We used to go to Barcelona way back in the late 90s/early 2000s. I liked it a lot. I'm guessing a lot of other places from that era are no longer around because I haven't seen them mentioned--Handke's, the Refectory, Rigsby's.

Is North Market still a good around? Kind of akin to Reading Terminal Market in Philly. Multiple options for people with different tastes. It was also the original home of Jeni's (had a different name back then). It was almost just a one-woman operation back then. Humble beginnings and all that!

I was in Columbus in the early 2000s. Old Bag of Nails was a staple for us. I especially liked their fish and chips. Glad to hear it's still around!

I'm going to upvote this because I think it's just excellent sarcasm. At least I hope so.

But how soon is now???

(not even going to try to embed a Smiths video. Just pretend it's here.)

And I believe Mr. Saito just died as well.

/checks Google maps

Wow--that's a bit out there. But close to the Renaissance Faire! And I'm assuming Valley Fair, if that's still around?

Arboretum is a nice spot. Where in the Twin Cities are you?

06/14/2018 - 8:23am I grew up in Minneapolis, so…

I grew up in Minneapolis, so I could never say that St. Paul is better. But now that I am older I can definitely see the appeal of St. Paul. Really, though, I would say that comparing the two is tough. They are both great, and part of what makes the Twin Cities nice is that you have the two different city-centers so close together.

06/01/2018 - 10:20pm "Change is Gonna Come" gives

"Change is Gonna Come" gives me chills just thinking about it.

05/22/2018 - 9:08am You are just making it worse

You are just making it worse by "replying all"!

05/14/2018 - 11:58pm I'm liking it-- something

I'm liking it-- something about the dramatic shifts in tone. I like the video too --can't stop watching it.

05/12/2018 - 7:49pm I'd call it more of a summer

I'd call it more of a summer beer, but when the weather is nice Two Roads Persian Lime Gose is excellent (if you like something sour and tart). It's out of Connecticut, but might be available in Michigan.

05/12/2018 - 8:24am Ahh--that makes sense,

Ahh--that makes sense, otherwise it's a pretty churlish response to XTra's reasonable comment. Still, how about some general civility on the board? (I know, I know--it's the internet.)

Probably best to ignore the account that was created yesterday.

They made a special table for him. Keep in mind, this is at a basketball academy where presumably the kids are already pretty tall.

05/07/2018 - 9:45am Has anyone seen that kid from

Has anyone seen that kid from Romania who is currently playing basketball at some sort of academy in Ohio? Something this could be a serious issue for kids who are that big. If I had to guess, most schools will accomodate someone who is unusually tall, either 1) simply because they want to make things (reasonably) comfortable for students, and 2) I can imagine that schools would consider this to fall under health accomodations, the same way a student with asthma/allergies may be allowed to have a window A/C unit that is otherwise prohibited.

By the way, the basketball player from Romania seems to adapt pretty well to the challenges of being 7' 7".

05/06/2018 - 2:54pm Saw this in the Concord

Saw this in the Concord Monitor this morning--wondered if it was real.

John Stark isn't even in the highest division of NH schools. That's reserved for the "big boys"--you know, Nashua, Exeter, Keene, Merrimack, etc.

(Not implying anything about the kid. But I have to think it's pretty rare for John Stark to send a kid to a high-level DI school. Then again, Duncan Robinson is a NH kid too so who knows!)

05/04/2018 - 10:24pm I have a friend who went to U

I have a friend who went to U of C for business school. Very personable/social. And he retired at age 39.

05/04/2018 - 9:46am May Fourth is also the date

May Fourth is also the date of an important political demonstration that took place in China in 1919. Next year will be the hundredth anniversay--I imagine it will generate a fair amount of discussion/commentary. I celebrate every year by re-reading Lu Xun's "The True Story of Ah Q." (Not really, though it is worth reading.)

05/01/2018 - 2:32pm "[S]uperficially looks like

"[S]uperficially looks like an NFL quarterback."

I have a feeling it's safe to say that you are describing a white guy (if "Northwestern QB" and "Clayton" weren't enough of a hint).

Suggesting offensive futility--no points on the hat/no points on the field.

He made a very common mistake--lots of people don't realize that the correct word is "irrespectivelessly."

