OT: Jalen Hurts to Oklahoma
And there it is.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:28 PM ^
that really hurts for bama fans.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:39 PM ^
Hurts more for Maryland and/or Miami
January 16th, 2019 at 1:40 PM ^
Some of them might be so upset they do something illegal, get thrown in Jalen need to call a lawyer.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:25 PM ^
He took a pretty long time to make this decision. I thought he would have made it....Sooner...
Thanks folks, I'm here all week...
January 16th, 2019 at 2:30 PM ^
For Oklahoma fans, it will.....
January 16th, 2019 at 1:29 PM ^
So OU is going to have 3 straight transfer QBs win the Heisman?
January 16th, 2019 at 1:31 PM ^
Problem is that Hurts can't throw as well as Murray or Mayfield. Unless Oklahoma's scheme is super simple to learn and Riley really is a crazy QB whisperer
January 16th, 2019 at 1:46 PM ^
That is exactly what I was thinking. Now if Tua were to go to oklahoma, that would be insane!
January 16th, 2019 at 2:39 PM ^
I'm all about the Hurts Express Train. Dude's a baller. He's gonna do well.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:57 PM ^
Well it’s obvious Riley can’t develop his own QB talent he has to develop other peoples recruits. What a loser.
January 16th, 2019 at 7:38 PM ^
Over the last 20 years Oklahoma has had a player in the heisman conversation more often than not and only 3 of those guys were better than Hurts (AP, Mayfield, Murray). Oklahoma will put up a ton of points and Hurts can use his legs to offset some of his passing. But make no mistake, Hurts is still a great passer in the college game. Not elite, but he’s definitely dangerous and he’s got a high football IQ. Lincoln will design a passing game that fits Hurts perfectly. There will be a drop off and Hurts most likely won’t win the heisman, but I bet he ends up in the top 5.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:29 PM ^
Looks like a crowded field for Heisman next year--just counting the quality QB's that return....
January 16th, 2019 at 1:46 PM ^
Mineral King isn't bothered!
January 16th, 2019 at 2:07 PM ^
He is busy getting his older brothers predictions for next year ready.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:37 PM ^
Not if Tua chokes in big games like he did this year.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:32 PM ^
Hurts is considered more limited as a passer. He can do it, of course, but there was a narrower frame of circumstances where he could succeed.
If there's an offense where he can learn to pass effectively and show some promise for the next level, Oklahoma is it; and Oklahoma can still use his running ability.
Higher pressure here, since he'll have both Tua and the previous officeholders to deal with, but it'll be interesting to watch.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:43 PM ^
Plus OU has some really talented WR. Remember the name, CeDe Lamb. Dude is a freakish stud.
January 18th, 2019 at 2:55 PM ^
Remember the name? He's already one of the top receivers in college football and has almost 2,000 receiving yds in 2 seasons. He's definitely a freakish stud though and probably has the best hands on the team.
With the guys they've just brought in (3 of top 10 WR recruits in country, plus top TE), along with a couple of returning 900+ yd rushers in Sermon and Brooks, they're going to take a lot of pressure of Hurts.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:32 PM ^
Is not OSU, so...good? All their eggs in the Justin Fields basket. They'd better hope he's can stay healthy all year.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:33 PM ^
And succeed in his eligibility waiver request.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:45 PM ^
I don't want that request to succeed. But what I'd like even more is for it to be a huge, noisy, public controversy that is embarrassing for Georgia. And if for Georgia, which is located in the pretty easy-going town of Athens, then also for the entire SEC.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:06 PM ^
I can’t help but think Georgia isn’t just going to play along and say, yep there is a racist culture here...
January 16th, 2019 at 2:45 PM ^
The thing is, by my reading of the rule, it doesn't have to be a "racist culture." I think the rule can be interpreted as allowing immediate eligibility in the face of egregarious behavior, even if it's a one time event. That is to say, the fact that the slur directed at Fields appears to be isolated may not prevent him from being eligible.
All that said, fuck OSU and I hope they never have a good QB again.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:03 PM ^
He stayed on the football for the full season. Its not like the incident in question happened the last week of the season.
January 17th, 2019 at 11:16 AM ^
Right. But that's my point. The literal language of the rule is pretty lose, so it's not like a player would need to run away in fear and never come back. There was a lot of discussion on the rule on this board within the last week. You should look the rule up because you'll see its not as strict as we (OSU-haters) wish it were.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:49 PM ^
They will get that waiver. Martell would not have transferred if he knew the waiver would not be granted.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:32 PM ^
Man, why did Fields hire a lawyer if Tathan Martell already knows the result!
January 16th, 2019 at 2:51 PM ^
I don't know. Ask him. It was a complete waste of money.
January 16th, 2019 at 4:22 PM ^
Yes glad he’s not going to OSU. Hoping Fields is not ruled eligible for next year
January 16th, 2019 at 1:32 PM ^
Thank you for not going to Columbus
January 16th, 2019 at 1:36 PM ^
Very well written, btw. You can tell he studied PR.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:37 PM ^
This is getting kind of stupid. I am pretty dug in as a college football fan so I will continue to watch it for the immediate future but this basically free-agency.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:41 PM ^
He graduated. The grad transfer rule, to me, is a great feature, a reward for academic success and a boon to people like Hurts who are good but supplanted by someone who is better, and other such situations.
The Fields transfer, if he is immediately eligible, is free agency. Hurts put in the work and has earned his chance somewhere else.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:43 PM ^
I should have read further. I did not know he was a grad transfer. I stand corrected as to Hurts.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:01 PM ^
Truth...
January 16th, 2019 at 3:52 PM ^
… Hurts.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:48 PM ^
Grad transfer which is completely reasonable and one that sat behind the guy who took his job for a full year.
I would compare this to Russell Wilson to Wisconsin from NC State.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:52 PM ^
Old man yells at cloud
January 16th, 2019 at 3:13 PM ^
It doesn't bother you when coaches do it. Just apply that to the players and you're all set.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:40 PM ^
How much fun would it be to watch Oklahoma play Alabama in the 1st round of the playoffs this Fall, before the winner faces Michigan in New Orleans?
January 16th, 2019 at 2:45 PM ^
I'll have what you're having :-)
January 16th, 2019 at 1:41 PM ^
Is this a grad transfer?
January 16th, 2019 at 1:45 PM ^
Yep - only eligible for one season.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:41 PM ^
And Riley is blocking their backup from Grad Transferring to WVU.
I understand the logic, but they argued for Baker to be elligible immediately for intraconference transferring as an undergrad.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:58 PM ^
I could be wrong, but I believe that the school is not able to block grad-transfers, such as this.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:30 PM ^
Intraconference they are
January 16th, 2019 at 3:22 PM ^
Not picking a side, just pointing out that Oklahoma to WVU would be an inter-conference transfer. Oklahoma knows it will play WVU next year...maybe twice. There is a slight difference.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:33 PM ^
I said something incorrect, and retracted it. Im a bad person
January 16th, 2019 at 5:11 PM ^
I know. I pointed that out. But these are the same people that argued for Baker Mayfield to be elligible immediately with an intraconference transfer as an undergrad
January 18th, 2019 at 3:01 PM ^
Baker was a slightly different case because he was a walk on and was not under scholarship with Texas Tech when he left.
