones, so guys stick around and then eventually, gradually get better and better.
A kid might not be the best shooter, rebounder, passer, defender, floor general etc, when he gets here. But by the time, he's ready to leave, he's typically way better at almost all phases. Great coaching does that. Livers is going to improve in all areas, even more than he has.
|11/11/2018 - 8:23pm||He really went out of his…||
He really went out of his way to mention that we have RPO in the back pocket, even though we didn't use it much this week? Listening, Urban?
|11/11/2018 - 8:10pm||And that same Big Ten alumni…||
And that same Big Ten alumni base stretches south to the DC area. Heck, College Park, MD is 32 miles from downtown DC and is accessible from the DC Metro subway.
|11/10/2018 - 7:56am||"Well, I just looked at the…||
"Well, I just looked at the chart. The chart says to go for 2 when you are up 85-0, so I just followed the chart."

What's also nice is knowing that our backups are getting exposed to some of the things that are a bit deeper into the playbook.
|11/06/2018 - 6:43am||Well, all we can do is get…||
Well, all we can do is get Peters and Milton some snaps the next 2 weeks. It's very doable.
|11/04/2018 - 7:20pm||Don't forget, the Revenge…||
Don't forget, the Revenge Tour has another stop, in Columbus.
We have won some big games but we haven't won any titles... yet. Let's win the Big Ten and then let the chips fall.
|11/03/2018 - 10:03pm||He has never left. When he…||
He has never left. When he has the shovel, he buries the other team. He doesn't take the foot off the gas.
Given the chance, he will win with cruelty.
|11/03/2018 - 9:53pm||Agreed but I hope they limit…||
Agreed but I hope they limit the number of times that they call for the zone read the next 2 weeks, what with McCaffrey being out. Callit if they need it but they probably won't.
|11/03/2018 - 8:31am||You might be right as far as…||
You might be right as far as the difficulty of maintaining the emotional momentum. But IMO, two things help, A) the bye week that allows the team to decompress a bit and B) the "revenge tour" meme. Last year, we felt embarassed; this year, we are at home and are a far better team than last year.
I don't think we will come out flat. And Harbaugh is not one to hit the brake when he has someone down.
|11/03/2018 - 8:23am||I agree. PSU has enough…||
I agree. PSU has enough weapons that I can see them perhaps sustaining one drive against us and hitting one big play. If we can grind out 24 points against them, we win this
|11/02/2018 - 6:21am||Let's hope they defend it…||
Let's hope they defend it well this week because PSU is going to use it over and over with Hamler if they don't.
|11/02/2018 - 6:11am||I am not as pessimistic as…||
I am not as pessimistic as you, but I agree that if you are relying on open receivers who are thrown accurate passes to consistently drop the ball, that is a dangerous thing to rely on.
That being said, they are not going to be getting that wide open against us.
|11/02/2018 - 6:05am||If Devin Bush having a big…||
If Devin Bush having a big day is the key to winning, I like our chances.
|10/22/2018 - 2:45pm||Heh, get ready for 4th time…||
Heh, get ready for 4th time in 12 years, Captain Comb-over. Next year will only be different because we will beat them worse.
|10/22/2018 - 2:25pm||After decades of them…||
After decades of them complaining we don't take the rivalry seriously, now they piss and moan when we take it seriously?
|10/22/2018 - 8:52am||We worry about Rondale Moore…||
We worry about Rondale Moore in the unlikely event that we play them in Indy this year. Unlikely because I don't think Purdue gets there; Wisconsin should beat them..
Otherwise, we don't play Purdue until 2020, in AA.
|10/21/2018 - 12:05pm||I have no doubt that our…||
I have no doubt that our team could play that MSU team week after week all year long and never lose to them.
|10/21/2018 - 12:03pm||They wanted this to be a…||
They wanted this to be a rivalry so damn bad.
Now they are going to get it good and hard, year after year.
|10/20/2018 - 11:48pm||Someone started a thread…||
Someone started a thread along the lines of Meyer underachieving at OSU. Dude is sick of being outcoached week after week. 77-8 overall, 50-3 in Big Ten at OSU is underachieving, smh.
|10/20/2018 - 8:27pm||My thought was that one of…||
My thought was that one of the reasons that the OL was able to finish the game was because Pep called enough runs early to wear Sparty out. Our runnning plays weren't going for big yards early but they set up the rest of the game.