05/01/2018 - 10:17am Haha--I actually do pronounce

Haha--I actually do pronounce it that way occasionally as a joke. We're the epitome of dad jokes.

04/29/2018 - 11:14pm I'm guessing it was a joke.

I'm guessing it was a joke. Irregardlessly of whether he meant it that way, I'm definitely going to insert it into regular conversation to see how people react.

04/17/2018 - 11:03am In the movies showing this

In the movies showing this kind of moxy does often earn some grudging respect. Just another example of movies steering me in the wrong direction.

04/17/2018 - 10:58am 27-0 nothing at this moment

27-0 nothing at this moment and STILL underrated.

(Though would it be a raven? Shouldn't it be a passenger pigeon or some kind of falcon or something?)

04/13/2018 - 1:23pm Because saying it will be

Because saying it will be "reviewed cursorily" is not reassuring--and really awkward.

04/10/2018 - 6:23am 100% agree. If your whole

100% agree. If your whole shtick is "I'm old and have been around the block a few times," don't act like a 12-year-old and keep saying "I told you so!"

04/02/2018 - 11:39pm I don't understand this "not

I don't understand this "not showing up" thing. Sometimes you play a better team and your own shots don't fall. "Not showing up" makes it sound like some kind of lack of effort or lack of will. That's not what I saw tonight.

04/02/2018 - 8:21pm This is not a great piece of

This is not a great piece of sports writing--it's a great piece of writing, period.

04/02/2018 - 10:52am Sounds like a variation of

Sounds like a variation of Yeats in "The Second Coming":

the best lack all conviction,

are full of passionate intensity

Who else would make a Michigan "all-name" team? I've always liked Maceo Baston.

You're kind of a dick.

03/31/2018 - 7:54am I love that he went with

I love that he went with "iced cream" rather than ice cream. I'm similarly a fan of "popped corn." Sounds more oldy-timey and/or British.

This is indeed a good Friday.

03/26/2018 - 11:43am I've spent some time in

I've spent some time in Poughkeepsie. Strangely enough, from my experience this statement could be made in absolute seriousness or with total sarcasm.

03/21/2018 - 6:12am Wait, Hotel Putingrad got

Wait, Hotel Putingrad got sent to Bolivia? (Or in this case, Siberia?) Man, I guess no one is safe.

I'd guess it was punishment for the nerve gas thing in England.

Yeah, I saw that too. For a second I was thinking, "oh no--this is about to turn bad." Luckily Beilein kind of brushed it off and they went back to the celebrating.

I hope the day improves, XM. If not, put the video on a loop and just keep watching.

The only places I know are in Tobago--sorry.

03/18/2018 - 1:57pm I think there was actually a

I think there was actually a whole thread on the topic (link below), but at this point it's been pushed halfway down the second page (for those who can even get to the second page!) and it wasn't readily apparent from the title that it was about the clip of him consoling Davis. So probably not a bad idea to post it again.

Plus, I think everyone is still elated today and is enjoying all the extra threads about the game!

03/18/2018 - 12:07pm I was also thinking about

I was also thinking about "rhymes with Tom." But yes--just saying that it sounds like the middle part of his name would have been the best explanation. Point taken!

03/18/2018 - 11:52am I wasn't aware of this until

I wasn't aware of this until I watched the press conference last night. Poole was referring to him as "Ham," but pronounced more like "Hahm" or "Haam" (or imagine like the "Han" in "Han Solo," but with an "M" at the end).

03/17/2018 - 7:29am Uh, how about a small band of

Uh, how about a small band of high-schoolers taking down the Russian Army? That's gotta be pretty unlikely.

03/16/2018 - 6:53am I'm with you buddy, but it's

I'm with you buddy, but it's amazing how coming off a win makes it so much easier. If I had stayed up that late and we had ended up losing . . . woo boy would it be a miserable morning.

Everybody funny. Now you funny too.

Robinson once again solid on the post defense. His guy was getting pretty frustrated.

03/16/2018 - 1:29am Someone said this on the game

Someone said this on the game thread as well. Trombone player apparently. Please someone ask her not to do that again. This game was already an assault on my eyes-- didn't need the ears to be bleeding as well.

03/16/2018 - 1:11am The name-calling is not

The name-calling is not appropriate, but if you happen to know her could you please ask her to stop? That was terrible.
