Can't blame him. We had a prime opportunity to showcase why he needed to come here, and we fell flat on our faces and let our biggest rival shove us around like ragdolls. He's also the hometown kid, and he would've never heard the end of it from his friends, family, school, the whole state, had he gone to Michigan.

I'm sure that played at least a part in his decision. But yeah, after 62-39, we made his choice very, very easy.

Actually wouldn't giving up 62 points be a good demonstration of WHY we need him? If the defense was lights out regardless of him being here or not then clearly we wouldn't need him. Obviously this isn't how recruiting works at all and is the reason the teams with the most talent keep getting the most talent. Though I do dream of a real life NCAA 14 Dynasty where the talent is almost equal at both the Ohio States and the Eastern Michigans of the world. *Sigh*, a boy can dream

Seems like a good kid and he may be a project but he's a heck of a project to have. Bummed he's going to osu but this seemed inevitable to me for as long as I've known about him.

Hill returning to the fold definitely softened the blow.

Last month my OSU buddy said Zach Harrison is no Rashan Gary and is not even close to being as good as Rashan Gary, so with that being said, I will take his word for it that Zach is not that good.

He just tooled UM and PSU.  Never was leaning either way.  And what was the b.s. about "just going to post on twitter" ... instead he has a live stream from his high school gym with 20k people watching the stream to the fanfare of the hometown hero.  My god, tooled by an 18 year old.

Ryan Day will not continue to attract top level recruits at the rate Urban Meyer did. I could be wrong, but i think a lot of the out-of-state kids from the south were attracted to Meyer, not tsio

Correct.  Elite 5 stars spurned the SEC / ACC / B12 and came north from FL, TX, CA, the DMV to play for Urban Meyer, not Ohio State.

Ryan Day, like Tressel, will keep getting top OH kids like Harrison.  There is no question.

What he won't do, unlike Meyer, is just pull kid after kid like Battle out of the south at will.  Those days are done.

Well, unless he wins. I think it's dumb to expect recruits from outside the footprint to flock to OSU like they did under Meyer because Day hasn't proven anything yet. If Day uses Meyer's infrastructure to win games and make the playoffs one of the next two years, before the Meyer recruits graduate, the machine will keep operating. If Day goes 9-3 two straight years, OSU will be at a cross roads.

Recruits didn't flock anywhere until Urban Meyer was Urban Meyer. If Ryan Day wins games, he'll become Ryan Day.

Good post John, I agree. There’s no doubt recruiting will be different. They will no longer get the elite recruits who were drawn to Meyer and wanted to play for a legend. With that, they also will likely deal with a lot less flipping at the last moment, as I expect classes to be filled with more kids who are drawn to the school, and I expect more Ohio flavor as well. In time, if Day starts to make a name for himself, then I can see a more National approach.  They will still always bring in great classes, but expecting top 2-3 every year is asking a ton

While I hope that is true but that is naive of us to assume that kids in the south wouldn't want to head north now. If anything I'm concerned they WILL, Day's offense and his NFL experience makes me nervous kids will want to head that way.  From everything I've read UM gave a LOT of control on the offense (more so than usual) to Day and look the numbers they produced.  Stay vigilant in your mind, don't assume anything.

Said it before and will say it again.  The one that would of hurt if we missed on was Dax Hill.  Harrison may be a great one.  Hill will be a great one and a position of greater need than speed rusher. Take Dax Hill 10 out of 10 times over: Crouch and Harrison.

Without even having to look up the date of the game, I'm almost certain you joined the blog after OSU beat a Brady Hoke team quarterbacked by a guy with a broken leg by 2 points in order to troll. Evaluate your life, bud, is this really the best use of your time?

Not being snarky, but I think Harrison would be a freakishly good TE.  I think it remains to be seen if he can develop on DL.  No sour grapes here.  Wish Harrison went Blue, but Dax Hill will be taking a pick six back next year in the Big House to put Michigan up 28 pts with 2 minutes to play.  Meanwhile on the sidelines, Day is wondering if he can survive a 9-3 season and the first embarrassing Michigan loss in many years.

Bummer. If one game changed his mind then he probably wasn't as strong to UM as some had thought. It's weird that Urban's departure may have sealed the deal for him to OSU. Given a choice of the two, I'd take Urban leaving as the bigger upside for UM.