We won, we covered, scoreboard. I ain't complaining
|10/20/2018 - 8:08pm||As if those idiot Spartys…||
As if those idiot Spartys need something to get them more pissed at us. Hating us sustains them as it is
|10/19/2018 - 5:50am||You got that right. Piccata…||
You got that right. Piccata works with chicken and veal as well and would probably work with pork too.
|10/14/2018 - 7:33am||I agree with you about the…||
I agree with you about the necessity of keeping a few things in reserve. For me, the important thing to remember is that these are college kids, who have a lot to learn and to then learn to execute in a few year some of them in a few months. You make sure that you can execute the simpler things in your offense first before moving on to ask them to master more complicated things.
Look at that "diamond" formation that we have shown, with 4 receivers split one way and one on the other side. I am certain that there are a ton of things that can be done out of that formation, but, so far, we have yet to be very successful out of that formation. Perhaps once we can get that formation down to the point where it's reliable, we can move on to something else. Plus, just by showing MSU that formation and a few things that MIGHT happen out of it, that's more more thing for MSU to spend time preparing for AND one less other thing that we do that they can spend time preparing for.
|10/14/2018 - 7:15am||For me, Chryst's decision to…||
For me, Chryst's decision to punt on 4th and 2, down 21-7 at the M 42 yardline, with 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter was the most inexplicable. Even Dierdorf and Brandstetter were mystified. Just give the ball to Taylor. Did we have any TFL's on Taylor?
|10/14/2018 - 6:46am||Come on. This is Michigan,…||
Come on. This is Michigan, fer God's sakes, where we can get worried after beating a ranked opponent by four scores. /s
I agree with you. We should smoke the Sparties.
|10/12/2018 - 6:12am||You should not miss anything…||
You should not miss anything walking with the band, especially if you are on the east (Crisler) side of the stadium. The band plays the Victors in the parking lot on the east side of the stadium on the way in, which is always fun.
Once they get to the tunnel, you will see a set of steps that will take you up to the concourse. You go up the steps and you are in.
At Homecoming, the Alumni Marching Band marches in about 20 minutes ahead of the student band and plays a 4-5 song set on those steps. That's almost always worth seeing.
As for their schedules, I am pretty sure they are online.
|10/09/2018 - 6:10am||His only sure-fire way of…||
His only sure-fire way of baiting people to actually react and call is by insulting or trolling Michigan. Otherwise he doesn't get that many calls, especially from Sparty fans.
Even when Michigan is successful, he starts with "Michigan SHOULD HAVE won... but unless Michigan wins x, y, and z, their season is a failure."
Everything is either a success or a failure. Then again, that's the tried and true method of sports radio sucking in callers; set up a dichotomy and get callers to call in and argue.
|10/08/2018 - 2:41pm||I don't know why people…||
I don't know why people always say that you have to win a given, fixed number of games to be successful (OK, I get that for people like Valenti it's clickbait.) Until you watch the game and see how and why you won or lost, it's a waste of breath to try to accurately say whether you were "successful" or a "failure."

As long as we iron out the wrinkles in a win.
|09/18/2018 - 3:27pm||And it's a whole day…||
And it's a whole day committment, even if you don't tailgate. Traffic is a nightmare, parking is a PITA, concession prices are high and ticket prices (plus fees) are ridiculous. Then, if the weather is crappy, you get to sit there in the stadium, roasting in the sun or getting pelted with snow, ice or rain, while the commercials come one after the other. And you sit there.... and sit there.
I know I'm old but I went to non-televised games where we kicked off at 1:00 PM and were done a little before 3:30 PM. Between reviews and commercials, there's at least an additional hour tacked on now.
That extra hour gives you plenty of time to think about how comfy your sofa is, how big your home TV screen is and how nice it is to drink your favorite beer and to eat your favorite snacks.
That being said, I'm going this week anyway. I must be nuts.
|09/18/2018 - 3:14pm||JB almost never gives you…||
JB almost never gives you the formation, who is positioned where, what type of pass route was run, what type running play was it, etc. And that includes AFTER the play is over.
And Dierdorf never helps him. He likes to yammer about what a great effort so-and-so showed. Why, Dan? Tell us what happened!!
Plus JB's voice just annoys me. He talks like he is in a movie, trying to portray a gung-ho play-by-play guy. He's way too forced.
|09/14/2018 - 5:55am||Go Blue! Make the plays,…||
Go Blue! Make the plays, stomp SMU and nobody gets hurt.
