If I remember correctly it wasn't just that he was #1--he was consensus #1 and his overall ranking was something like the second highest ever. Gucci Mane points out that he was "at or close to all big ten." I think that means that he didn't quite meet expectations. Of course, injuries played a roll, and maybe expectations should have been tempered--but I get evenyoubrutus' point.

Took longer to get the grill ready, but cook time was maybe just a touch longer. (Though I used quite a bit of extra charcoal as well.) Looking forward to doing the bird today. Have a good Thanksgiving!|
|11/21/2018 - 3:06pm||Ths is a good chance for me…||Ths is a good chance for me to get advice from the MGoCommunity. I'm planning in grilling a small (11 lbs) turkey tomorrow. (Hoping it will taste good plus save room in the oven.) Weather here in the beautiful Granite State is calling for temps in the 10s. Any idea how much will that affect cook time? I have to think when it is that cold the heat dissipates pretty rapidly. Grilling experts and those knowledgeable in thermodynamics--I'd love your thoughts! I use charcoal--a mix of briquettes and natural hardwood, fwiw. Thanks and happy Thanksgiving everyone!|

Not sure what it was about--maybe the ref gave him the ball too early? He returned it and then got it back again.|

And another thing: when I am on my iPad and I hit the thumbs up/thumbs down, I jump to the top of the page and I don't think the vote registers. To be fair, I haven't updated my operating system in forever, so it could be just me. Wondering if anyone else has that problem.

I find the 80/20 leads to a lot of splattering, especially if I am making a bunch and the oil starts to accumulate on the pan. (I know I should probably just wipe it occasionally, but I'm lazy and it's super hot and then I have oily paper towels to deal with.) But the paint scraper as spatula--that's brilliant!|

To see my own posts, I type "mgoblog.com" in the address bar and add the forward slash. Then I see a dropdown menu and my user page is one of the options. I guess we all have to find these little work-arounds.
Another frustrating issue: when you click on a comment that you've made in order to see the replies or the ongoing conversation, but it is more than 50 posts into a thread and you just end up on the first page of the thread, not the specific comment. To be fair, I think that was a problem with the old site as well, but still annoying.

|10/22/2018 - 4:08pm||Great write-up! A few not…||
Great write-up! A few not-very-insightful comments from me:
--I had a chance to see Hamilton in Boston recently and enjoyed it. But I don't love your analogy--does this mean that Michigan is going to be offed by a former mentor at some point in the future?
--I was also thinking about Bart and Lisa as the best illustration of what happened before the game. And I have two kids, so I'm familiar with that dynamic.
--Your analysis of the rivalry was great. I can't get too animated about what happened--they were spoiling for a confrontation, and our guys were happy to give it to them. And your larger point is a good one--of course it gets heated, and we have every reason to want to lord it over MSU. But at the end of the day it is a football rivalry, and we probably shouldn't get TOO worked up about it. I know the game was cathartic, but I've been a little surprised at exactly how exercised many commenters have been thus week. We're definitely letting the hate flow through us, maybe a bit too much.
Hope we can keep winning so the write-ups continue to be easy and enjoyable!

|10/16/2018 - 10:26am||And if I read the transcript…||
And if I read the transcript correctly she tried to clarify that her question about Mason wasn't really an injury one--she noted that he seemed to play less (or have a smaller role), and she wondered if that was game strategy or injury. I guess without that question she couldn't know if the topic was off limits or not. At that point Harbaugh said that he also didn't want to answer game-plan questions.
|10/16/2018 - 10:22am||Good lord that statement is…||
Good lord that statement is so stupid it boggles the mind. We could come up with a list of hundreds of important stories written by "sports journalists" over the years. And the general idea that "sports" occur in some sort of vacuum disconnected from economics, race, gender, law, etc. is crazy. Just look at the fact that today is the fiftieth anniversary of John Carlos and Tommie Smith at Mexico City. Yep, that was really just about a couple of guys who could run fast.
|10/16/2018 - 10:10am||I don't understand the…||
I don't understand the general hostility toward Chengelis on this thread. For one thing, it is her job to ask these questions. Obviously people read her stories and tweets based on her reporting, so the fan base is interested in these topics. And while coaches will often brush off these questions, sometimes they elicit useful or interesting information--someone mentioned below that Harbaugh did reveal something about play-calling duties.
And perhaps I'm reading too much into some of the comments, but it also seems like some people think that Harbaugh shouldn't have to go in front of the press and answer any pesky questions. I have a problem with that--we know that there is a major problem in college athletics with programs that are immune to oversight. Having reporters scrutinize a program is one check on potential abuses. In this case Chengelis is asking about injuries, which obviously is not part of any kind of systematic abuse in the program. But when we start to discount the role of these reporters and argue that the coach and the program shouldn't have to face tough questions I worry a little bit about the precedents we are creating. I know that's probably really alarmist, but it makes me reluctant to criticize a journalist for asking unpopular questions.

Yeah, I don't think that's in dispute--this is meant to refer to the upcoming game against Penn State. But FauxMo's point is that the marketing geniuses in Columbus perhaps shouldn't have created an image prominently featuring the word that many people have used to describe OSU's response to problems on their coaching staff.
And they had so many other options! They could have used a gif of their QB looking at one WR and then checking down to a secondary receiver with the caption "Look the Other Way."

Contemptible! That's a pretty strong word. I mean, I don't see this as inflicting some enormous cost on his team. It sounds like he's not really playing that much, so it's not like he's sinking their chances for success. I guess I don't have a problem with a kid looking out for his own interests, especially if it is not materially hurting someone else in any meaningful way.
ETA: closer read indicates that it's not a lack of playing time per se. Still doesn't change my opinion: kid is looking out for his own interests, which I think is entirely reasonable.

Oops--my bad. You can bring in unopened, sealed water bottles, but you can also bring in empty "sport" water bottles (the non-disposable kind). That's what we did. So actually multiple good options at Target Field.

|09/17/2018 - 8:55pm||Yep. I went to a game at…||
Yep. I went to a game at Target Field in Minneapolis earlier this year and the policy was that you could bring an empty water bottle and fill it at filling stations throughout the stadium. It was a hot day, so they also had some of those huge orange Gatorade water dispensers at various spots throughout the stadium. At Fenway we brought in sealed water bottles and then I filled them at drinking fountains. (Of course, being super run down--er, "quaint and historic"--means very few drinking fountains and apparently no modern filling stations.)
Absurd that they couldn't come up with a reasonable policy at Michigan Stadium.

Took me a couple of days, but I finally had a chance to read it today as well. Lots of good stuff about the season, but I especially liked this part: "just remember that you are talking about human beings who didn’t do anything wrong beyond not be who you wanted them to be." Those words should be included on the banner or whenever anyone wants to submit a comment.

We used to go to Barcelona way back in the late 90s/early 2000s. I liked it a lot. I'm guessing a lot of other places from that era are no longer around because I haven't seen them mentioned--Handke's, the Refectory, Rigsby's.
Is North Market still a good around? Kind of akin to Reading Terminal Market in Philly. Multiple options for people with different tastes. It was also the original home of Jeni's (had a different name back then). It was almost just a one-woman operation back then. Humble beginnings and all that!
